5 - When you get in the taxi write down details from the drivers ID on the viser . They will be extra nice to you . This idea came from a Sydney local . Record details of the cab before you get in
Always the first thing I do. When my girlfriend is coming home from anywhere, she always makes a performance out of texting me the number too.

Wow, can't beleive how much some are spending. I'm doing it on the cheap:

Return tickets on the Greyhound bus - $166.50
A bed in a hostel on Flinders Lane for Saturday night - $32
GF ticket paid for by my dad - $0

Total: $198.50

Local cabbies taking advantage of visitors/tourists is hardly unique to Melbourne/Sydney... I think of the times I've gotten cabs when travelling in Asia where it would have been easy to be taken advantage of due to the language barrier, but luckily have never had a problem. It can be scary when you're in a place you don't know, though, so be careful!

Driving to Melbourne from Adelaide today. I've had my swans guernsey on since 6am!!

Anyone got any advice for someone driving down on what time to arrive? Hate to drive up and find the carpark full. Was thinking of getting there around 7-8. Never been to a granny before so I'm unsure just how quick it fills up.

Im driving across from Adelaide tonight... Plan to hit Melbourne by around 7ish... Plenty of time to soak up the atmosphere :D

Keep in mind if coming from interstate that if it gets too wet they often shut the mcg carpark. Another option is to park near a train station and catch a train to Flinders st. I love the walk from Flinders st to mcg a geat way to soak up the atmosphere as you walk to the ground.

Loooked at the wrong time and was an hour and a half early for my train. Nervous much? 4 beers settled them.
