Grand Final Transport

I caught one in 2005. It left on Friday night and got there on Saturday morning, then left on Saturday night at around 11pm. It sucked because i wanted to stay longer and party, but i was ****ing wasted by that time anyway. I booked it through an ad in the paper, so check there perhaps and the bus was only half full and he charged $100, so it wasn't too bad.

I actually live in Brisbane, and I can get a reasonable flight back on the Tuesday after the grand final... it's just getting there which is the issue.

Cheapest direct flight is 300 bucks one way, then 200 back. With ****ing Tiger

Yeah it's Grand Final weekend, they know. I spoke to a few Eagles fans at the 2005 Grand Final, and from memory some of them were paying over $1,000 return. The ones that couldn't afford it, ended up driving all the way from Perth. It's a farce, but there is no choice as some people will be desperate to go.

Road trip.. maybe find a way to share the driving/fuel (or even car hire 40 bucks a day)with other members.. Some sorta notice board somewhere?

edit; just noticed location Brisbane.. good luck with that.

Lol. Nah, i work for Cityrail so i get a discount, so i managed to nab the last sleeper. 178 bucks. Train gets in 8 am sat, and return leaves 8pm. Never been to melb, so have time to look around. Flying solo, need to find a good pub for lunch. Cant wait!!

Any chance you can change the return trip to a later time? If we win, it's always good to kick on over at Punt Rd.....

If there is anyway you could swing a later ride if we win the flag it would be well worth attending the morning after in South Melbourne, it goes off.

Worth it.

Would like to, but only 2 trains to Sydney per day, 8 and 8 pm. Have to work monday so couldnt do 8 pm. Shame, but not paying for flights when i can get there and back so cheap. I've said before i'm travelling alone and wouldnt mind meeting some BF'rs

First bit is mainly directed at Sydney based Swans fans and the second bit is mainly directed at Swans fans who aren't September members.

Sorry for the intrusion but I'm curious about whether you will be getting to Melbourne by plane, train, bus or car and how much the mode of transport will cost you?

I'm also curious about how you get access to Grand Final tickets if you are a member but not a September member?

I'm asking so I have some idea of what to expect if the Lions make the big one in the future (obviously transport from Brisbane to Melbourne would cost more than Sydney to Melbourne).

I'm flying down on the Thursday morning, and back on the Monday morning.

Was meant to be working this week, but contract start date was pushed back a week at the last minute. Meant I save about $300-400 on flights, I'd reckon.

If you can avoid travelling on the Friday-Sunday, it's a money saver.

I had a guaranteed premiership membership, but this year all members who applied for GF tickets received one, regardless of whether they were September members or 3-game Sydney members. Evidently, not many fans could afford to make the trip down, or just didn't plan ahead, assuming we wouldn't make it. They sold out today with a second sale.

I also was able to buy a premiership upgrade in June, which you wouldn't have a chance of doing at the big Victorian clubs.

I imagine you'd have a similar situation with Brisbane, especially with the slightly lower membership figures.

How much are you paying for flights and accommodation?

Brisbane is one of the biggest bandwagon towns in history, when we start winning, many Lions "fans" will sign up as members.

Flights were probably about $210-220 all up (only booked on Friday night after the prelim win). $100 of that is covered by some Jetstar credit due to a cancelled flight. The other consequence of the cancelled flight was I got to sit in the airport bar and watch Richmond lose to the Gold Coast, so the cancellation has paid handsome football dividends.

Accommodation is with relos. So I'm paying in forced conversation.

$530 plane tickets, booked Saturday morning after prelim.
$200 tickets, done via membership.
No accomodation, staying with mate.
