NOT ****IN' MAN.URE!!
...this recent "can't win a flag with a dominant FF /100 goal kicker" theory.. led by David Parkin..who again bought it up on The Insiders in his old fart in an armchair segment last night...and being parroted by many in the media has conveniently coincided with Richmond's full forward and leading the Coleman Medal?

Am I just being paranoid or is it yet another example of certain elements in the media subtly undermining the confidence of Richmond and it's supporters? I mean where were all these comments in 2008 with Franklin & Hawthorn...Carlton used to cop a bit for being too focused on Fev....but no-one wrote them off as future Premiers over it....and indeed most of the media expressed reservations over Carlton's chances without him this year.

Curious timing methinks.:thumbsd:

Dunno about the conspiracy theory Mario but on Parkin's "can't win a flag with a dominant 100 goal full forward" rant it's simply crap.

Drop a Coleman medalist into a good side and they can threaten for a flag...
Drop a Coleman medalist into a shit side and they are still a shit side... just one with a guy who kicks a lot of goals!

Justa ******* theory . But i think the point is for us is that i do not see JR being your 100 goal a year ff anyway . Its about combinations

Ditch Roughhead and stand Frankiln in the goalsquare and he'll kick a hundred .

Ditch Lynch/Bradshaw/Fevola and stand a fit Jon Brown in the goalsquare and he kicks a 100 every year

But with both those examples those sides are (and were) much better when they have/had thier multiple options up and about . This is where Griffiths will be so improtant to us if he develops as expected .

Riewoldt will not be the player Parkin is describing for us going forward , if we can get a combination of those two kicking 100-120 a year between them consistently we will be a very powerful unit .

Well Parko started all this in relation to Jack's 10 goals....and it's been parroted a few times since...yet according to the media at the start of the season Carlton were ****ed without Fev and the addition of Hall had Footscray flag-bound.... can you see the double-standard?

The media chop and change opinions on a regular basis, week by week these supposed experts contradict themselves so much it's hilarious and that applies to all football experts. The media put too much emphasis on the last thing they saw and most of them are lazy journo's.

I dont think Ratten would appreciate Parkins story about the phone call from Ratten on Foxtel.

"Hey David, where do I get my 70-80 goals now Ive decided to let Fevola go"

Ive made a decision that I cant back up with my own judgement.

Parko looking to be relevant.

The inconsistency of these blokes is laughable. Bazzars list would shut a few up and chuck Buddy in as well.
No paranoia Mario, it's everywhere. These blokes have carried grudges thru their careers based on a time when Tiges were a powerhouse. It renders them incapable of objective thought. Listen to Shaw and Taylor on 3aw...it's as clear as a bell. It's a weekend ritual at my place to expose T Shaw for the lazy, biased commentary he trots out. Hilarious.

ah stats schmats you can make em say what you like. the trouble is the so called 4th estate nowadays abuse them more than anyone.

Ridiculous rant by Parko following jack's 10. What was he/we supposed to do? Miss a few sitters and only kick 5 or 6? If he had, then he'd be bagging him for being the poor cousin. If he had have said something like - Tigers just need to develop on or two support options to Riewoldt and then they'll be off and running. But that's not provocative enough. The joke is at that point of time Parko probably had no idea of Griffiths capabilities or Astbury's or Post. Admittedly all 3 still have it all in front of them and are looking more like 20-30 goal per year forwards right now, but it would be reasonable to acknowledge they have the raw potential to provide the options he is warning us about.

...and compare it to the media's reaction to Le Cras' 11 goals...no backhanders or tempered remarks, nothing but unqualified praise...for a player in the bottom side as we were at the time of Jack's bag...in fact they're still banging on about it...

If the current "natural arc" controversy with Franklin applied to Riewoldt...there wouldn't be any debate..there would be an almost unanimous opinion that he was gaining an unfair advantage...

If one of our players carried on like Didak did with his "shimmy" after kicking a similar goal, instead of unbridled adulation, he would be universally condemned for "lairising" and being disrespectful to the opposition...

Problem is we're not a current contender, not a franchise, don't have a celebrity president, loudmouth "legend" coach or support from the big end of town and the establishment, there aren't enough "important people" or cronies who'll get to ride the gravy train if we become successful, so we're the perfect option for the media to marginalise and keep down...safe, with no real fear of any repercussions...

sorry to interrupt champs

its ludicrous because geelong were effective with a spread of goalkickers and so it was that hey we dont need to have a tall and strong dominant forward line with one potent forward.

as soon as the lions declined and port struggled in their premiership defence in 2005, it came to sydney and west coasts tight games, based on great midfields.

till geelong then hawthorn in 2008

1988 dunstall
1989 dunstall
1991 sumich (100)
1994 ablett
1995 ablett
1996 lockett
1997 ok didnt play but got them there (modra)
2000 lloyd
2001 lloyd
2008 franklin

his argument is not valid, but it holds a little bit of value when using this comparison

1990 no dominant forward
1992 no dominant forward
1993 no dominant forward
1998 no dominant forward
1999 no dominant forward
2002 no dominant forward
2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 and 2009

it is 50/50

if fev had gone to the eagles 5 years ago they would have won 2005, 2006 and 2007
its a matter of been at the right club at the right time.

parko is full of shit

Hey guys, if you feel pissed off take comfort knowing that Robert Walls is even more annoyed that Parko found a unique way to bag us before he did.

Oh well, same shyte different day. Been saying for a long time Parko and Tony Shaw have a hate for our club means f@#k all, but the issue I have is they are paid to give non biased comments and opinions for tv and radio stations. Which they do not do:thumbsd:

There are alot out there.

Richmond hate is all around which is good because when we are big again and winning games each week,I will be watching these clowns with a big Tiger grin on my face.

Stupid comments by Parko. Most premiership sides have key players and if one of those players happen to be a forward then there is a chance they could be a 100 goal kicker if they have a good season.

And my argument for him would be if Nick Riewoldt was a 100goal kicker, i mean if he could kick straight, st kilda would've won a flag.
