well i won my last league game and then a friendly, but at the moment in another friendly im 4-0 down at halftime!

Training ive changed week to week, first defence, then stamina and now ive just changed it to short passes at 80%.

What do you recommend?

Got to find either one of playmaking, winger or strikers to train and stick with it for a few seasons with only switching for 1 or 2 weeks in the off season to give your trainees stamina. I trained defense for about 2.5 seasons. The only positive thing about training defense is that you get more training slots than any other training area. You get 10 with defending. Downside is that you are limited to 5-4-1 and 5-3-2 formations which takes a lot away from your attack. As far as recommending something, i'd say any of playmaking, winger or scoring. Because as far as i know, once you get a really strong midfield, defense doesnt matter as much as you will be winning too much of the ball in the middle of the park for the opposing team to get any chances on goal. Thats how i understand it.

I've been tempted to join for a couple of years and this thread has been the motivation to do so. It seemed a good time with the season just ending as well.

I played my first friendly just then and lost 2-0 with a fine 24% possession for the match. I suppose I better get used to it. :(

Its a good time to buy trainees too :) before they jump up a year in age in a week. What division did you go in? V or VI? Team ID? What are you training?

FC Crouchzinho (417294) in VI.30

I've started training defence as well.

I've bought a keeper so far and I'm halfway through the Licence Challenge.

Because I'm training defenders does that mean I should now buy defenders or I should look at buying midfielders and forwards?

You should have 10 17 or 18 year old defenders to train for defending, 17 year olds are really cheap at the moment cause its end of season and they actually turn 18 in a week or so. Its not all that bad for starting out, new 17 year olds that come onto the market after the player ages go up will be 2-3 times more than what they are now cause its the end of season. So i think loading yourself up with 17 year olds now would be good.

Best ones to get would be passable defenders with good passing, inadequate or better (passing becomes useful for the counter-attack tactic). Actually pretty much you'll need 6 central defenders and 4 wingbacks, wingbacks will need a good level of the winger stat, so perhaps passable in both defending and winger area would be good. Try getting some defenders with no lower than 700 in TSI.

Why 10 trainees? Because to get maximum out of training defending you play 5 in a friendly and 5 in the league and also swap formations too, like 5-4-1 in the friendly and 5-3-2 in the league.

I just had a look on the transfer market, 17 year old passable defenders with passable passing are going for around 50k it seems, so very cheap.

Once you get 10 defenders in your squad then you can start looking at strengthening other areas of your squad.

I joined the site last week and today had my first Friendly against a friend who join last week aswell, I dominated play with around 68% but still only managed a 1 all draw:mad: , My mate scored the first in the first min and i scored the second in the second min then that was it. My team had plenty of shots but couldnt convert:thumbsd: . Anyone on here want to have a Friendly? wouldnt mind going up against a good team to see what my squad plays against them:) .

ill keep that in mind thanks Ed
i played another friendly the other day, some random guy asked me, maybe so his strikers could have shooting practice
4-0 at half time
6-0 after 90mins, i had about 22% possession or something

If you are just starting out in a low division, then train playmaking and play a 3-5-2 formation.

Even without any more science than that you should be able to get promoted twice in 3-4 seasons.

Midfield is king in Hatrick despite years of rule changes.

Buy 17-18 year old midfielders. Then train them in playmaking and in stamina everynow and again. Sell them, but new trainees, sell them etc. Use your profits on buying the strikers and defenders you need. In the lower leagues you barely need any defence or attack at all.

Don't be upset by big 5-0 losses. Basically it is not 'real' just a game, and any mismatch will end up in a thumping. Just shrug it off.

Play a friendly AND a league match every week. Train 10 players every week.

I should probably add that you will need to buy a coach. Most teams starting out get weak coaches or so. Buy a passable trainer with poor leadership. Should only cost around 160k or so (well thats what i bought when i first started). It is pretty essential as the better the coach the quicker players level up in skill. i think it takes an extra week for every level below passable you have.

PyroTechnics (77408) is my team name and number as well. If anyone wants a friendly in the future. I think i posted it on the other page? Oh well.

