Tomahawk does it again

Another impressive performance:thumbsu:
Lead well, marked strongly, used his strength and kicked straight. Is this the start of something big this season/in the future for the man-child mountain from Finley?! (IMO he was again mighty impressive, he has contributed strongly for two straight weeks now. I thought he was colossus-like at stages today-physically mauled Maguire in that contest were he used his strength to take the chest mark and then followed up with the goal). Exciting times:thumbsu:
Thoughts?

Re: Tomahawk does it again

Yeah i thought he was better this week than last week coz his goals werent those crumbed goals in the square ( even though theres nothing wrong with those) but if i remember rite all his goals came from marks?

Plus i love the way he uses his strength when theres a scramble for the ball and he tries to just rip it right out of the opponents arms.

Re: Tomahawk does it again

2 great games in a row for the kid. He gets down and works hard for the ground ball, and if he isn't kicking goals he's setting them up.
He really is gonna dominate in a few years. :thumbsu:

Re: Tomahawk does it again

Has really impressed me with his long leads down to the center. As much as I would like to see him stay in the goal square the entire game, he is providing a good target coming out of the backline and doesn't muck around getting the ball moving either!

What has really impressed me through all games this year is 3 things, MArks on the lead, Ground skills and posession count.

His marking on the lead hsa been nothing shor of fantastic..... he is leaving the forward line open for Mooney.

I think his kicking once the ball has hit the deck has been awesome. He always honours a lead successfully. He quite often gathers the ball after crashing a pack, something Nath couldnt do.

Possesion count. Nathan averaged below 10 last year, so did Tom. Fine form if you ask me. Anyone got his stats this year?

Comments?

Re: Tomahawk does it again

I just loved the passage yesterday where he was tackled with the ball, got rid of it, then after he got up and the pack had well and truly formed over the pill, he reached in with two hands and tore it out from under the pack and took 3 players with him :D

It's funny, you can really see the difference between Hawk when comapared with Nathe in that he actually wants to be out there and become a gun player in the comp. I always feel apprehensive when he gets a big wrap in the media and think he is going to go into his shell next week, and then I remember he isn't Nathan.

We are lucky we have this kid.

Yep.
He was great again Today and is becoming more exciting as each week goes by.

I love it when in a scuffle for the ball, Hawkins either pulls the ball from someone else, charges through the pack or pulls the ball out of the pack still with a defender attached :)

He's beginning to battle and launch himself at every contest with the belief he will win it. Throw in his physical attributes and we have all that is promised.

I think we just saw him pass Roughhead by too;)

Heh. I like jokes.

Anyway from a non-Geelong perspective: I thought he looked slow and cumbersome for the first half against the Saints, just seemed too bulky and out of sorts. The second half he turned it on. He's going to be impossible to stop once he gets one-out with an opponent and they sit it on his head. He's got a great set of hands.

i think this was in the first quarter. was amazed just how he tore the ball away from everyone and remembered the fact he is 19. he is the new incredible hulk

I don't know about slow and cumbersome. The size of the guy kind of leans towards that anyway but I agree with you about out of sorts. It's to be expected really, it's only his second season and only 13 games played. He kind of floats in for a half quarter or so before fading out. As long as he can keep kicking a few goals most matches I think he's earned his spot in the team. It's an exciting time to be a supporter as there is a real buzz around the stadium whenever he gets the ball. Great to see crashing packs and not afraid to fly for the ball. I know it's our game plan he's playing to but I wish if he takes a mark inside 50, that he goes back and kicks for goal like you would expect a KPP forward to do. Not look to always pass off.

Every one knows he has lots of potential and I hope he can come on like he is promising. I can't wait for him to get another pre-season under his belt.
