I don't.

He was pretty average.

Wow he ran off and got a couple of possesions but other than that he had one or two team mates with him the whole time.

Even had to come off for a rest because he couldn't keep up.

Horrible player.

This.

Geelong's backline played Reiwoldt well as a unit. They play as a team and Taylor has his role in that, but he is not a great player by any stretch. Tarrant is miles in front as a one-on-one defender.

Milne and Schneider failed to capitalise on it.

I think Taylor did alright. Kept up with Reiwoldt until Reiwoldt ran him into the ground. Had a bit of help inside 50, and a bit of help from the weather. Certainly did enough to contribute to the win.

Now I will come out and preface my post by admitting I sometimes over-sympathise with defenders and find their lack of recognition in individual honours appalling. Good defenders can win games, no matter how unpopular that view may be.

I wanted to see big Harry get the Norm Smith. He slaughtered Vhitey and never seemed to be further than an arm length from him. Two of his efforts further up the ground in the last quarter definitely had a big say in Geelong winning, plus he had some other important touches throughout.

Harry did really well. Limited whitey to one mark in the first half. Took a real game saver in the last minutes. Tarrant might be better one-on-one but that doesn't mean Taylor is no good.

Silverscope, did you have a lot of money of the Saints? I've seen a few of your other posts and you seem pretty pissed ;)

Except for the 5-10 minutes every quarter when Mackie went on to him, because Taylor was stuffed and had to go to the bench...

It was a team effort which stopped Riewoldt from dominating, and it was also because of the team effort which allowed Taylor to run off. Taylor is a good defender in a great team, put him in a bottom 8 team and I get the feeling it would be another matter all together.

But having said that, Taylor does his job every week and is a part of the successful Geelong team defence.

I only had $20, just $5 bets on different things.

Thats not why i'm pissed, i have a soft spot for the saints as i grew up watching them. That and i ****ing hate Geepong!! with a passion.... have to work with people who support them and they are the most bogan pig supporters you'll ever meet.

Hate the club with a passion and our, freo, fued with them over the last couple of years has fueled it.

So yea i'm annoyed but not because i lost $20 but because i hate Geelong :)

I thought Taylor was fair. Not many tall defenders have the stamina to keep up with Riewoldt, but Taylor kept on him for most of the game. Good game, not Norm Smith worthy though.

i dont know how anyone can bag a guy that kept the best forward in the game to 1 goal.. yes he had help, yes he had to have a 5 minute breather every quarter, but gee.... reiwoldt had zero influence on the game....... surely you guys have to give credit where its due and say that taylor had a great game.... he wasnt norm smith worthy but he would have been in the cats best 5 players, behind ablett, chapman, bartel, and scarlett

All tall forwards had 0 influence on the game. It was wet... end of story.

I thought he played a great game. (Harry Taylor)

I think Bomber Thompson got suckered into playing Scarlett on Buddy last year. Buddy ran him all over the ground and negated his rebound from defence.

This year the same mistake could of been made by playing Scarlett on Riewoldt. Instead he played Taylor in a shutdown role. Which he did exceptionally well. Allowed Scarlett to rebound and cost Saints the game.

mooney 2 goals, hawkins 2 goals.... reiwold+koschitzke 1 goal.... that is a good defensive effort... not to mention the fact that geelong kept saints to 0 goals in the last quarter, a big reason for that was harry taylor keeping reiwoldt quiet IMO...... saying that tall forwards had 0 influence on the game is BS

Except that both Hawkins and Mooney got 2 goals each. (ok one of Hawkins hit the post)
Mooney had 2 goals.. but almost zero influence on the rest of the game. Hawkins had a minimal impact on the game also. One of his goals as you say hit the post and that wasn't through being a tall forward, that was through Dawson being crap. The other goal he marked about 40m out on his own. Hardly the normal work that a tall forward goes through. Mooney took one good pack mark, thats it.

Taylor's efforts to take two key marks in the last 5 minutes were crucial. One he could have let roll out of bounds instead of leaving Riewoldt to take the mark, and the other was a Leo Barry like mark. From both, important passages of play that resulted in goals came about.

So yeah, aside from keeping Riewoldt quiet (which people can debate) he was pretty important in the last 5 minutes to win the Cats the game.

I'd say kicking a third of the teams score is a pretty reasonable effort from two talls. Mooney and Hawkins gave their team, structure, played their role and contributed on the scoreboard.

Do you rate him yet Mundy?

Speaking of the relevance of Taxi driver Travis to this board, I've always wondered why, given he had two guns, in the movie Travis only ever practiced with one at a time. Kind of like having both Suban and Hill in your squad, but only ever playing one in your team. Perhaps that is Mundy's message - we need Freo to always practice and play with at least two guns??

There are some tough markers around here. HT is playing in the best team in the comp and gets the job on the best power forward going around, does his job, Cats win, he is almost unanimously lauded in the media, some think unlucky not to get the Normie.
Mark Thompson rates him pretty highly.
Can't do much more than that.
