GWS Giants

How did you determine the centre of these locations?
Google maps. It shows the centre of Fremantle being at the Freo Markets, right next door to Fremantle Oval, and it shows the centre of East Fremantle being at the intersection of Canning Highway and Angwin Street. It doesn't really matter too much though because the shopping district on George Street, East Fremantle is also about 500 metres or so from the Inner Harbour of the Indian Ocean.

FFS . It is not complicated .
Fremantle is on the coast . East Fremantle is not .
No matter how you try and spin it East Fremantle is East of Fremantle .
To get to the coast from East Fremantle you must travel through Fremantle or cross the river and travel through North Fremantle .
I have no idea why you cannot accept these simple facts but they have nothing to do with the GWS being named the Giants and the giant leap forward of Australian Football in Sydney .As a Swans supporter I look forward to great rivalry in the harbour city albeit sharkless .

.

many a BF poster has suffered before you Cos just don't go there

just admit that calling East Fremantle the Sharks is appropriate.

Go back and you will find that I have never said the "Sharks" is inappropiate for the East Fremantle F.C. I said and I repeat East fremantle is not on the coast (no matter how you try to spin it).East Fremantle is East of Fremantle which definately is on the coast and by you saying it's N.E. of Fremantle just confirms the Easterley component .

should not be compared to calling Greater Western Sydney the Sharks which would have been completely inappropriate.

Well that is your opinion .Other opinion is that these mascots/monikers/logos rarely have anything to do with the teams they represent and the shark is a number one attacking animal .

Are there giants in WS ?
Is there glory in Perth ? Certainly it has no force !
Is there power in P.A. ?
Are there lions and tigers in Australia ?
Are there broncos in Brisbane ?
Are ther Titans on the GC ?
Are there wolves in Woolllongong ?
How many dragons have you seen in Sydney ?
OK ,so there are dragons in Sydney along with swans and roosters.
But the bears have left along ago with jets from the inner city .
Does Melbourne have a heart or demons or saints ?
It has the blues and pies with few bombers landing these days !

Somehow sharks in WS is not that big of a sin and it was just a suggestion ,not even one of my top picks.
I probably would have done it differently ,but I can see the direction GWSG is going and the overall package is good .They've got a license, figurehead ,a choice of stadia and a huge amount of sponsorship.Very encouraging .

So that just leaves - The Sydney Sharks in red and white !!!!
A giant of an idea.

I think I can clear up this whole sharks on the coast v inland business.

There. Now everyones happy:)

I'd heard that Adelaide were a bit behind the times, but didn't know they were THAT far behind.

Yeah not that far behind!

Actually there is a Power Station at Port Adelaide, and the first Power Station in Adelaide was also at the Port. So technically there is Power in Port Adelaide!

How did the AFL get it so right with the Gold Coast? A red jersey? Haven't seen that one before, especially not from my own team....

South Melbourne / Swans have always been White jerseys with a bit of Red, m'kay.. They are not red jerseys. GC is the only club in the AFL with a red jersey.

Go back and you will find that I have never said the "Sharks" is inappropiate for the East Fremantle F.C.
I didn't say that you did though.
I said and I repeat East fremantle is not on the coast (no matter how you try to spin it).
I know that is what you posted. So? What was your point regarding that? Were you trying to incorrectly suggest that sharks cannot be seen in East Fremantle? Also East fremantle is only 2 km's from Port Beach on the Indian Ocean which is very close, and the Swan River officially meets the Indian Ocean in East Fremantle.
East Fremantle is East of Fremantle which definately is on the coast and by you saying it's N.E. of Fremantle just confirms the Easterley component .
Component? Don't you mean direction? If you do, then East Fremantle is not east of Fremantle as you had said, but northeast of Fremantle, and it is on the water where sharks can be found.
Other opinion is that these mascots/monikers/logos rarely have anything to do with the teams they represent and the shark is a number one attacking animal .
At least clubs use land animals or something that represents the club in some way, such as spirit. The Sharks is a great nickname as long as the club is located near water where sharks can be found.
Somehow sharks in WS is not that big of a sin and it was just a suggestion ,not even one of my top picks.
Absolutely ridiculous suggestion because there isn't any water for sharks to live in Western Sydney.
I think I can clear up this whole sharks on the coast v inland business.

Ha ha ha! Unless of course it's the extremely dangerous, yet very cool Greater Western Sydney Giant Land Shark! :D

Get it right. Giants are orange in (western) Sydney.

Now there's an opportunity gone begging !!
With an earlier suggestions for the "Celtics" we could have had the jolly Green Giants and brought the Irish on board immediately whilst still going with the giants theme .
..

.

Actually somebody has it - maybe the state SFL side !

.

Eden Whalers in the Sapphire Coast FL. Red and white, and where the yolk meets, is two different designs- I believe their seniors had an old fisho with a pipe in mouth, and the other was of a whale with a harpoon through it! Our captain played for them for a year or two, said they'd do 'choose a water bottle' one with water, one with ouzo! Ouch.

Yes they are. I'm pretty sure that East Fremantle Oval is only be about 3 km's from the Indian Ocean.

I still think that GWS should be something that is prominent in the area, so Western Sydney Flannelettes. Kevin Sheedy should turn up to the launch in a Holden Monaro (HQ?) wearing a flannelette shirt and moccasins with a pie and tinny! He's a 'Westie' now, and he should be proud of it! ;)

Whilst I support the Cats and am looking to moving back down to Geelong in the not so distant future. I have spent most of my time over the years and am currently in Sydney's west. So happy to have them as my second team.

Also if I can get my car finished soon.....I'll see if I can get Sheeds down for the long overdue, previously mentioned pic!

When we start to target players has anyone thopught abour Cameron CLOKE. He is killing the local league in Melbourne???

he's also been less than an ideal performer at several clubs, including Collingwood, Carlton and Port Adelaide.

Can't speak for the other clubs but I know he (Cloke) was highly regarded at Port. Seems like when he got away from Melbourne he really grew up and at SANFL level was regarded as a leader.
