My frustrations hit an all time high last friday night but after doing some reserach on whats goin on at the Lexus centre the following players are carrying injuries:

1. Swan (Calf)
2. Didak (hamstrings- all year apparantly)
3. Fraser (back)
3. Presti (ankle, back)
4. Clement (obvisouly not match fit)
5. Shaw (quad)
6. Johnson (knee)
7. Obree (unknown)

Just cant stack up at the moment with people carrying injuries.

No player is 100% injury free at this point in the year but i think we have all been saying that Johnson and Swan have been shadows of there former selves this would go a little way to explaining both although i feel either way Swanny will need to learn how to beat the tag. Didak's form has been poor all year but coming back from knee op and with all other distraction dunno how much role the hammy played. Ryan Lonie is also suffering from a major case of Pea Heart

In earlier stages this season we had a long injury list however all players injured were rested, younger guys came in, but at least all players were at least close to being fully fit.

Now our injury list, apart from Egan and Anthony, is nil however these players you mentioned (practically a third of the 22) are playing underdone - add in Buckley and Pendles too.

I think we should have bitten the bullet and rested these guys much earlier. We are near a full strength team on paper however going on recent evidence, this is less important than being fit.

Line that up against Brisbane in the 2003 GF. Players play injured all the time and the later in the year it is the more that is true. Fraser has look out of sorts on ad off all year. He is either mentally or physically below par. I am not sure which it is or which would be more likely to cause him to quit the leadership group but I am sure it was another episode of poor list management that sees him as our only semi viable ruck option.

Clement was very good his first game back, don't you think the concussion he suffered the week before had an effect? The rest though correct weight.

Johnson hasn't been up to last years standard all year I dont think you can put him in same category as Swan - he had hamstring injury earlier in year and came back fine and has been one of our most valuable players - been tagged twice and some of it was illegal scragging that if you did to Judd would be picked up - people forget even though his been at the club a few years i still consider him young when you look at it in terms of games played - his 50th was second last game last year - most drafted in same year have well past the 100 mark which means they are two years ahead - surely the likes of buckley could give him some advice about the tag at the moment i would say confidence and injury are also an issue for him - we all love them when their helping us win games and then we jump on them when we begin to lose - surely the fitness staff are accountable for the how the team is playing at the moment - even hawthorn gave their guys a light training session to win their next game. Hoepfully we can win a few more and then build for next year again. Keep chin up:thumbsu:

May we have some more info. on the source(s) used to obtain these 'research' results please? Without that, I'll merely consign it to my unsubstantiated rumors file. Most of the players you mention have been up and down - but mostly down in recent weeks.

It was a little heartening that the Magpies were supposedly looking very closely at Hampson, but ultimately preferred Brown/didn't think Hampson was worth the pick. I hope that with the depth of ruck talent in this draft, we pick up a ruckman or two.

The downside is that drafting a ruckman won't help Josh next year. :thumbsd:

I dunno just the last couple of weeks I've noticed Presti has been very sluggish also Harry O has lost significant form ever since his injured so maybe his still carrying the shoulder injury. It's just from observation that's all but I could be wrong.

All teams carry injuries to an extent.
Collingwood have a very young side and a lot of first and second year players. Historically these younger players struggle to see out a full season without some kind of slump.

Lets hope this "slump" has come and gone.

If we can't get a form reversal and a win this week we are really "under the pump" and the season will have been a good building year with no real shot at finals success.
This is not to say it is all over, but no team can take the form that Collingwood has at the moment into a finals series with any great optimism.

I still think the boys will win by 3 goals but now it appear Bucks will not play so obviously he won't kick 2.

By no means is that meant to be a gig at Swan although i think that your his 2 years behind is a lil mislead as while he wasnt playing afl he was getting afl training facility advice etc so came into AFL with an AFL trained body. I think ideally we would have a strong enough midfield that swanny doesn't get the number one tag his not the quickest or most creative player doesn't have a strong enough body to beat taggers with brute force. That said he will learn his own devices to counteract the tag, that said i don't think he is the sort of player that should ever have to deal with the number 1 tagger

He was 17 when he was drafted and not very much muscle he had injuries like an appendicitis, hamstring (3 times) and broken hand twice - he has even said in the press it was tarrant that helped him with gym work before being traded and he worked with ben johnson on the track - he is no. 1 at agility at the club therefore he needs to work in the packs - can read the play and find it - speed sometimes not important unless you know what to do with it. Cloke is coming up for his 50th so swan is not that far in front yet his been there much longer - his body looks okay to me but ling would have been too strong his a tank - have a look at the hawthorn game and a St.kilda game and see what impact he had - he can run a little when he gets going dont you remember the headland run down as the commentators say his speed is deceiving just because he doesnt accelerate fast like Thomas who i might add last year i saw swan and him running for a ball swan was behind but beat him to it - he doesnt have stamina but may have the quick pace - personally i like the player and last year if it wasnt for him we wouldnt have made so far - as some supporters say now he kept us in the 8 for a few of the games this year.

Don't get me wrong I do rate him, that sid a lot of his early days attiude was another massice concern on top of injuries. He does have great agility and i would love to see him get more clearance type ball in the packs because he does read it so well and is so agile. That said I still don't think he is the sort of player who would get the number 1 tag in many other sides

yeh, you are probably right if bucks was in he would get it but it is interesting that other sides seem to think he is the key - personally i prefer he didnt get one as then he is more damaging to the opposition but lately becaue he has been getting the tag the others dont step up - malthouse moves him around to get him near the ball in forward line and backline - his a great utility player and he often leads the way like shaw with what to do on the field - some players have skills but make stupid judgements and later collingwood have made some silly mistakes when placing the ball obviously lack of confidence. But once again i dont think the tagging has helped his confidence it must be pain havign someone pull at you all day look at Cooney his lost it with Ling the week after we played them - i personally dont like it as part of the game - should be beaten one on one - not basketball type tactics. Glad you rate him though as i do he and shaw and some of the young guys will be good.

I actually think he is a massive key and a bit of a barometer of the way we are going as he does read the play so well and works so hard to be the link player and give the guy with the ball an option. So when he is been tagged heavily our ball movement is a lot more fluent. The reason i don't think he is the sort of player that should get tagged is exactly that. Taggers usually go to damaging creative type players. The sort of players whose 20 positions are worth so much more becuase the use the ball so well or carry it. Cousins. Judd. Ablett. Cooney etc Swanny does not usually carry or create he works hard and gets to the right spots and wins 50/50 ball those players west cross etc usually don't get tagged and the reason swanny does is becuase there is really no one else in our midfield that they feel is important enough to tag.

I don't think he has the tools or leadership of Shaw however.
