Greg Miller "on the couch" interview

Smoke and mirrors Jangles!

Reckon he's got his hands burnt and is now saving face. Those that "get fired" generally have a bit more lip about them than that.

Either his hands are tied, because he has financial commitments tied up with his departure (Grant Thomas style) or he got what he deserved. ;)
The Richmond Football Club and Greg Miller never had contractual obligations

He said something like he wanted to leave the club in a better position than when he started.

Indeed he has :thumbsu:

Come on now... its not as if that was going to be hard. At the time he joined, we were having members dumping truckloads of shit out the front of offices.

I like Miller and would prefer him there than gone, but, gee whiz, lets not get too far ahead of ourselves.

Finances are better, but thats not by his doing. Onfield performances are marginally better, the only thing he can hang his hat on is that our future looks better. But we cant really judge that for another 5 years.

The list looks heaps better and he should take some credit for that. But without Wallace's willingness to turn it over so quickly, Miller wouldnt have been able to do much.

;)

What else would you expect walls, Heally and sheehan to do, say that the RFC is right??????

get with the program

I dont get the show here but my assumptions sound correct. And what I expect is impartial objective reporting nothing more, nothing less but given the makeup of the panel then we can expect the usual anti Richmond propaganda bashing .

I'm thinking more of the hack list he inherited and the one we have now. There is a marked difference.
Surely you wouldn't want the list he inherited still there?
Of course not.
So he has left the club in a better position IMO.

PS: You were the first person I thought of when Free was appointed lol. I remember old posts of yours ;)

Sheahan did make one sensible comment

He said his feeling was that this "review" gained momentum about mid-season when we were 3-7 and a draw and there were serious rumblings of unhappiness ... unfortunately the players have got thier schit together making this all the more awkward .

If we were on 4-5 wins this would have been a simple changing of the guard

Look Froarsy ... through this i have been completely with your stance on this one and by and large a still am .

But rationally ... "IF" there was no leak on this one then it wouldn`t have ended up the farce it has ...Who is to say GM was not responsible for the leak himself ?... clearly he was the puppeteer with his hand right up Mike sheahans clacker tonight.

Funny how Gary March is not "on the couch" giving Richmonds side of the story.

There is more to this than we know ....

I think it's the fact that it was leaked that is just typical Richmond. When everything seems to be going right, something comes along and stuffs it up.
And agree with you about GM possibly being the leak.
I'm just pissed off at the timing mainly - I really want to make the finals!
That's what our focus should be, not this garbage.

You knew this would make me pipe up.... the only thing that stops me from saying what l really think, is that another thread gets shut down.

Its a pathetic appointment. Its about as good as Tony Liberatore going back to the bulldogs or Barry Mitchell still being at the Blues.

Wrong, wrong, wrong

Exactly ... so lets drop it and move on .

Fact is Brisbane is the first team we have beaten above us on the ladder in f... knows how long ...

Still a lot of work to do

I've also been in fights with people on another board for the last two years about people in the background trying to get rid of TW and GM, basically because they don't like him. Stuff that he's doing an okay job at the moment.
Even though their predictions are two years late, they seem to coming to fruition.
Does seem to be a groundswell emerging.
And as ID said, there's more to this than just a bloke getting the boot.
That review will be interesting
Nothing wrong with reviews - didn't hurt Geelong. All I hope is they're unbiased and whoever's conducting the review doesn't have any predetermined views ;)

I dont think that if terry turned us round quicker that he would be staying.
He had done his job and it was time to employ proffesionals in the departments he was taking care of (hopefully).
This club looks to be finally heading in the right direction and building a powerhouse again(hopefully but confident)
So lets keep it going.

I cant see how it would serve the clubs interests in any manner whatsoever to purposely leak this information It would realize that what is unfolding now, would be the outcome and it would poorly reflect on and reinforce the public view of a club eating its own.

I'd agree that it sounds like Miller for reasons best known to him who purposely released it .

