I thought he deserved his own thread.

He has been sensational this year - going from strength to strength. Many predicted he would take his game to the next level after last year's finals series and particularly the grand final.

Thankfully, he didn't just sit back and accept that great final performance, but, from all reports, entered the preseason as fit as ever and seems driven to really make his mark on the league. He has really put to shame those commentators who suggested that he was a Rhys Palmer-type rising star winner who had very little improvement left in him.

He's courageous, a natural leader and selfless. Terrific qualities for a young player.

His stats this year are also very impressive:

27.17 disposals (up from 23.84)
10.83 contested possessions (up from 8.72)

He's also averaging a goal a game.

Hanners loves playing against the Hawks. I seem to recall a game a few years ago at the G when everyone first stood up to take notice - he kicked 2/3 goals, including one from 50 after taking a number of bounces, and had a tonne of the ball.

Here's hoping he steps up again on the big stage.

Good call, every ounce a Blood to the core, has a great cool about his game, always composed and always seems to take the right option, that goal he kicked in the GF last year, very under rated given the circumstances,
Future captain....

Love Hanners.

Ever since he stepped onto the field for his debut game he's been nothing but inspirational. His game lacked polish at first which is only natural given such a big step up in intensity, but his endeavour never wavered.

That's why he's the player he is today, because the boy doesn't know anything less than 100%.

Bookies are reporting that money is starting to flow in consistently for Hanners on the Brownlow in the last week or two.

A bit of that is going to be there own laying off to steady the books but still a guide to how well the punters think he's going.

Surely if he continually plays to the level of which he currently is, he'd be contention for All Australian?

Amazing performance from a 19 year old!

Another 10 votes in the Coaches Award, he's now coming second, three votes behind Ablett (Kizza coming third another 3 votes behind)

By the end of his career he will definitely have a few. but the all australian squad, because of the selection panel do not mean much. they are biased and dont give all players consideration. They also have players that get in because of past seasons.

He is an absolute star though. if he was in a vic based club, he would be as big a name as cotchin, m murphey etc..... On form, i think he is one of the better onballers in the AFL this year :)

He signed a contract extension didnt he?

Hannebery will be one of the few Swans not affected by pro-Vic bias ... his on-field toughness, emphasised to the entire AFL community in the GF, is now recognised by those who'll be voting ... if he continues in current form, including the goal-kicking, I'd be quite confident he'll be AA this season. The likes of Cotchin, a genuine star, are already being criticised for not kicking goals, so Hannebery is doing everything right in that regard.

I have been of the opinion for a year or so that Hannebery is at least the equal of Murphy, Swan (gets more contested ball than Swan), Beams, etc, and this year he's as good as any bar possibly Ablett and Dangerfield, who on pure football talent may be the best player in the competition right now.

I'd have Hannebery with Ablett and Dangerfield in the AA midfield right now, and Kennedy/McVeigh certainly in discussions, with the other usual suspects, Selwood, Pendlebury, etc ... anyone want to argue?

His heroism in the Grand Final backing into the pack will, unfortunately, be heralded as the making of his name, while in reality this action is routine not exemplary for the courageous Hannebery (and perhaps should have been lauded as such). He will replace McVeigh as captain at the appropriate time for both.

I think Ablett is in a class of his own, so i agree with you there but this season Hanners, in my opinion has been as, if not more consistent then Dangerfield. Just from what I have read (as i dont watch many adelaide games)

I see pretty much every game every weekend; Dangerfield is a sensational footballer. That's not reflection at all on Hannebery.

Kirky took the place in my heart left cold and void by Kelly. Bolts took that place after Kirkys departure... Hanners will take that place when Bolts goes. Noone emphasises the Bloods more than these men IMO. Hanners should be our future captain (Jack and Hanners would be a wicked co-capt pairing) when Macca calls it. I can't count the amount of times I've seen Hanners certainly broken, not going to get back onto the field with that hit... Sure enough, 10 minutes later there he is flying backwards with the flight into the oncoming pack... The boy has the kind of courage that has made our club.
