I am a big hammer fan and he played a great game last night in the ruck and occasionally up forward, i think that when warnock is fit we should have hammer and warnock in the ruck and kreuze as a permanent KP forward. congrats hammer:thumbsu:

Agreed :thumbsu:
I liked the look of hampson last night, especially with his dash through the middle and delivery into the forward line.
It will be exciting times when Kruezer is able to play permenantly up forward and give fevola a well deserved hand.

His 2 glaring faults have been his marking and tapping to advantage. The marking is improving with every game. The hitouts are currently a worry. Too often he clearly gets his hand to the ball but whacks it to the opposition or into no-man's land. It will come and our mid-fielders learning to rove better to him will certainly help. Kicking is fine, athleticism awesome, durability, speed and awareness first class. Go you HammerMan!

Improving with each and every game which is why it is important for us to leave him in the seniors for as long as possible.

His ball handling skills are improving as he gets more of it and he looks like he is gaining in confidence. His marks are beginning to stick in the hands which is promising.

In the ruck his huge leap is a great advantage because he can jump all over his opponents. He has a long way to go in terms of directing his taps but it wasn't so long ago that he struggled to get his hands on the ball at all.

He's got a long way to go but he's developing very nicely, without a doubt. With each and every game he does something that makes you think "how did he do that!?!". It won't be so long before he's doing that consistently in games.

How good was his handball receive from Kreuzer and run against the Lions. Looked like a gazelle. Had me very VERY excited :thumbsu: :D

He tapped it straight to Rich's advantage....which ended up with a goal. :o

I was shocked to see him move as fast as he did. We've all heard about his brilliant pace but I swear he looked barely human! Legs were a blur...

Clearly our number two ruckman. While Jacobs is a better tap ruckman at the moment, Hampson shows a lot of potential in that aspect of his game. Has no issues getting hands to the ball but as has been said, he's not directing it with much accuracy at the minute.

Seems to be taking one or two good marks a game and looks more comfortable every week. With his height, frame and vertical leap, there aren't many defenders who can match him in the air. Once he bulks up in the lower body, he'll be a true man mountain.

Earlier in the season many were saying he was still raw and had a lot to learn, that it'd be another year or two before he's capable of competing with any consistency at this level. His rate of improvement has been phenomenal and he's definitely not getting games for the sake of it - his performance warrant his selection in the side.

Scary thing is, given the position he plays and the length of time he's been playing the game, he's got as much improvement left in him as anybody on our list. Not long ago our ruck was a glaring weakness. Fast forward two years and we've got 3 of the game's most talented young ruckmen on our list. I'm excited. :thumbsu:

Or, could always try Hammer up forward at some stage in the future. With some more development, he could be a Fish Salmon and Buddy rolled into one.

Have loved this big guy since the day we drafted him - huge potential. speed, athleticism, determination... the marks are coming, and the taps will get there. his plus side is just huge.

look at everyone jumping on.... ;)

he and kreuze will play in our next grand final. :thumbsu:

Good point, AD. Hamster is a hell of an intimidating nick.

What's the story about his sporting background? I heard he was a soccer goal keeper and then someone mentioned Volleyball. Any one like to enlighten us?

Soccer, some contention as to whether he was a striker or keeper...i thought striker.

Mitch Clark was an elite level volleyballer....hell I'd kill for either of them on my vb team :)

Forget playing Warnock in the ruck and Kreuzer forward with Hampson on the bench...

Play Hammer on the wing or as a HFF like Richardson. :D

That was just incredible to watch the big giraffe receive the ball from Kreuzer, take off and kick it on the run lace out to Fevola.

Smart play by Hampson who didn't blaze away and go for goal, but measured the kick on the run to a teammate. :thumbsu:

How can a guy that big kick on the run and hit the target when he's the fastest player on our list?

Freak.

What I really like about Hampson is that he's not just relying on his athleticism like other freak athlete busts of the past. He's actually working hard on the nuances of the game, taking small strides each week and learning how to be a footballer as well as an athlete. In this regard, I think the club should also be applauded for the way they've handled his development cause I'm sure there would have been temptation to just get him out on the ground as a forward - something that I think would have ultimately hindered his ability to make the most of his athleticism.

No matter what his ultimate peak is, I think we can say at this stage that he's unlikely to be a bust.