Over the years there have been a lot of GM detractors but a quick look at the facts and you will see that he has overseen the growth of our list from a laughing stock to one that offers more for the future on field than anything we have seen in 25 plus years.
I for one say a big thankyou Greg Miller
Below is a list of the players drafted since Miller arrived.
I may have it wrong but I cannot recall if he was in charge for the 2002 draft. My guess is that he was not.
I have marked players in bold that are still on the list and would be classed as a big part of our future and listed the players in Italic that have to cement a spot but have the goods to do it .

2006 13 Jack Riewoldt 26 Shane Edwards 58 Daniel Connors
60 Carl Peterson 73 Andrew Collins
2005 8 Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls 24 Cleve Hughes 40 Travis Casserly
2004 1 Brett Deledio 4 Richard Tambling 12 Danny Meyer
16 Adam Pattison 20 Dean Polo 36 Luke McGuane 52 Dean Limbach
65 Mark Graham
2003 21 Alex Gilmour 37 Thomas Roach 53 Daniel Jackson 64 Shane Morrison
70 Brent Hartigan 73 Shane Tuck 76 Andrew Raines
79 Simon Fletcher 81 Kyle Archibald
2002 12 Jay Schulz 41 Tim Fleming 47 Bill Nicholls 62 Daniel Sipthorp

Add to this list 2007
Trent CotchinAlex Rance
Dean Putt

And lets not forget the players that came via the rookie draft in this period.
Nathan Foley, Kelvin Moore, Will Thursfield, Jake King, and Angus Graham

Lets not forget the imports Brown McMahon and Morton

For comparison I have included the 6 years prior to Millers arrival.
2001 33 David Rodan 63 Adam Houlihan 68 Chris Hyde
77 Martin McGrath
2000 9 Kayne Pettifer 25 Mark Coughlan 40 Chris Hyde
2000 41 Andrew Krakouer 55 Chris Newman 57 Steven Sziller
1999 3 Aaron Fiora 22 Ezra Poyas 39 Scott Homewood
1999 52 Andrew Mills 78 Ty Zantuck
1998 40 James White 55 Marc Dragicevic 68 Matthew Greig 7 Ray Hall
1997 2 Brad Ottens 53 Lionel Proctor 69 Paul Greenham
71 Andrew Kellaway
1996 16 Pat Steinfort 35 Mark Chaffey 41 Mathew Manfield 55 Steven McKee
63 Jason Baldwin 72 Brent Frewen 79 Daniel Donati 91 Richard Rotstein

Wrong, wrong, wrong

He's not a very well liked man from what a lot of people say.
But putting that aside whether he's a good bloke or not, he doesn't appear to have any credentials which is probably the point we should be focusing on.
It might be more "help, help, help"

thought that was pretty spot on to, Mid season review 3/7...Lets do it the board say...a month later $%!@$, fkt we'll do it anyway:eek:

What a joke.

Why didn't they ask him about some of his brilliant recruiting decisions eg JON and Meyer. What a waste of a pick 8 and 12. Tragic.

Let him off the hook far too easily for mine.

Only player who's done any good and gets a regular game for us after being drafted by Miller with a pick 40 or later: Shane Tuck.

He is massively overrated, though not by me. Cheerio Gregory!

Hands up all those who have NEVER posted that they wanted Miller sacked at any time in the past 12 months!

Fair enough to be upset at the timing, but all these tears being shed over a guy that refused to sell his North Melbourne shares.

The club wouldnt have gotten rid of him if he they werent concerned about the way he went about his job.

funny u say that, I got that impression not too many in the media were going into bat for him, with the exception of Healey on 3AW..In any case his intentions were always in the right place for the for RFC and I beleive he was genuine in his interest in watching how the many players he recruited to the club kick on..Leave him be, all of you

Who knows, maybe in that time the club already had an in principle agreement, or something more with a new incoming replacement. Probably no way back, so out the door he went

I was talking about Tony Free lol
:D

lol..ok...The only bad word Ive heard on him is from a couple of eggs around here..I met him once out on the turps at the Downunder Bar in Carlton ~ 20 years ago and was a gentleman, nothing like the green eyed monster talked of earlier

I went out with him :D
Well, kind of hahaha
He was my date - I won him at the auction :p
He was a gentleman and I have nothing against him either.
Until and if he stuffs up my club and it's on lol
