Thanks Champ. :thumbsu:

DeBoer as sub is a no brainer IMO.

Surely we'd be better off having him for the full game? Much like with Hill and Mundy last week who were considered underdone. Getting 3 quarters out of de Boer and then substituting him if he can't handle it would be better than getting 1 and a bit quarters out of him.

From memory - far out I remember some useless things - we averaged 74 tackles in our away games last season. On Saturday night we had 58 tackles. The pressure de Boer applies would account for a fair proportion of those IMO.

The problem there is that if someone goes down in the first half forcing our hand we're stuck with quite a few underdone players.

Better to start deBoer as sub and bring him in at half time if we get through 2 quarters without an injury.

There are problems whichever way you look at it really. If you make the substitution at half time you may get an injury 1 minute into the 3rd quarter and be left one player down as well. Each scenario has its positives and negatives but neither is more or less likely. It's all hypothetical.

De Boer played a full game in the WAFL last week and he completed the majority of the pre-season. Is he any less fit than say Hill or Mundy were heading into last week? We don't exactly rely on de Boer winning the ball and making the play either. He should still be able to do all the defensive work even if he's a little bit 'off' with the game speed.

At any rate I'd only have de Boer and Ibbotson - assuming Ibbo even plays - as underdone heading into the Cats game. That's no different to last week where we carried Mundy and Hill into the game with question marks. Plus we had Pitt making his debut as well.

Yeah, I agree with the principle of easing back injured players through the sub.

In principal I agree with it, I just think it depends on the situation. Barlow, Hayden and Mzungu would have missed a lot of footy so I'd look at easing them back in as a substitute - after a few full-time WAFL games. Players like Hill, Mundy and de Boer on the other hand are only questionable from an AFL match fitness perspective. Ibbotson probably sits somewhere in the middle.

although thisa is not on the exact subject, it is about 6PR.

I listened as i drove up from Albany to the eagles Kangas game on the weekend and sure enough that tool Karl Langdon was commentating.

Karl Langdon knows all the eagles players names off by heart however everytime a North Melb. player had the ball he called them by the team name not their actual name. On the odd acasion he said 'I think that is Zeibal with the ball'.

Karl Langdon if you dont know the players on the oposition teams you should not be commentating on radio. Leave it to the profesionals who dont also sound biased one eyed supporters of their team.

I will never listen to 6PR again and its all 720 for me.

Do not agree with bringing back a previously injured player as the sub. Will we want DeBoer to play at least half a game, making the substitute at half time is a huge risk, considering the majority of injuries occur in the second half of footy. In my opinion the sub should strictly be there in case of an injury (as it was brought in for), if you get to 3/4 time and you still have everyone out on the park then that's where a tactical substitution is an option. Take it any earlier and your taking a massive risk in my opinion, having the full rotations in the 4th quarter is essential to running a game out.

If he is fit play him in the 21!
