We're excited to announce that Gryan Miers will remain in the Hoops until the end of 2028 after signing a two-year contract extension.

Already contracted until the end of 2026, Miers has signed on early, with the crafty player extending a year before becoming a free agent.

Still waiting on article link 😂

And now we get the link

And this shows the durability of Miers:

Known for his hard running, Miers was recruited out of the Geelong Falcons Under 18s program with Pick 57 in the 2017 AFL National Draft, playing a key role in Geelong’s 2022 Premiership campaign, despite a delayed start to that year with injury.

Miers had played every game since securing his place in Geelong’s best 22 in 2022, with a 76 consecutive games streak ending after sustaining a concussion against the Hawks. The lengthy streak followed on from a 50-game streak that ran from his debut in Round 1, 2019 until an injury in Round 7, 2021.

Clubs were frothing at the fact he was gonna be a "Gettable" option for next year as one of the top players on the market.
One of the best disposals and hardest runners in footy, the local boy stays Home and reckon he'll be a Cat for life

Encara Messi!

Would have expected a longer deal but happy with this.

Will renegotiate as EBA will go up exponentially.
Most Cats players don't sign on long term deals so not surprised by it.

Like you, I'm not worried by it, either.

There's as much chance of Gryan playing elsewhere as there is of JHF running out for the Roos in 2026.

GM Draft notes:

Gryan Miers is a natural footballer who while he might lack a yard and a natural leap, he makes up for it in football IQ which is off the charts. He could well be one of the smartest footballers in the draft crop and his ability to sniff out a goal when few others sense the opportunity make him an exciting prospect at the next level. He has elite endurance which only enhances his ability to shine throughout four quarters and he works his opponents over with his tireless running and the knowledge that they cannot afford to relax at any point in the game. While his athleticism, in particular his speed is below that of your average player, his ability to play to his strengths means it will not impact him at AFL level.

STRENGTHS

  • Footy IQ
  • Endurance
  • Goal sense

FTFY :sunglasses:

Fantastic news.

He's had a difficult year so far. Scoring impact way down (goal/assist and score involvement average). Disposal a bit erratic.

But his first game back was good. A couple of unfortunate howlers, but 23 disposals, a goal and 2 goal assists is more of a classic Miers game.

Elite Miers output for the rest of the season would be a key factor in securing us finals football. He's that important to Geelong now.

Turned himself into a wonderful footballer.
I have never seen another player like him. The kicking style and his selflessness has really brought another element to the game.
It's not an over-exaggeration to suggest he is Geelong's barometer. When Miers is running hot, Geelong score at will.

Who wrote that I'm on their bandwagon.

One of the most unique players in the league in terms of his skill set / the role he plays. Has come such a long way from the early days when he looked as though he would just be an average-reasonably good forward pocket specialist. We are so fortunate to have him.

rapidfire7: had similar views with Gryan, although there were some games earlier on where he did show glimpses of being a better than OK player for us but what really got my attention was during one off-season and before Gryan really started to explode. And that was when Gazza Jnr was asked who was the one young Geelong player he thought could go places and Gazza replied without hesitation that Gryan Myers had the makings of a top AFL player which really took me back at the time but I did take notes and never forgot those comments with the end result of Gazza being right on the mark..... hail Gazza Greatness, both Jnr and Snr, both living legends of our great footy club!
