COLLINGWOOD defender Harry O'Brien has revealed he saw a murder in his native Brazil in 2011.

The 26-year-old said the traumatic experience saw him lose faith in the world and affected his on-field performance last year.

"Christmas Day 2011, I watched someone get murdered," O'Brien revealed on SEN radio on Monday.

"One day I'll be able to share more."

While not wanting to blame the experience for his below par form, O'Brien said he found it difficult to focus.

"Just coming back to Australia after Christmas, and seeing the contrast in life, and people complaining about the pettiest things, I just lost so much faith in the world really," he said.

But he said he is now the fittest he's ever been and once again "loving" football.

"It was a real grind last year, but I've got through that, I've learnt what I've needed to from that experience," O'Brien said.

"We all face tragedies, we all have demons in our life, and we have to face them at some stage, but unfortunately most people don't."

O'Brien had 24 disposals and took eight marks in Collingwood's 16-point win over North Melbourne.

I had heard he had witnessed a murder. Would **** with me a bit too.
Man where the hell is Harry hanging out in Brazil.... ive been many times and for extended stays and never saw anything close to the sort... apart from some car theft..... i hope he is not making his way into the slums.... for any of you that go stay away from the slums!!!!!

Being the victim is highly overrated too, in my experience.
Indeed, I went looking for a clip of Sylvester the cat on y/tube to embed but can't find it.

The one where Sylvester is trying to get a job & has the greatest circus trick of all time.

To cut a long story short, he drinks a crap load of volatile liquids, swallows a match & explodes.

As his ghost drifts off the employer says "Wow what a fantastic trick, the best ever, you're hired."
Sylvester says "It's a great trick but you can do it only once."

I am pretty sure he makes a point of going to the slums. I think he may have even taken one of the boys there, maybe Johnson.

Ohh, he definitely took his johnson.

As one should when traversing the globe... A necessary companion for most occasions.
I rarely let go of it to tell you the truth ATM.

That's probably because it's unemployed right now.:(

Greatest player to put on a Collingwood jumper ever, that includes Bucks.

Look my johnson has done some sterling work but I wouldn't compare it to bucks career.

So he's now been held at gunpoint and witnessed a murder, to go through that and still be as strong as he is... It's amazing!
I was one that called for Harry's head last year and i think we should all owe him an apology as sometimes you just don't know what people are going through.

He had a ripper of a match yesterday and here's hoping for more of the same!

Watched Harry O really closley on Sunday really impressed with him. Plays the wing good. The amount of times he was streaming in the foward 50. Hopfully a good year for Harry.

He visits the slums in Rio because his mum comes from there - I think. And his dad is from Africa. But you all know this already. By all accounts Johnno was challenged by the - shall we say - toilet facilities when he accompanied H to the favelas. I am going to Rio in May, but only for a few days. I'm too chicken to visit the favelas.

Wonder if he seen it up close or from afar. Would have been terrible no matter what, but just interesting.

According to the story in the HUN today, it was a driver who'd been shot and then crashed his car, and Harry couldn't help him. Would be very rough on him.
