I just had my best hattrick result.

Ended up beating the top placed team in my league 2-1. He was undefeated and had a +48 goal difference going into the game.

He had 81% possession in the first half and 89% possession in the second half so he might be entitled to feel slightly aggrieved. :D

My skill level in counter-attacking is outstanding so I thought I could be competitive but that win has just made my day. Especially after having to put up with the crap served by Southampton every week.

I played one of the bottom teams, went 1 down after 5 mins, equalised not long after, banged in two in injury time and then another two in the second half for a 5-1 win. 9 points off top with 2 games left and the top team this week at home, i will be happy if i can get one more win and secure third

Good result. Very good result.

I lost my first game of the season 4-3. The team i played against was 2nd and he done a MOTS against me, he was 4-0 up after 30 minutes i think. I got it back to 4-3 after 65 i think. But couldn;t get an equaliser. But alas, im still in the auto-promotion zone which is good.

I'm still 4 points clear anyway with 2 games i will win, so ill still promote.

Wow!!! I started this thread last year and havent been on BF for a while (too busy on the Hattrick Transfer market:) ). I had no idea that there were so many BF'ers into HT. Most of you guys seem to be noobs. I am in my 4th season now after winning my Div 6 last season and getting promoted. Should be safe mid table this season although I reckon I am in a pretty tough Div v (V.189). My best general advice to all the noobs is that this is a long term game, dont be too worried about week to week results. Div 6 aint too bad, I had mates get promoted out of an easy Div VI league full of bots and then got smashed every week in the Div v they went up to. Season ended with them going straight back down, losing members etc etc. Use the time in Div vi to start up your training regime.

I doubted the whole training strategy 3 seasons ago when I started it and last week I sold a trainee (18 yo oustanding playmaker with no secondaries) for $3m. Definately the way to go, bought the guy as a solid for $360K at this time last season.

Out of interest I'd love to know what tools people use. Because I do a lot of my analysis at work I prefer to use the web based manager tools, but I have copies of HAM and Hattrick Statistics at home.

I mostly use:

Virtual Hattrick Organizer (VHO)

Hattrick Web Manager; and

Hattrix-files (to dig up dirt on next week's opponent and pre-plan the matchups).

Oh and I voted for TigerTuff, along with all the other guys on the MelbourneHT conference I assume.

Just need some advice lads:

Been training playmaking had 4 pops today. Three of them are:

My best trainee went from solid to excellent. He is 18 yo.

Another two 18 yos went from passable to solid.

Shoud I sell all these three now as they will age soon? Is it better to sell now or are players so aware that they are not prepared to buy players near season's end?

I'd keep them til they are at least 20 or so. They have more market value then. And yes, people are aware that trainees are about to age soon, so its not really worth selling them now as you wouldn;t get much for them.

I'd hang onto them.

I use Hattrick Organiser and find it a great help. Not only for keeping track of my trainees but the team analyser is good for new teams like my own to learn about the different tactics to use depending on how the opposition lines up.

I also use the SimSpectator program to get an estimate of the next home games attendance. I'm still in debt so it's nice to have an idea of how much money will be coming in each fortnight.

Won my game today 5-2 and need to win my final game of the season to auto promote. Making it MOTS but it means I will start next season really low.

Apparently most people will MOTS in the last game because team spirit is reset at the end of the season so it makes sense to use it unless you have a qualifier the following week. Therefore you better make sure you win otherwise you'll be stuffed in the qualifier. ;)

My team won 7-0 today against a team in their first match. Unless other results go my way I'll probably finish 4th but I'm just rapt to win 9 or 10 games in my first season. With the top team auto promoting and the second placed team two weeks from becoming inactive I reckon I'm a big chance of getting promoted next season. It just might be smarter to get out of debt and spend the cash on a solid coach rather than strengthening my weak midfield and challenging for promotion.

Yep. Team Spirit is reset. You are almost expected to MOTS as a courtesy to other teams in your league. No one likes getting relegated because someone decided to PIC and throw a game for no good reason. Bad Karma that.

Definately. There is a Goldilocks-type art to getting promoted without spending too much money needlessly. So many teams romp to a title with a mega team and only find themselves having to sell just when they should be looking to buy.

The Dead Set Losers are officially relegated from Div II :( , fun while it lasted, but hopefully we can bounce back up if we can find some money down the back of the couch for the one midfielder we need.

LAst game of the season this weekend. Whats everyone going to train in the off season? I'm thinking of continuing my winger training for 1 week, then stamina for the other. Considered passing, but since i am training that for at least half a season i nthe near future, ill leave it til then.

Also, dont forget to MOTS your last game kids. :p

On a good note, div V here i come! I have my league wrapped up, now i only hope i get placed in an easy one. Not one where i will end up coming straight back down.

Less matches means less training spots. Means teams normally change it up training set pieces, stamina or maybe even passing. Stamina is dangerous as it can kill your form early in next season.

Thanks, think I might go with passing.

Yeah awesome, i havent had a proper offseason so cheers for advice boys.
Do passing/stamina etc improve quicker than PM? obviously EVERY player would get trained for this too?

ill be MOTS after seeing ed's advice, i should have a win and guarantee third spot

oh and how long does the offseason go for?

Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but stamina usually takes 1 training week to pop, so most players should pop, some may not however. But i'd say of the couple of occassions i've done it, around 70-75% of my players pop, the downside is that they can suffer to losing some form as well.

Passing takes 4 or 5 weeks (i'm pretty sure?) to pop, (not sure what you train?) and its a good secondary skill to have on trainees. It adds to the attack on midfielders and is good for counter-attacks on defenders. And you can make a crap load more on players with inadequate or better in passing on the transfer market. People usually pay a premium for it.

Off season goes for 2 weeks.

What a match winner and Im promoted.

Excellent. I found out i've been promoted into V.219. And just looking at it, i think i have the squad to finish 3rd or 4th.

The hit to form from stamina training isn't too bad. Stamina is absolutely vital for midfielders, almost as important as playmaking. Very hard to win in HT if you don't win the midfield. If you are fielding midfielders with lower than solid training, you'd be mad not to train stamina.

If you are training playmakers you MUST train stamina. The chances are you are buying cheap passable/solids to train. You then are trying to sell them after a couple of pops to higher-league / richer clubs.

In my case I can't buy a midfielder (playmaker) with less than solid stamina. That is because my whole squad has excellent stamina. To train stamina I would be training just 1 bloke - which is a waste.

I generally train 1 week of stamina (if I have guys who are candidates to improve) and 1 week of set pieces.

In the offseason you can only train half as many guys because there are no league games for 2 weeks. Good time for set piece training because you aren't sacrificing too much.

If you are training short-passing remember that 2-5-3 is a legal training formation (just not legal for formation experience). I train through-passes and play either a 4-5-1 or in some cases a 5-5-0 which is again legal for training. That way you train 10 guys.

Passing is good if you can take the time for it. Lets you play counter-attacking if your defenders can pass. Is the secondary for strikers. Is good for midfielders, and lets you set your CM to offensive. Helps everyone and others have said people are prepared to pay for it in the transfer market (because they are not prepared to train it themselves).