Also, the main importance of friendlies is to come out of the game with NO injuries to trainees. Result doesn't mean anything, unless you are after bragging rights over a mate or something :P

Have been playing this for I think 10 seasons and got pretty much nowhere, my original stars are now ageing so these past few seasons ive been floating between divisions V and VI. Need to change tactics and go on a real youth policy instead of continuing to buy in players.
If anyone wants a friendly this is me - Pro Punkers (77274)

hi lads,

gday dyertribe, thnx for mentioning me in here mate! I has no idea there were so many hattrickers on BF.

Seems there a lots of ppl just starting out. Simple philosophy, focus on training to begin with and dont worry so much abt results. train the same skill for a few seasons then sell em off and start over again with new trainees and spend the rest of the cash on upgrading the rest of ur side. You'll need to do this process 2-3 times before youre team really starts to kick in. Its a game of patience and try and bolster that midfield especially in the beginning, will make life a helluva lot easier!

Thanks to everyone whose voted for me :) and if any of u guys havent voted in the election check out my election speech and if you think i can do the job send a vote my way

cheers!

Damn, i wish i had of known! I ended up voting for someone else.

If anyone has 500k to spare.

Hope to get at least 1mil for him, we'll see though. TSI took a massive dent when he copped a 5 week injury towards the end of last season, i put 25 doctors in (as i had another trainee injured for 4 weeks as well) but it didnt prevent him losing about 900 TSI.

Once hes fully healed hed get back all his "lost" tsi, the drop would only be from form :). and if hes a trainee Id strongly suggest u hold onto him and train him longer, hes a good prospect!

....and i really hate doing this but i'll do it anyway :D , U can change ur vote anytime until the monday deadline

U need to sell some of your old has beens, buy urself 6 18 y/o excellent IM's, a passable or solid coach and play 3-5-2 in league and friendly games - 3 IM's in the league and the other 3 in the friendly. Within 3 seasons they will be about WC or supernats and you can make some serious cash selling them. Not to mention u will start winning a fair few more games in the process.

He has been fully healed for 2 or so weeks, but the last 2 weeks ive actually spent training stamina which took his to solid, get a bit more value out of him i hope. What do you think i'll get?

And i'll change my vote too ;)

EDIT: Already got an opening bid on the wingback ;P

you beat me to the punch :), i just finished editing my last post saying that if hes a trainee I really think u should hold onto him and train longer (unless you are going to change training type to another skill)

As for what price, the market has become fairly unpredictable the past several seasons and I have never been an expert on defender trainees ;) but I'd be stunned if you didnt get 500k for him, somewhere between 500k and 1 mill seems about right to me, but dont take my word on that

Edit: good stuff :P hopefully u get a fair few more ;)

Well i had only just got him really when i decided i was sick of training defenders, decided on training wingers instead, but i think it would be too much effort training him up from inadequate. And besides, i have 5 players over 30 now, so i figure i may as well start replacing them with outstandings or higher with the money i get from the sale of Lata.

more brilliant advice, this time from the Oceanian Cup Champion and hopefully the "new Guss", i voted for you mate, us bigfooty hattrickers gotta stick together :P

ive started training as playmaking which is like CM yeah? i guess i have to wear some pain to get some gain, even though i would like to win every game
how long does it take for your players to go from rubbish to half decent? i have few players with a 'passable' attribute most are below that
do you get a player from the youth academy every week? and is there anything which tells you that your players have improved through training? or do you just have to notice the difference?

sorry to ramble on but one last question, do you change your training every week? or just keep it the same for weeks on end?

Its probably better to train the same thing weeks on end. With only changing to perhaps stamina or passing training in the off-season, (Which has just finished.)

Use this: http://www.lokesoftware.dk/ham/index.htm its a little program which is very useful for hattrick. Which shows up when your players have gone up a level, how much training they've had etc...

Yes you get a youth pull from your academy. It reopens every Saturday morning.

Yup playmaking is pretty much CM. Well if you are training playmaking with a passable coach, 17 year olds only take i think its 7 weeks? I cant remember exactly.

Hattrick is a game about patience as well as working out what tactics can overcome your opponent, by looking at what formations they play.

yeah i know all about patience, i play LLM on Champ Man and FM

i got a passable coach with thanks from you (i think)
ill just stick to playmaking this season, and so far every week i have got a player from the youth academy, so if they get half decent i play sell them unless they play well

how long did it take most people here to get promoted from the bottom league?
