Hampson

His splattered mark, fumble on the ground and then bad handball was definitely one play that came to mind as soon as I saw this thread.

Far from his best game this year, looks to be putting his hand up to make way for Waite if he ever gets out on the park again.

None of our ruckmen can play a permanent forward role.
They are just awful at reading the flight of the ball coming in to the forwards.

The thing that did me tonight was allowing West to mark almost in the goal square without even trying to stop him. The guy is a pea heart.

He could be anything, unfortunately that includes looking damn awful, time will tell. but at his best he is dangerous, at his worst...

news is not good on waite. unlikely to play for sometime if at all this year.

Does anyone think he can play besides Ratten?

Absolutely. He needs to be in the 22 for the rest of the season. Was undoubtedly one of the most improved over the first month or so of the season. Has dropped off but that's more to do with the team dropping off than his football ability.

Be realistic. He is 24 now, how long can you allow someone to be shit before they start to develop. The reason why he still gets a game is because people think he has ability, being big isn't an ability

We continue to hold onto players that always let you down when you most need them... Russell, Bower, Thornton and now Hampson.

Can't drop him if warnock is out and kruze isn't rucking/carrying injury. He had a stinker tonight but overall his season has been ok. No one was sledging him when he was kicking goals against the pies!

Dud of epic proportions. Hope he requests a trade at years end, don't care if we get a fifth rounder for him. You can't live on potential for 6 years, he should be in his prime but is playing like he is in his 2nd year. He will never dominate the ruck and will never kick bags of goals, he may have the odd good game and kick 3 but that is the most you will ever get out of him. A key position forward, that's what the MC are trying to make him into, needs to consistantly kick 3 goals a game, he will never ever do that week in week out.

Not going to bother mentioning his marking:oops::oops::oops:

Hampson is OK, I think attention should be drawn on 'top 4' players like Jamison, Judd, Kruezer and Walker. They are just not imposing on games in recent weeks like they should be.

Jamison and Walker are coming off interupted pre-seasons and it shows. .. Kreuze is carrying a niggle. .. Judd isn't in Judd-like form at the moment but you'd rather have him on the park than off it. ..

As for Hammer didn't see a lot of tonight but well worth persisting with, especially at the moment. ..

he's just an average player but we really need to learn to kick to advantage when we kick long. Hampson and Kreuzer really struggle to hold their ground in marking contests, they've been in the system long enough that this should no longer be an issue. Hampson is worth persisting with until someone like Casboult, Rowe or Mitchell steps up.

Hampson is definately servicable, not every team can have a gun in every position.
he takes the best defender even tho his ability doesnt dictate it. frees the other forwards up.
we tend to forget that geelond played for years with mooney as there only key forward and he isn't an elite forward by any standard. (regardless of premiership medals and all australian awards)

Hampson might take the best defender when the ball is coming into our fwd 50, but after he spills an easy mark he's no where to be seen as the ball gets moved up the other end of the ground at breakneck speed.

Mooney was ten times the player Hampson will ever be as well.
