I've read with interest but not commented until now because most of you seem to had a reasonable assessment of where Guerra's career was at. I think the words 'poo' and 'unfulfilled potential' have been used at various points. However I thought I'd use dipper86's post as a reference to make my views known.
Not wrong. He was leaving whether he wanted to or not. I'm not sure if his contract with us was up when traded to the Saints (he may have had another year) but he was never going to get another one at Alberton. By the end of 2003 he wasn't even first 22 when Chocco had better options. Same as with Thomas at the Saints by the end of 2005.
Change 'reluctant' to 'relieved'. If he approached his career in a mature way he could have been a very good player. That is if he'd trained well, played consistently, lived a more moderate off-field lifestyle. But a player with his attitude as it was then is a cancer at a club. Based on his follow-up failure at St Kilda he'd have to go some way to convincing the ex Port people at Hawthorn of his having any value now.
He has never had a good year yet. He has had some speccy games for both teams, where he has been well supported. But he has had far too many where he has done nothing at all.
