That's right we do have the best list. Our list and our depth is also the best competition going into next year. Defenitly we have a better list & depth then Collingwood and Geelong. Cats had 6 players retire, which will set them back a bit. Collingwood have lost a couple of players as well.

I mean we have players like Osborne Ellis Bateman Young Cheney Bruce Murphy Boumann Hill Lowden McCauley Frank Schneider Pattison Langford. Who are all probably not in our best 22 at the moment. But at the same time they give us great depth. It also allows us to rest some of our starting 22 players. If we have that luxury next year to be able to rest some players here and there. Then that will be an enourmous boost to our chances of winning the flag.

I'd like to know how much this has to do with all the short cheap kicks we did this year, stats would say multipal effective disposals.

The list of 'elite' players has Bachar Houli, Matt Priddis, Chris Newman and Greg Broughton as elite. This is a nothing article to boost sides like this.

The rankings are based on Champion Data points. Quite misleading that because you can get the ball on the half back line and chip it between your defenders and that, according to CD, will make you elite.

Just for the record Travis Boak is more 'elite' than Houli and Priddis

This is the mob who’s statistics ranked Hawthorn as having the worst forward line in the league back in Feb. 2008.
They said we had no “above average” players in our forward line. Franklyn was marked hard because of “undisciplined acts”.
Williams might have made the above average category but he was out for a lot of the year.
(Roughead classed as a utility as he could go forward or back).

To rub salt into the wounds, they thought Richmond had the best forwards (equal first with Melboune????) ‘cos they had 3 above average players in their forward line :
:Richo, OK
:Brown, yeah but he was well beyond his best
:and Pettifer. (give me a break!!!)

Champion data’s stats may be interesting but think they should be treated as not much more than fiction.

They certainly achieve a purpose in getting rabid Collingwood know alls frothing at the mouth.

I now realise why they have such an intense rivalry with Carlton fans - they are equally ignorant.

Our biggest threat next year are injuries to key players.

As such invest the money saved on junkets to Arizona on the medical and fitness team.

Got the membership pack delivered yesterday so I am ready and can't wait. Get Christmas/new Year out of the way and bring it on!

correct, not much point having the best players when a batch of them are sitting in the stands, cross your fingers the club doesnt suffer from " bad luck " yet again.

Mentally, we are probably about 13th.

Do you specifically try to troll your own teams supporters, or is it just a continual accidental occurrence?

Hodgepodge likes to use CD stats to prove Jimmy Bartel is overrated.

That's just the bay. Whenever HP is on there he could care less about being right. In fact most of the time I'm pretty sure he knows he isn't, he just likes to get a rise out of opposition supporters (mainly cats/carlton).

He never actually tries to prove anything.

The non-bay HP is actually a fairly good poster but the bay version is definitely more fun. :)

Agreed. IMHO Boak is also far more elite than Burgers is these days too.

Assessment mechanism has little credibility for mine.

If you find watching someone use the ole 'I know you are, but what am I' technique to get a rise, then you're easily amused :p

Meaningless statistical analysis in my view. We finished 3rd last year. At 3/4 time in the PF we looked likely to be Grand Finalists but our disposal letus down.
When we win the GF we can lay genuine claim to having the best team. That is all that matters.

You can't help yourself can you...:(
Correct again spudmaster, the fact that we have the best list yet cant match 2008 only highlights the fact that we have a big problem in another area, yet so many refuse to acknowledge we have a problem.

You don't like the coaches or gameplan?

I don't, because I believe the best form of defence against the best teams is to attack and not just place everyone behind the ball which ultimately cost us the preliminary final and against Geelong in the H&A.

It wasn't the game plan that lost us the prelim. We ran out of legs and made some stupid errors. Our midfield was spent, no one else besides Buddy looked threatening up forward. Turnovers coming out of the back line were a killer.

the fact that we have the best list

It's a 'fact', is it?

Someone puts a bunch of stats together to describe an incredibly complex organism in the simplest terms possible, and you lap it up.

This stuff about a team having a 'best' or 'worst' of ranked in any way list is just copy, desiged to sell papers, and generate web hits and revenue, pure and simple. Attempting to quantify the value of marks, experience, talent in numerical terms is fraught with such glaring scientific errors regarding subjectivity, the valuation of each trait, and other intangibles that anyone with a modicum of a critical eye would see it for what is is; an exercise in media, an amusing diversion, a conceit, nothing more...

Only a simpleton would use the word 'fact' in association with this exercise.
