Goodbye to a great club President

A good man, gone too soon. R.I.P.

Achieved a lot at the club, and very under-rated as a president. Was in charge when we recruited Purser, Sewell, Royal, Foster, Hardie, Williams...

(Contrary to media reports, he was president of the Footscray Football Club, not the Western Bulldogs.)

I am genuinely saddened to read this news. Dr Capes brought us out of the wilderness in the 80s. I will always be grateful for his leadership in helping to get us to the PF in 1985. What an exciting year that was. Respect.

RIP and thank you for a job well done.

As a child I used to go to another doctor at the Footscray Clinic where Dr Capes practiced. As he was President of the Bulldogs I wanted to change doctors. I can still remember my mother saying " never go to a doctor who smokes like a chimney". He may have smoked a bit but I guess he was a very fine doctor and a very very good president for our club.
