How good has Collingwoods recruiting been the last two years?

For a start we have picked up players the calibre of T. Cloke, Rusling, Thomas and Pendelbury.

Thomas was a stroke of genius at pick 2 and has proven to be the pick of the draft.

Pendelbury is slaying them for Willy and will get a gig in the seniors very soon. Has been likened to Del Santo and is a beauty.

Rusling though injured has shown in his few games that he will add another dimension in what is fast proving to be the best forward line in the league.

T. Cloke held the forward line together in '05 as a 17 year old due to injuries to Rocca, Tarrant, Didak and Fraser. Great effort.

The recruiting staff avoided the temptation to draft ANY recycled players this year. The ONLY club to do so.

A very impressive effort from our new recruiting team led by David HINE. The Dividends are paying off already. While other clubs pick up duds like Hay, Thompson, Ottens and Cole, we'll pick up the best young talent.

Got completely dismantled by a second gamer on Monday.

Perry will dismantle Travis for the next decade.

Exactly. That was before our new recruiting guru took over in 2005. I agree that the recruiting was shocking back then.

Marc Murphy's form's been pretty good and until Xavier Ellis plays next year, we won't really be able to say who was the pick of the bunch.

Its been good, could have been better.

We should have got lewis instead of egan.

Mundy is another we missed out on, that was under noel though.

When other clubs were picking up Thompson and Ottens your club was picking up Chad Morrison.

Not a great example turbo.

you nuf nuf. Thompson and Ottens have been absolute superstars havn't they??. I don't reckon morrison was a good choice but he cost us next to nothing unlike the 2 players you just mentioned who cost alot more.

As far as the drafting is concerned it definately looks promising but we won't really know for sure until about 4 years time when the players fully develop .

As I understand it only 5 players in our current team were not recruited under Mick;

Bucks
Pebbles
Presti
Taz
SSB

(no doubt someone will correct me if I am wrong)
I'd say our recruiting has been pretty good over the past 7 years

Idiot.

Thompson and Ottens have been very good players. Not necessarily 'Superstars', but then, not many are.

I think Morrison cost a lot when you look at his output. The Pies have many HBFers/Midfielders, I'd have The Chad behind many, Lockyer, both Shaws, O'Brien, Maxwell... You don't need him.

IF you had had pick seven the Pies could have had Lewis instead of softy Egan. Plus a pick somewhere around 37.

To say Morrison didn't cost anything and that Ottens and Thompson, playing harder positions are equal in output to Chad is stupid.

Reports seem to say that we were going to get Egan with #7 anyway. We knew noone around that pick was thinking of picking him up, we wanted Morrison so we downgraded the pick and gave away Nixon to get him.

I don't really disagree with the decision if the fact about Egan is true. If we had the same amount of injuries as we did last year, I would rather play a Morrison than rush a Cook/Nicholls/Pendlebury/Cox/Thomas/Iacobucci when they are clearly not ready. Obviously Thomas and even Pendlebury are ready for AFL but he gives us depth. It wasn't like his career is finished, he is about 27 and coming back from injuries with promising form for WCE. We were probably banking on him continuing that form and perhaps building on it.

In the end we gave up a pittance for Morrison. The (minimal) risk really didn't pay off but at least we have that little bit extra depth.
