for all you sooky lalas blaming the umpire AGAIN...Gourdis pushed the umpire away in anger which in anyones book has been an offence for many many years.

Dumb and stupid of him and deserves the sentence.

the carry on here by some of you is child like but then again this is big footy.

show me the other players that copped 5 weeks for something similar and you might have a point...i repeat, shaw got 1 week for grabbing the umpire to complain about a decision...in front of a much larger audience than gourdis

5 weeks is over the top

Hey there Richmondions.

I played juniors with Dave from about 6 yrs old until 16s (as his captain ;).
I just noticed the suspension on AFL.com then!

It doesn't surprise me that he has blown up like this to tell you the truth. If things weren't going his way he would often get pissed off and argue with the umps...I can't remember if he ever touched one though.

Big disappointment for Dave, was hoping he would start to get more consistancy....

no question he was out of order, but
5 wks a bit harsh and
he was getting a shocking run of decisions, and this one was actually given to him except ump was letting it go to Mooney despite alleging he called it FOR Goo. Ought be able to keep his temper, but I cannae throw stones here!

Goo? lol.. Never heard that one.

I agree whole-heartedly that it's bullshit, but playing in the big leagues you have to know what the consequences can be. Should just try not to let your temper get the best of you (which can be hard in circumstances like this!).

5 weeks isnt over the top. He pushed the umpire in anger. Nostrils flaring. Eyes aghast. He was livid and pushed the umpire off the mark. This is totally unacceptable in every way and always has been, even before you and i were born.

Ask yourself "did he do something that is wrong not only that, universally wrong across any sport?" if the answer is yes then IMO he deserves whatever sentence comes to him.

Shaw recieved 1 week, he recieved 5, Williams recieved 9! Tough t***ies!

He stuffed up, it really is that simple.

showing a bit of vim, I like it!
Hit the track for a few weeks, do a bit of kickboxing for the aggression and put him in r 24 to have a look at
- might just want to keep him seeing as he has never had an extended run (has he even played consecutive games? = no) in the 1s whilst often being in the best at the burgers.

Thought he was to be our great full forward
or full back
or swingman
not suprised he is letting off steam
(and did read he got stiffed bad by umps at Geelong game)
will spew if he gets cut, without having really seen him - he is 22?

Yeah, the rest of the comp will be shaking in their boots now, at the thought of getting the bird from the Goo..;)

5 weeks for slightly touching an umpire unintentionally

what a joke

It was intentional

watched the game on Iview....this particular umpire was being criticized constantly by the commentators they even used the word ' pedantic' to describe him .... he made incorrect decisions all day against both sides..... he gave away a double 50 against Coburg ???????...... the player gets punished...does the umpire get reprimanded for doing an absolute crap job.

The ump that Gourdis bumped wasn't the one the ABC commentators were bagging. That ump was the shaved-headed fool who thought he was the VFL version of Ray Chamberlain.

he gave away a double 50 against Coburg ???????

Nah, the double 50 was against Mooney. Most of the game Geelong were employing two players on the mark...one in the traditional position, and the second one was at a 90 degree angle corridor side of the player with the ball. The first 50 was, I assume, because the umpire thought Mooney was standing too close to the player with the ball, and the second 50 was after Moons simply asked what the first 50 was for (you could hear him say "What was that for?" in the ump's microphone). Talk about pedantic.

I agree the umpiring was shocking in that game for both sides, and although it looked like Gourdis deliberately bumped the umpire, I thought 5 weeks was too harsh a penalty.

On a side note, I wonder if the Geelong player who ran into the umpire who was backing into his path in the backline got cited for making contact with an umpire. Wouldn't surprise me if he did.

I think that the Goo needs at least another season as I think he is just starting to mature as a player despite what he's been suspended for.

time - 2.33.50

He touched the umpire as he was going to stand the mark, don't quite see it in footage, nice slow mo of the bird though, pretty funny really, like a little kids reaction.
Agree. I would have liked to see him get 4-6 games on the trot and see if he could adapt to AFL and show something. Same with Post. They're just not getting the chance. Others are playing really poorly but remaining in the 22. I don't get it.

I might be 100% wrong but maybe they've decided to develop certain blokes in the reserves because playing them out of their depth in the seniors will stunt their development. This happened to Ablett, Chapman and co when they won the VFL GF. Hardwick might be rightfully thinking a gently gently approach is better for Gourdis and Post. Neither has ever aquited themselves to the pace of AFL as Grimes and Batchelor did.
