My view on how the GF will go down. I am not biased to either side but will be hoping the Cats win.

This will be closer than some suspect. The Cats are the stronger side on paper and have a few big names in from last time they played. Port seem to be a young inexperienced side but they played in a flag only a few years ago & still have 10/11 players from that side. The pressure will be on Geelong all week and a good start is vital to them to settle the nerves. The Cats will hope to control the ball and capitalise on oppurtunities so early so they can try & blow Port out of the water in the 2nd & 3rd quarters. The longer Port is in the game the more their confidence will grow & will thrive on having even a small sniff at 3 quarter time. The Cats had a tough intense game last week as opposed to the Power. The Pies have done the Cats a big favour here as they know what intensity they need to be at to win this final. Port may take time to adjust which could be fatal.

Match up wise the Cats will dominate the Port forwards with unpredictable Motlop the main headache. The Cats will get a lot of drive from the back line with Milburn & Co as per usual.

Port backs will do a reasonable job on the Cats forwards, wouldnt expect Mooney to have much impact with Steve Johnson & Chapman the keys they must fire & not let the ball come out easily. This is Ports big weapon as we know the Cats will get enough of the ball even with the impressive stoppers of Cassissi & K Cornes. If the Cats cannot capitalise on their oppurtunities & lock the ball in up forward they will get cut to shreds by the pace, run & linking of Port. The Cats will be hurt much more here than the Pies managed on Friday. This is where Port can win the game.

Midfield will be in favour of the Cats but they must be able to use those extra possessions something they did not do last week as they were all under pressure & forced wide. Ports mids can be very damaging going the other way and will make Ablett, Bartel etc have to watch the defensive sides of their game. The rucks will break even, no easy touches for Ottens against Lade this week.

Thompson was easily outcoached last week & will hit another excellent coach in Williams this week. He will have plenty of tricks up his sleeve & Thompson will need to be ready to change game plans if Plan A (worked all year) is failing. Port may surprise by going small up forward leaving Harley and Scarlett out of their comfort zone. They will want to deny Scarlett a goal square match up with Tredrea (as he would pants him). Chornes, Ebert, Motlop, Pearce forward setup would cause massive headaches if the ball was being rebounded quickly off half back.

My Tip: Cats by 22

The Norm Smith Tip: Chapman

Re: A Non biased Grand Final Preview

that's a fair assessment. I am in no way confident that we can blow port out of the water.

We really need to make our inside 50 dominance count. This means that players like N.Ablett needs to hold his marks and bob up for 1-2 and other players like Byrnes, Wojak, Corey need to be more accurate in front of goal or going into 50 then they were last friday.

The Burgoune brothers will once agin be a huge headache and Ottens and Blake/King will need to not allow easy set play goals from boundary throw ins within ther 50. This happened twice the last time we met with Lade tapping down to Sean Burgoune I think it was.

I don't think it matters cause Dom won't go to Ablett

Cornes to Ablett, in an attempts to show Gaz has no defensive game will push forward and try to kick a few

Cassisi to 'shut down' Jimmy, I think was going to be the match up in Round 21 but cause he pulled out with the appendix they changed it up

Dom has totally erased better players than young Gary before. :thumbsu:
Yeah but Gary missed out on the Brownlow, will be looking to prove the umps wrong. I suspect he will come out and show his real class on Saturday.

Dom isn't up to that standard.

Ablett is not going to follow Cornes forward though if Cornes goes forward Mackie or Enright will pick him up which leaves Chapman or Johnson to push up form the Half forward into the centre.

Wrong.

Kornes on Bartel.

"Is Dom is Good" on Yablett.

If we go by the 2004 GF, Yablett might get some ball, but Bartel is in for a tough day. Though I think Dom has improved since then

2004 GF was

Kornes on Black: Black 15 posessions (2003 GF, Black 39 posessions).

Dom on Lappin: Lappin had about 25.

Seems as though lots of people expect us to lose this game, gives our boys a point to prove.

Re: A Non biased Grand Final Preview

Okay. People have said who is going to take our players, but who will take Port's players. I think that Ling will take Chad Cornes or one of the Burgoynes. We also have Rooke and Byrnes to do jobs on people. Everyone says that in ROund 21, we didn't have Selwood, Ling or Bartel, but we also didn't have Max Rooke either, and he shouldn't be underestimated. His toughness will be needed in the Grand Final.

I think that playing King will give us an extra advantage. I know that it will be close, but Port only beat us by five points last time. If our midfield get on top, then we will win. If we play like last week, we could lose, but if we play like most weeks, Port won't have a chance.

For me, Ling to Peter Burgoyne, Rooke to Chad Cornes, Kane will go to Bartel, Cassisi to Ablett, and Joel Corey will run unchecked and have a blinder. :thumbsu:

Re: A Non biased Grand Final Preview

rooke vs c cornes would be an awesome battle. they'd go at it all day.
Personally I think Rooke is a touch over rated. A lot of talk about how tough he is etc but didnt impress much on Friday night. He made a few mistakes and didnt go at it hard enough for mine (except when Maxwell stopped him dead). Cornes would be way to good for Rooke, I don't think he really has a good match up option and for me seems a weak link. Hunt may also struggle. Is their anyone in the VFL who could do a job shutting down a port mid or half forward?

^not really. you guys are CLEARLY expected to win by about 9/10 neutral supporters. That's the way I see it anyway.
