Blacklisted, them decided to name names and was accepted back into the fold, but despised by many even when he died, just 5 years ago.

My favourite of his was a film he made in Britain when on the run from the House of Un-American Activities hearings. Called "Obsession", it stars Robert Newton as a mild mannered doctor who finds his wife is having an affair with an American, so he kidnaps him and chains him up in a deserted house. He feeds him, cares for him but each day brings a hot water bottle full of acid and pours it into a bath in the house. When the bath is full he plans to burn the man alive! A gruesome plot and an extremely well made film. Bloody hard to find, it is worth tracking down.

Caught The Caine Mutiny again on the weekend and it still holds up well. For a laugh though, try and find Shalako, a late 1960s western misfire starring Sean Connery as a Socttish gunfighter. Dreadful, but fun.
