Number 1 pick is meaningless to us as the pools are state based. We can take the actual number 1 pick at 20 if she only elects for NSW. No problem trading high picks to Victorian teams for gun players

That's why hanging the "Number 1 Draft Pick" tag on Nicola Barr is a bit unfair. For one, a whole heap went ahead of her as marquees and then she was the first picked in NSW because we had the first pick and picked from NSW. Not like it was an open draft like the men's with all the pressure that comes from being labelled no. 1

This is what was puzzling me, the number one pick we give away is not really a number one pick for us, but becomes a highly prized possession for a Vic club, where it's closer to being a real draft. In short, we give away nothing.

So, we become a strong team and the Mexicans will melt over how many leg ups we got and its all gone too far and its not fair and boo bloody hoo

Remaining flight risks are

McWilliams VIC
Stephenson VIC
Schmidt WA
Williams WA

Williams the highest priority in that group at this stage

A 3 pronged Key defence of Williams, Randall and tomkins will free up Barclay to play permanently up front

Remaining flight risks are
Stephenson VIC

Not sure about Stephenson as a huge flight risk, I mean anything is possible, but here's just a couple of recent tweets that put my mind at ease on the matter.

Which included a retweet of this one

And then a retweet if the Alicia Eva signing...

Would be great if she stayed as we didn't get to see much of her and she could be the KPF we sorely need

Meanwhile, the Giants have strengthened their AFL Women's list after a wave of activity during the trade period. The club gave up its No.1 draft pick as part of a trade to secure Collingwood talent Alicia Eva and have also brought in Melbourne duo Pepa Randall and Madeleine Boyd, and former Carlton Blue Rebecca Privitelli. Ashleigh Guest and Alex Williams have left the club while ex-WNBL star Jess Bibby has retired. The bulk of their playing list from last season has also been re-signed for a further 12 months, including captain Amanda Farrugia and best and fairest Jess Dal Pos. Ten slots remain unfilled on their expanded 30-player list. "We've improved in terms of game sense and skills, that cultural base for the players is there," Giants AFLW manager Libby Sadler said. "It complements the strong core of local talent that we've retained from last year and some of the Victorian and WA players that we had last year. "One of the key commodities in the AFLW program, players who are great value to the game are those who understand where it's come from, where it can go, great skills and elite leadership and Alicia [Eva] certainly ticks all those boxes. "She's a great core component of our squad moving forward to take them into the future. She's the all-round package, she'll complement our younger players really well, she'll complement our leaders really well and she's a perfect fit for the club in terms of its culture and where it wants to go."

So with free agency over it would seem outside of rookie pick ups its just the draft to go and would think unless Haneen Zrieka goes back to league she will be our first NSW selection when the draft happens in October.

Zreika is now part of the GWS Giants Academy, has an AFL scholarship and is hoping to be drafted into the AFLW next year.
But the rugby league diehard said a chance to do the same in the code she’s most passionate about could bring her back.
“Rugby league was my first passion. It is my favourite game. You can’t go wrong with rugby league,” she said.

Sounds like it depends on how well the NRL get their act together, history says they are no chance..
