Today we were equal with the Doggies till the half time break and the third quarter.

This is the biggest area of concern for me and has been for some time. When we are winning those of us where we sit mention it is sleep time for the boys. But when we are in a tight game this is the time of the match I dread. The fifteen minutes after the main break. Today it bit us hard.

What goes wrong and why would this happen???

Lack of seniority, kids can get disenchanted quickly.

We have to recognise when to switch from a zone to a man. We needed a man in the 3rd.

The hardest pill to swallow is that last year the third quarter was OURS. We used to come out after the main break and tear the opposition a new one. Remember Porps against the Roos?

I'm not unfamiliar with these 3rd quarter fadeouts, I remember 2-3 years ago we were having trouble in the 2nd quarters. We should be able to fix this pretty soon I guess.

one thing that has never changed in footy that is the 3rd qtr is the money qtr.

yes the Bullies were very good however our stoppage work and poor decision making and execution basically handed them an arm chair ride

half time, even ball game, 3 staright losses at AAMI and a hard run to follow, we should of put everything on the line

I can handle losing games on talent however I hate losing games due to a lack of desire

we lost this one due to a lack of desire in the 3rd qtr

I don't believe that our team hasn't got the "desire" to win. Never once would they set foot out on the park not wanting to give their best. For whatever reason, they weren't able to deliver, but I don't believe it was for lack of desire, particularly when you consider they fought back strongly in the last quarter. If there was no desire they would have stopped trying.

Knights said yesterday that the lack of intensity in the 3rd qtr cost us the game

IMO intensity is linked to desire and attitude

Or perhaps the Bulldogs desire and intensity was greater? ;)

you can desire something but without actions you will not achieve it, hence the drop off in intensity cost us that game. And all the others in which we have been competitve in for periods against the top four sides we have lost to,

Need to remember that, the four sides we have lost to are all top four sides. With two being undefeated. The only dubious top four side is Port who have not beaten a quality side yet. Our problem has been in all the games has been letting the other side dominate for small periods of a game where they kill us off.

Both teams were average in the first half. Poor disposals, turnovers and bad goal kicking. 5.10 each.

The Bulldogs got their act together in the 3rd, started hitting targets, won their share of clearances and cut us to shreds.

We maintained our average first half form.
