Whats going on with CON (Cousin of Nick)? Can't get a game for a team desperate for a couple of marking options in the forward line? Saw he kicked 6 or 7 last week but by all accounts his form up to then has been shocking.

Looks like he is too small for KPP and too slow for flank, pocket?

CON in more ways than one.

Watched a bit of the Coburg/Geelong game and I have to agree. May not be up to AFL level. The Tiges have done it again!

Wander down to the G next weekend, little Melkor, and you might even see him kick a few. Or maybe even BOJaC (brother of Jarryd and Cale)...

At least he's kicking bags of goals at VFL level...what have the great black and white hopes Dawes, Reid etc done? Shame about ****** too...

Funny how when we bring em in they are more than ready to go. It is called player development. Notice you left out Nathan Brown, the latest off the production line. Goldsack was pick 70 odd and he would be in your best.

Reid will be a gun and Dawes is a project type due to his knee that we need ready for when Rocca retires.

Pity you don't have Travis Cloke, now that was truly visionery by the Tiges! Yeah I know you got Coghlan instead of Jason Cloke. How is Cogs doing :D (well if you want to bring up Rusling be prepared).
Dont go there - RH
And then there is tambling......

Didn't mention Brown because I thought you were talking about forwards. But you can change the goalposts if you like. Funny you should mention Cloke...last time I recall, he got towelled up by a certain Thursfield. Now I'm sure it was an one-off and Thursfield may indeed towel up many of our forwards too...but still, I'll quite happily keep Cogs over Clokes if Thursfield continues giving Cloke the run-around.

So player development is where your young forwards do nothing at VFL level? So what does kicking bags at VFL level mean then?

And why shouldn't I bring up Rusling? I like Rusling, he'll probably be very handy for the Pies, but before he injured himself, he hadn't done much more than Cleve Hughes anyway. I was in no way bagging him for being injured.

Are you Greg Miller? Fair dinkum the above observations are about as insightful as Greg's recruiting. Come one fess up Greggy.

Come on, melkor, answer me.

Player development...so having young forwards at VFL level doing nothing is player development? So what does kicking bags at VFL level mean? Reid and Dawes (perhaps not Dawes, I can't remember off the top of my head, but Reid certainly) came from the same draft as Riewoldt. He's kicking regular bags. Reid and Dawes aren't. What's the story?

Player development? Yeah we are really, really struggling on that front, so much so that we got rid of Williamstown so we can control every facet of our kids development.

There is not one person following AFL with a brain that would question the Pies player development against the Tiges. The results speak for themselves, we have gone through a complete re-build since 2003 and are back playing finals, you on the other hand just collected the wooden spoon despite having many, many years of high draft picks but somehow they just don't lead anywhere.

Dawes is coming off a knee reco that he suffered in 2006, he didn't play at all last season in the VFL. So if he is not kicking bags there's one reason.;)

Given he kicked six against last seasons VFL Premiers (Geelong) last weekend, I'd say he's doing alright.

Woo Hoo on that basis lets go out and recruit the best VFL players and the leading goal kickers. On that basis they will be gun AFL players, right?

WRONG.

Deflect, deflect, deflect. And still haven't answered the question.

I'm not asking about the universal development of each list (I'd be as critical as you of some of Richmond's efforts). I'm asking about the development of young forwards, specifically Hack Riewoldt vs Ben Reid and Chris Dawes. You raised the question of Hack Riewoldt, and I (and most other people with a brain) would say that Hack Riewoldt has outperformed Reid and Dawes at VFL level (and probably at AFL too, truth be told). Despite coming from the same draft.

You've dragged the goalposts twice now. You can't give an answer.

Nice talking to ya.

The pies are happy with both boys progress but their is no spot for them. We try and develop good AFL players, not VFL. Good VFL play does not equate to good AFL. We did OK with Trav and when the time comes we will unleash these two, Reid will play when we need another tall forward to replace Rusling, he may even play this week.

I don't need to be any more specific because our results speak for themselves, what about your spoon boy.

whats that one flag in 50 years, dont get ahead of yourself pal, you know how easy it is to get tripped up...we actually beat collingwood in our spoon year:p

The VFL is a good proving ground for players to take the next step to the AFL. From Hawthorn we've got Mitchell, Campbell, McGlynn, Clarke, Young, Osborne and Sewell who we rookied and who earnt their way onto the Hawks senior list through the Box Hill Hawks, I'd say it's a legitimate avenue to senior football.

It's a stretch to say Riewoldt is a dud just because Terry Tan hasn't played him in the seniors yet. His time will come and I'm sure he will acquit himself well.

admit it morgoth...you only started this thread because you thought you had a couple of easy laughs in "Hack Riewoldt" and "CON"

2nd year for the kid, not even 20 and he has regulary kicked goals in the seniors at VFL level including a couple of bags...

So where was the mighty Hack on Sunday? Surely this 'gun' should be able to get a game for a team that bad? Surely he is a better option than Shultz or Pitiful?

Did you see our Nathan Brown in action? Now that is a kid who is coming on in a team that might play finals. Guess what he was hardly a stand out at VFL but it was all about development for AFL.

On Nathan Brown did you see Heath destroy your version? Another player who never really showed much at Williamstown but was ready for AFL when we needed him.

We seem to be doing something right, you seem to be getting it wrong, yet somehow your development of players at Coburg is superior? :o
