Seemingly there is everything to play for with this game: the chance to win a huge losing streak against the Cats that extends back to 2008; the chance to set an all-time club winning streak; and the chance to put some real distance in at the top of the ladder. We got it all in front of us, all the incentive in the world, but can we break the hold the Cats seemingly have on us?

We'll soon find out. And Cyril's back too.

Go Hawks!

Apparently Cyril's back tonight?

Roughnut to kick 6. The only guy they have to run with him will be playing on Buddy.

Keep Taylor quiet and mind Duckwood and we are there. The best way to stop their forward targets is to stop the supply to them. Geelong have been down on clearances from the middle this year. Our mids need to play big tonight and I suggest Hodge will be significant in this plot.

Hawks by 18.

Beers with Cats mates or watching it home alone? This is my dilemma.

The biggest thing for mine is to put a two game buffer between us and the Cats.

I am sick of tearing stress balls to shreds with these games. I just want to kill 'em; figuratively or literally, I will take either.

Enjoy the game my fellow Hawkers.

Would be nice to just go out there and win wouldn't it.. Not close just do it for 4 quarters. I really think Lake is going to be the difference tonight, with the cats average inside 50's 57 per game, making Taylor accountable and not letting him just drift back and be able to take the easy marks he was last time.

I hope Clarko was watching that Freo game, I know I say it every time, but with no Liam we need to send someone to Mr I duck at every chance I get, hard tag. Crowley kept him to 9 possies to half time last week, and his impact was minimal.

Work hurry the **** up! Go hawk!

I'll be singing loud and proud from M10 tonight. How about you guys?

Anyone got info about replacement game seating? A link would be nice :)

I just hope we don't spend 120 minutes lobbing it to CHF when under pressure, as we have for large parts of the past 5 years against this mob.

Note to the mids, Harry Taylor can take a contested mark.

Note to the coaches, if we have to bomb long to CHF, how about use Budd as a decoy and keep Taylor away from the contest.

Lake is now our single most important player, so much so im nervous just saying that

I see McInerny is playing tonight

I keep saying I'm not watching but I'm a glutton for punishment
If we don't win tonight I will be found curled up in the corner foaming at the mouth because there is no excuse whatsoever for not beating them

Good article by Gary Lyon in The Age. Pretty much nails it for mine. Geelong have been able to control too much of the ball coming out of defence and releasing their receivers/runners. We need to be a lot smarter with forward entries and use our pace in the forward line to advantage because their back line doesn't have a lot of pace. Everyone talks about Sydney beating us with the so called sling shot in last year's GF but Geelong have been doing it to us for 5 years.

Edit: should add that we need to make their runners accountable too. Often give them too much space.

Emmett 'Doc' Brown: "Reach!!"
Engineer: "Is this a holdup?"
Emmett 'Doc' Brown: "It's a science experiment."

Many moons ago, I witnessed the wonderful Hawks friendly FIXture wonderfully provided by Vlad the Impaler and his cronies and thought 'wow'. We get to play Geelong and then travel over to Perth for a 6 day turnaround to tackle West Coke Weagles. Marvellous. Then back to Melbourne to take on Collingwood in a huge game at the G. Thanks AFL. It that's not orchestrating a 0-3 start to the season and putting us behind the 8 ball, I don't know what is. And I stated as much on this forum, giving us absolutely NO CHANCE of beating the Weagles after falling yet again to the handbaggers. I could only think if we got it that bad, just imagine how tough Sydney's start must have been!!

Anyhow, I found I had a great propensity for getting it wrong when I said we had absolutely NO CHANCE of winning that Weagle's game. This experiment proved 100% successful for a number of games after that so I made up my mind the Geelong game needed to be targeted to prove without a shadow of a doubt that I have absolutely no idea what the hell I'm talking about (though many of you out there have long suspected this).

Without further ado, here are the following reasons why Hawthorn has NO CHANCE in the world to beat Geelong tonight:
  1. 'If we can't beat them this time, we never will.' The catchcry of the frustrated hawk that has appeared on this forum for the past 5 encounters. Well, never is a very long time. We haven't in those past encounters so I have to assume we never will.
  2. Piggy Hawkins. When he plays all over the forward line, he plays ALL OVER the forward line, taking two stumpy steps in any direction to do it. How can we stop that? We have to play one-on-one against him as there's no room for 'third man up'.
  3. Cameron Ling. The hair. The face. It's blinding. Even though he's long retired, he keeps popping up on the boundary line, scaring the younger hawks and putting Sam Mitchell off his game.
  4. Our kicking for goal. Looks great when we're 'switched on', yet we never seem to be 'on' for 'pressure' games. Strange that. Expect more points that goals tonight, kids.
  5. Harry Taylor. Such a loved personality that Hawks players feel compelled to kick to him. Never really understood that.
  6. And the big one - Kennett's curse. Yes there is no Chapman to declare the 'pact' this time around, but the once hopeful Melbourne president will still be skulking around, oozing his distinct aroma across the playing group in a reminder they're playing an opposition that is mentally weak. Guess we won't have to try very hard in this game, hey?
Of course, the big duel for the night is between the two captains - Joel 'Duck'wood and that wiley, wascally wabbit, Luke Hodge. I leave you with the captain's discussion with the central umpire for tonight's game in a battle of wits. Unfortunately, one of them is only half-armed:

Walls on SEN
" at their best Hawthorn would beat the cats by 10 goals "

That would be peachy
Walls is a ****ing idiot.

Not since 2007 has the second best team been 10 goals worse than first. It happens about 1 in every 10 years that a side is so superior to the rest that the grand final result is a foregone conclusion before they run out onto the ground.

If we play out best and don't panic we should win. If we panic like they usually make us then it's anyone's game and most likely theirs.

God if you are there.... please let us win tonight with no injuries or suspensions. and if they are to win, let them smash us because I don't think I can handle another close loss against these coonts. Will be sitting front row tonight with a couple of mates. One Geelong, one Essendon (supporting Geelong) and one Collingwood (supporting Hawthorn). The Geelong guy I only really see twice a year. At these games. When we part we usually don't say much to each other!!
