Just had a look at there phantom draft and it suggests we get Sidebottom and Nathan O'Keffe.

After going through the picks, it looks a fair chance that Steele may slide down to 15. Yes he was ultra impressive in the U\18 GF but I think the clubs wont let it change there judgment of him to the point where he jumps over players like Trengrove or Johnstone. (2 players that Wells would drool if either slipped to 15) Me too !!!
Dont know much about O'Keffe except that on the phantom draft page it says he is a key forward and is a good mark both on the lead and contested.

well the fact that steele is bottom age must make clubs even more keen to get him with the gold coast team set to get alot of draft picks next yr onwards.

someone like steele will be perfect for us because he is going to be a gun and he will be a year younger so i think this year if clubs are deciding between an 18 yr old or a 17 yr old i think they will go with the 17 yr old

I'd be wrapped if we got Sidebottom. He's bag in the TAC Cup final may have bumped him up a few spots however so I'm not going to get my hopes up to much.

Sidebottom reminds me a bit of a little Jack Russell terrier — always seems to be hanging around, always on the move, looking for something to do. I think this, in combination with his great instincts — he knows where to get to, just before he needs to be there — make up for his lack of leg speed. He’s a great overhead mark for his size and it will be interesting to see if this can translate to AFL level, where everyone will be bigger again. He plays with poise, dare and inventiveness.

Sounds like Stevie J Mark II.

Hopefully he is still around at pick 15. The Age have him going at Pick 10.

I'm pretty confident that they put the wrong O'Keefe to Geelong with Pick 33 (despite the slightly different spellings of their surnames). I noticed Rhys O'Keeffe wasn't in their first two rounds, but Nathan O'Keefe went to Geelong with #33.

In the BF Phantom Nathan went to Geelong with #39 and I consider him one of the most obscure players taken in the whole draft, let alone that early.

My suspicion is that they knew O'Keef(f)e was rated, saw that Geelong took him in our Phantom and did a write up on him. Unfortunately they are ****ing idiots and didn't realise that Rhys O'Keeffe is the second round prospect and Nathan O'Keefe is a smokey of the highest order. The ONLY times I've seen Nathan mentioned (who isn't too bad, mind you - I'm not having a go at him) was the BF Phantom and now the Herald Sun one. Coincidence? Absolutely not. Plagiarist pigs.

Interesting pick up Vic Crow. Rhys would def be around that Mark, although a bloke I know up gippy way said Nathan was talking to the Swans and Cats.

I had him in mine going later in the draft, I think Geelong will get him though. Could be a mistake on the sun website that works out well

with the first round pick you just have to go with the best available talent. You can start thinking about positions after that.

If you're after a more authentic Phantom Draft, there's usually one on the AFL website a couple of days before the draft. I think the guy who does it actually talks to all the recruiters before putting it out, so he has a fair idea of how things are going to fall.

Anyway, hopefully the Hawks pick up another Hodgey from down your way!

15 – GEELONG – ASHLEY SMITH
Dandenong Stingrays, VIC, Medium defender, July 20, 1990, 185.5cm, 84.7kg
(Draft range: 5-32)

Some recruiters believe Smith is as talented as any player in this draft. Widely regarded as a solid top 30 selection, he has even been touted as a smoky for the Dons at No.5. Hawthorn (No.16) and Port Adelaide (No.22) are also genuinely prospects, but in recent weeks, Smith has shot right into contention at Geelong and looms its most likely choice, unless Johnston is available. The Cats will be keeping an eye out for Trengove if he slid through and Swift, who remains right in the reckoning.

33 – GEELONG – MATTHEW BROADBENT
Eagles, SA, Tall defender, August 1, 1990, 189.3cm, 83.2kg
(Draft range: 15-33)

It would be very difficult to see the Cats pass up Broadbent at No.33, considering he is in their mix at No.15. The South Australian has plenty of admirers, including Hawthorn, Port Adelaide and Adelaide. He is widely praised among the recruiting fraternity and with Geelong looking to bolster its defence, he fits the bill. Cornelius will also be seriously looked at if available.

39 – GEELONG – AARON CORNELIUS
Tassie Mariners, TAS, Tall forward, May 29, 1990, 191.9cm, 83.7kg
(Draft range: 22-49)

Cornelius is regarded very highly by some recruiters, although he has drifted a little in the pecking order. It would not surprise if he was taken early in the second round or the back end of the third. Port Adelaide, Essendon, Sydney Swans, Western Bulldogs and Geelong have been the most common links. The Cats may also consider Luke Rounds and Ben Bucovaz at this pick.

49 – GEELONG – LUKE ROUNDS
Geelong Falcons, VIC, Medium midfielder, February 10, 1991, 180.9cm, 74.5kg
(Draft range: 39-not selected)

There is a strong chance Rounds will be snapped up by Geelong. A local boy from the Falcons, Rounds has also attracted interest from Essendon (67 or 79) and Collingwood (73) late in the draft. Bucovaz and Hall are two other strong contenders for Geelong's final pick, with Shiels, Jetta, Bart McCulloch, Jordan Jones, Jamie Sheahan, Sam McGarry, Riley Milne and Lance Daly also in the mix.
