We killed Essendon but if we don't fix up our 3rd quaters we will lose more games then we win.

Thoughts?

we'd be up there for most qtrs won in the league
problems is clubs kick 6-10 on us in the 3rd :(
not helping the cause

The four points are great! Yes, we took the pedal off in the third and the bombers did up their tempo, but we managed to maintain control and kept calm.

We can't lose sight of the fact that we're still building and I think if we managed another four - six wins for the season it would be a massive improvement.

The list is still really young but gaining experience with each game and the addition of Cotchin adds another terrific element, mixed with Foley, Lids, the old boy - Richo and the other boys working hard: Thursfield (toughest job every week), White, Mcmahon, Edwards and not forgetting Newman and King.

With Browny showing good from and Riewoldt progressing, the times ahead are exciting.

Massive game next week against the Swans. It's an opportunity for the boys to push them hard and doing this for four quarters "could" produce another win.

So far this year we have the following records in quarters:
First - Won 3 Drawn 1 Lost 5 Points for - 219 Against - 237
Second - Won 4 Drawn 1 Lost 4 Points for - 234 Against - 215
Third - Won 5 Lost 4 Points for - 225 Against 270
Fourth - Won 5 Lost 4 Points for - 242 Against - 196
Overall - Won 17 Drawn 2 Lost 17

Last night 6 goals to 2, Cats 7 goals to 1, Roos 7 goals to 3 & Saints 6 goals to 4 are the only 4 teams who have beaten us in the 3rd quarter. In each of those games we came out after half time and dropped our game about 10% and that is what allowed these teams to get away. Unlike last year though we are finishing off games better than we start them and that is definitely a good sign for the future. Now all Wallace has to do is get the side to start games off well and we'll be in much better position heading into the breaks so that if teams get a run on it doesn't extend the lead they already have but rather allows them to close the lead we have.

A good win but NOTHING. Stage 2 of where we are hopefully going means we win when we are expected to. Richmond sides not so long ago would have caved in the 3rd and final quarters and been overrun. We didnt, we found something and got a win in the proportions expected.

Good win but............. if we played like that against any other side (probably including Melbourne at the moment) we'd get beat !

Hope it was just a case of the opposition dragging us down to their level.

If we were a bit more polished we would have been up by 12 goals at half time. The amount of times we had them on the ropes but couldn't convert was really the frustrating part. How many times have we been on the ropes and the better sides have smashed us? It must be worked on.

Kinda IITB. Not so much worked on as learning how to win, especially when you are favourites. Despite the crap 3rd quarter I was not disappointed with Sat night because they still won and won well. Might not have been the case not so long ago. Success breeds success so with every additional win the killer instinct grows. If you look at the great sides it sometimes seemed harder for them to lose than to win. We are learning how not to be losers.

The thing is, after Essendons insipid first half they were always going to come out and challenge us IMO. I agree with IITB though, we probably missed 4 easy shots and a couple of half chances that could have made it an 80+ point lead at half time.

We failed to adapt to the slippery conditions. After half time the ground got dewy. Essendon played more direct. We, on the other hand, were still trying to overuse the ball when it didn't suit.

With that said, it suited Essendon better than us.

The Tigers are going to have to be more adaptable if they are going to beat Sydney who have about five different playing styles according to the conditions, opposition, tempo of game etc.

Careful IITB, you'll be labelled as a negative poster if you keep that sort of posting up. Don't you know we're all supposed to be just happy to have won.

I wouldn't even call it a good win.

A token win against a team who essentially donated it to us - yet we still managed to have a big second half fade out and give our supporters a real scare.

In saying that though, we're looking a lot more promising.

I'm looking forward to the day we can run out these games, and crush inferior sides.
