I'm cautiously optimistic that Griff has finally realised that if he plays with intensity and passion, he could be a very, very good AFL ruckman.

We all know he's got the tools to be a gun, and the last two weeks, he's started using them properly. Absolutely nothing like the bloke who was rightly dropped after an insipid effort in R1; today he was hitting marking contests hard, getting involved in tackles and finding himself at the bottom of packs... And I even saw him roughing up Freo players after a few little scuffles...

Cautiously optimistic... Maric & Griff could be one of the premier ruck combinations in the League.
 
I think we all realise the sort player he could be when he puts in the sort of effort he has the last 2 weeks I just think people are a bit quick to criticises him we need to remember he is still only young playing one of the hardest positions IMO and ruckmen always take longer to devolp

You're probably right.

Either way, let's hope he does continue to turn the corner.

If so, we may actually get a 2nd-3rd round pick for him instead of the mouldy sandwich on offer a month ago.

That "reporter" also stated that for a rare time this season we used a loose man in defence in Scott Stevens.

Um, no. That has occurred in pretty much all games this season at one moment or another. :rolleyes:
 
I'm cautiously optimistic that whether its Maric/Griff, Maric/Sellar, Maric/Moran that the coaching panel realise that we look a damn sight better with two rucks and Tippett playing permanently in the forward line.

I thought the boys did well yesterday given their opponent and their joy was palpable when the siren went and seeking each other out. They realised what they had helped achieve.

I reckon the joy had more to do with the fact they wont have to battle Sandilands again this year.


Was quite impressed with the effort put in to stop that giant. The few times he got a hitout to advantage (8 of 37 H/O) Freo looked very dangerous and that contributed to the two quick goals they got. Without the team effort of Maric and Griff we would have been smashed.
 
Well with Griffin with heart, in form Maric, uninjured Moran, uninjured in form Sellar and in form McKernan and improving (hopefully) Craig.....we don't need any more rucks.
 
I was still disappointed with a marking contest early where he basically shirked it, you could tell he didnt want a bar of it. I was fuming. To be fair though he was one of the blokes who fired up when Filthy went down to give him credit for that.

Maric & Griff both played well and they negated Sandilands' influence. Both showed aggression and the tactics used in the centre square will no doubt be copied by other teams. Our on-ballers also worked well and harder than any other match this season.
I didn't notice the shirk in the 1st q. I'm not saying it didn't happen, but it certainly didn't stand out.
 
It was apparent at times that both Griffin and Maric were attempting to impede Sandilands more so than win the tap themselves. Also took every opportunity they could to shove and niggle him.
 
Im glad Griffin has finally come good, his work around the ground was really good and ran hard all day. What i found from my spot at the ground was he negated sandilands well (stopped him from taking marks, made a decent contest at the Hitouts etc)- the bloke has a great kick on him and if we can get him the ball more often he can be very damaging. Looking at the stats he had 5 tackles! good effort from a big man and no sign of the pea heart effort of round 1.
