Hawkins has been the GO TO MAN this year.
He has played 18 games, kicked 43 goals to date and an average of 66 fantasy points per game
He is an experienced player having played

Josh has played 15 games, has kicked 16 goals and an average of 53 fantasy points per game
He is inexperienced and has spent heaps of time on the bench. It would be interesting to compare the game time they have each has had.

Keep in mind Josh would have natural improvement because of his young age.

Most posters are in a rush to get rid of Walker but I get the feeling that Hawkins has tapered off more than Walker towards the end of the season. Also Walker has shown he can perform in important games.

Are we over rating Hawkins? I am not saying he had a worse season than Walker but only that we should not be to quick to judge.

The Hawks would have 4 players who have kicked more than Hawkins this season and he would not be in the top 20 goal kickers this year. Spotlight is not on him but maybe it should be especially after his lackluster performance this week. Based on this year a mediocre year from a mediocre forward. No chase and appears dis-interested. Is he injured, lost interest or just off the pace?

If Walker goes we have 2 injury plagued players who may be able to replace him??

Have you considered Walker's man is sagging off to double team Hawkins cause they don't respect Walker?
and at present why would they respect him?

Hawkins is probably the best clsssical fullforward in the game. no run, Just there for his beastly strength and giving a contest.

Walker cant go though in my opinion, like Hawkins the young one's always take time. Hes shown great ability and when Clark goes down we nees him. No trade for mine, Hawkins ahead in his role and impact though.

Walker shown he can perform in important games???? Like once....against the Hawks he played well.....he has consistently failed against quality opposition. He kicked 5 against Brisbane...one was a gift handball from Kersten, and another was a free kick that actually should have been given to Blicavs. But 5 goals is 5 goals so credit to him there. After that game, he virtually disappeared...finally being benched last week.

We talk about Joel getting no support, and forgive him quickly when his form tapers off, but Hawkins who often fought a one man war with multiple opponents, and no support from umpires or other bigger forwards for the majority of the year is questioned.

To even compare the presence of Hawkins and Walker is really stretching the bounds of logical thinking......

...unless of course the OP is Josh's mother.

We could keep him as a depth option and hope beyond hope he shows the "natural improvement" the OP appears so sure of. My problem with that is that players like Stanley, Vardy and Clark, and perhaps Henderson being available will make it hard for Walker to get a run....

Obviously I am not a fan of Josh as a footballer.....seems like a ripping bloke and has hoops in his blood....but in the ruthless world of AFL football, that's not enough.

Walker doesn't have to be better than Hawkins to stay on the list, he only has to be a better option than the 40-50 draft pick he will likely yield.

Clark has been an unmitigated disaster and will only get worse the older he gets. Vardy is an unknown and Stanley is a ruck. Walker showed enough this year to say he is going in the right direction.

Clearly he is not in same class as Hawkins but he must be retained.

?

2 Hawthorn players have more than Hawkins - and only just; Gunston/Breust 48/45. Which is not all that remarkable, since Hawthorn have kicked almost 1.5 times as many goals as us this year (nearly 100 goals more than us).
Hawkins is 13th on the League goal kickers list.

Those damn facts! Always spoiling biased bullshit arguments!

Played alright in the semi final vs north last year

Would like Tommy to have a BIG preseason, lighten off a little, lots of agility work and endurance stuff.

I don't really want him hitting the wings more just being comfortable jumping at the ball and smashing more packs.

Haha, it's not even as though these are hard stats to look up to verify.

I like where this is going. Let's start bagging Hawkins. Thread after thread.

Hope no one is bagging Hawkins. The death of anyone close is a pretty full on thing and takes time to come to terms with.

also , have a look at goals & goals assist average per game rather than just totals. For what Hawkins regards as a less than satisfactory season, still very impressive.

Good coaching would take advantage of that with his height and hands.
Coach can do a lot fo things but if the player has to get in the right spots to be an alternate option in the forward line and convert when opportunities are presented does he not?

tell you what though, if either one of Walker & Kersten do a Lonergan, Stokes or Hawkins, virtually three quarters of this board will have a shit load of egg on their faces.

These two blokes have been hammered from pillar to post.

One thing we do know is that if either of them do well and establish themselves, you'll be the first to pat yourself on the back.
