In Perth today a bag snatcher who tried to take a bag from a 73 year old woman is on life support after a passer bye stepped in to protect the elderly woman & apprehend the creep in his efforts to nab him the creep got badly injured & if he survives they say he might never recover mentally tough luck I say anyone who preys on the elderly deserve what they get the only down side is that the good samaritan might be charged for assault.

What do you think I think the guy deserves a medal not punishment people who prey on the elderly or kids dont deserve to live.

That is disgraceful if he was charged.I still can't get over that little **** a few months back who won compensation for being assaulted while breaking into a pub.His mother also got compo for her suffering.

and you wonder why some people refuse to help those in need.

If I saw a crime happening, I'd never get involved. The legal system views good samaritans as suckers who deserve to be sued and charged.

Liekwise, still can't get over the little reservoir twat who tried to steal some dudes phone but is now crying poor with his mother coz the guy caught him and tortured him and HA SUFFER is now partially blind...GOOD. If i ever find out who stole all my ***** i would cut his balls off and cook them and poke his eyes out with my long nails! :D

They should have beat him to death and hidden the body.

Depending on how badly he pummeled the guy, prevents me from making a judgement.

If the guy jumped out of his car and absolutely belted this guy for a few minutes, then that is going over board, but if he just gave him one or two knocks and he fell to the ground, then the citizen shouldn't be charged.

Even though it's good that he stepped in, if he was sitting there for a few minutes pummeling the crap out of the criminal, that would have been going overboard.

As someone who still has an elderly person very near and dear within the hearts of our family (Jen's grandmother), I think that it's deplorable to see an elderly person attacked like that-- and even worse, when someone is doing the right thing in a "good samaritan" action deserves to be honoured as a hero for their actions, but isn't held up to that standard due to other circumstances.

I know this is bound to open another can of worms on the whole "victim's rights" debate, but the person who attempted to commit the crime in the first place, he lost all rights he had when he tried to snatch the old woman's purse.

It's incidents like these that make people reluctant to want to get involved... you know the ones, where people just stand around dumbfounded. Blame the ambulance-chasing lawyers, I say...

Cheers,
William

In the West Australian today they said all he did was put the guy in a headlock & he became unconcious wasnt there a wrestler who used to do a sleeper hold sounds like what this guy did must have cut off supply of oxygen to his brain to cause possible brain damage. Too bloody bad if he gets brain damage both the elderly woman & her husband were injured by this creep.

I think that kid learn't the hard way not to steal, but wasn't he also known to his victim ?

There was probably more to that story than mentioned publicly.

There is a difference between taking immediate action to stop the offender than belting the crap out of him.

Well this guy didnt belt the crap out of him just put him in a headlock to restrain him but the guy blacked out I have absolutely no sympathy for the creep even if he dies he is very lucky the elderly couple didnt have a heart attack & die from being attacked even if the creep got the crap beaten out of him he deserved it the minute he attacked a defenseless old couple.

Yes there is a difference, but is one of them wrong?
In that situation the offender desrves to have the absolute living daylights kicked out of him. Maybe now the bloke will probably end up a vegetable and think "Damn, trying to break the law and prey on the elderly wasn't such a good idea after all"

Maybe if more criminals were caught and had the crap belted out of them by police / good samaritans they'll think twice before trying to break the law.

Its about time these people were bought to justice, not just a slap on thw rist by the courts but a real PAINFUL sort of justice.

I don't necessairily disagree, but this is almost mob mentality. People taking the law into their own hands can't be good

Fair call,
I don't condone vigilante antics but in the situation where someone just happens to be there to help the victim as was thse in WA., well then I would suggest that it is open season on the crooks head.

So you are saying that the guy that stopped the attacker was in the wrong he should have just stood back & watched to elderly people beaten & robbed how would you feel if you were being atacked & people just stood there & watched get real.

Did I say that he should've stood back?
Did I even say I necessairily disagreed?
No.

I am saying that vigilante justice is not the solution because innocent people are going to get hurt. From all reports, the man who attacked the elderly woman was guilty and he deserved punishment, but did the attacker go too far?
Maybe he should be allowed to rough him up a bit, but a headlock? I would like to know the full story first

Exactly. A fine or 6 months in jail aint gonna do jack s**t for these people. Get some big guys to break their ribs and put em in hospital so they have to eat thru a straw for 6 months and then see how they feel about doing things like that.

If all the guy did was put him in a headlock and the moron passed out then GOOD!! I hope he ends up unable to do lifes simple things by himself ever again.

I would not consider a headlock to be over-zealous......

Choking someone out is really just a means of making sure they are no longer a threat at that point in time. Had the person who stepped in clubbed the bloke to death with a baseball bat... that is going to far, but I would imagine that he felt he had to take this bloke down to not only help the elderly woman but also to defend himself.

Agreed on the point that innocent people get hurt when they try to take the law into their own hands, but obviously these things will happen every now and then and this bloke the "good samaritan" should not be punished, but praised for his bravery.

No, he should not be punished...
Our legal system is beyond a joke sometimes! Same with America's.

In school a few years ago, I wrote an essay about cigarette manufacturers being sued by people with lung cancer. As a footnote I (almost jokingly) predicted that obese people would start suing McDonalds. I was sadly right.
