I think that Carlton demonstrated on Sunday against Melbourne just how poor our skills can be. We over used our handballs and the were just awfull. They barely hit the target and they were often too low and/or too soft. It is the case in most other weeks as well, we go for too many handballs and they just barely ever pay off. What ever happened to the attacking game style of getting it and just slamming it on ur boot and kicking it long?

Thoughts?

we are no doubt the worst handballing team in the comp!

- Handballs are too high or too low for the running past player.
- Hospital style handpasses
- A lot of completely missing the target

Saddington is a major offender in previous weeks. But lately more and more of players just cant hit the target or come close!

That's because they have no composure and they think there under pressure.

it was all about the last kick on the weekend. We had far more opportunities than Melbourne, but didn't finish them off. I'm not unhappy with that, because sometimes shit happens. The facts are that 22 players gave it everything (not sure about Scotland) and we had every opportunity to win. That's better than what we have seen for a few weeks.

BUMP ...

I can report that Heath Scotland has won through to the semi-finals of the Handball comp on the Sunday Footy show, so our handball skills seem to have improved considerably since the OP :D

I am with you Reg. Felt that our use of the ball was very poor. Also that for much of the game we lacked composure. I think much of it is related to how we set up. So many times there was just Fev in the forward 50 so players would look up to Fev and about 4-5 demons. Think this has also conditioned many players to hold onto the ball and go short or handball even when there are more options and a long kick would be the best option. Some players like Judd and even Robertson when fit are more intuitive but overall we are a very mechanical and restricted unit most weeks.

Haha was about to say it's thankfully not the time of Dennis Pagan anymore, until I realised it was a bumped thread, and back then it indeed was :p

Just realised this was a 2007 thread. I still feel the same about what I wrote though. Thought we were very ordinary today and still feel the best games we have played were in losses to Hawthorn and ST.Kilda. We have a list that is getting more talented but are still not playing a brand of footy that does justice to the talent we have.

we had 523 possestions yesterday and handballed 230 odd times... i dont mind the handball shows that we are actually running for each other helping each other out

Frankly Polly Farmer and Greg Williams were the two best 'users' of the handball the game has ever seen (and probably ever will be)
