It is just an idea to counteract the otherwise ingrained advantage MCG tenant clubs have. I'm not advocating the Grand Final go to another ground and reduce the atmosphere.

1998, 2002, 2003, 2012 are the only years a non-MCG tenant won a premiership against a club where the MCG is their primary home ground.

Keep tweaking those stats to fine tune the injustice...

Brilliant idea. 100% behind it. Players may be confused by the difference in how much space there is on the wings so the areas would need painting for the GF but very much a fair idea.

Unless of course all the melbourne clubs are happy for the mcg not to host the grand final and the top ranked side to get to play on their states largest ground if from sa/wa/nsw or victoria and if a team is from queensland or tassie or whatever in the future they can nominate the ground as long as the ground has a minimum capacity of that of adelaide oval. Take away all the mcc seats and afl member seats and you'll find the adelaide oval, the perth stadium and stadium australia are all well and truly big enough to host it.
You realise Grand Final Day corporate packages are available for purchase 364 days in advance????
The Grand Final will NEVER be at a venue other than the MCG.

(1991 being the exception, and widely acknowledged as a mistake)

You seemed to be quite aggravated by the suggestion. This idea does not advocate the grand final being anywhere but the MCG.

Good thing nobody uses Waverley as a home ground anymore or else the capacity of the MCG would need to be reduced to 50K for the Grand Final.

If it wasn't for your home ground you would barely make the 8...

Some inequities are are more unequal than others. BOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo

I demand we get a percentage multiplier to compensate for only playing under a roof once a year.
Saying you arent the sharpest tool in the shed, is so redundant as to defy description isnt it.

What do we do if a side gets the wind on game day more than the other ??
Eg 2012 the wind swung three times allowing Swans an advantage ( they had it 3 times )
Completely un fair .

At tge end of the day you get to play grand finals at your home ground. Whether you earn it or not.

This seeks to even up that inequity - not fully - but just a little bit.

and at the end of the day, you're more likely to get into the grand final due to your home ground advantage.

As a case study of the importance of ground dimensions, look at the new Perth stadium...They had the option of making it MCG sized, even looked at it, but in the end decided that the H&A advantage of being different mattered more.

Simple dasher.

I propose that the higher finishing team for the H&A season have turbofans set up at one end of ground so that they're always kicking with the wind.

Take a richmond supporter to treat getting into a granny as a win.

We have slightly higher standards - and in all honesty more spoiled fans - getting into a granny really isnt considered too much of an achievement.

Does it have to be your home ground or can you pick anywhere ?

Glenferrie dimensions?

Actually, that could work...Punt road oval is Docklands size (they literally couldn't make it MCG sized), so against another MCG tenant, Richmond could choose that instead (Yes, I know, Richmond in GF jokes...).

As a far simpler and more practical solution (moving the goal posts really isn't all that easy after all), what about a FEW extra seats for away team supporters? Instead of 15K per team, make it 16/14 or something.

Then maybe you should have built your new ground with that in mind....Instead the powers that be in Perth decided that getting there was a higher priority.

You can talk big all you like, but the evidence of their real priorities is right there in Burswood.

If they did this when the mcg tenant next one while as the away team the next claim would be it's not the ground dimensions but the conditions unique to the MCG that are an unfair advantage.

The proposal would then be that the MCG should be turned into a completely enclosed environment with its own controllable weather climate so the higher placed team could pick the humitidy, wind, and temperature to best suit them on top of the dimensions.

so painting lines is out of the question?

Yep but it does sound like just dumb enough an overreaction for the AFL to do so Cross your fingers the Hawks win four in a row against an interstate team
