Hawthorn announces list changes
HAWTHORN Football Club has made the following changes to its playing list in preparation for the AFL draft period.

Mitch Thorp, Tim Walsh and Haydn Kiel have been delisted while third-year rookie Matthew Suckling has been elevated to the senior list.
While Thorp had one year to run on his contract, he has been plagued by injury and has only been able to manage two senior games in his three seasons at the Club.

Can't believe Thorp is delisted.

Something must of happened. He's fit and he was contracted.

He requested a trade this year and no deal was struck. The club and he came to the mutual decision that it would be best for him to find opportunity elsewhere.

I'm still in shock, for years i've been hoping Thorp could get a couple of consecutive games under his belt to show his worth but it never happened!
I'm just worried now that he's going to end up at another club (most likely Carlton or Essendon) and turn out to be a gun forward. I know it's no use getting annoyed when we've got the likes of Buddy, Roughy and Cyril roaming our forward line, but i had high hopes for Mitch and hoped he'd end up being a star for Hawthorn

For someone with that much talent he must have a bad case of Fevola-itis if no-one was prepared to trade for him.

Pelchen probably was asking for a 1st rounder, I suppose.

Ha imagine the irony if Port pick him up in the PSD for nothing, after all the pick 9 + Thorp that many hawks fans thought was a fair deal for Burgoyne. Would be nice picking up Thorp + 2 1st rounders whilst losing Burgoyne :)

Back onto Thorpe, I have an ex team mate who plays for Box Hill. He obviously knows Thorpe and said he always spoke about himself in the highest light. To quote what he said.... in similar words "He's an uphimself w***er and all the players hate him for it"

Why do all Melbourne supporters believe every1 wants to play for them?

I think a player who has been delisted would be thrilled to get another opportunity at AFL level. It isn't a stretch to suggest that he'd be happy to come to Melbourne, particularly when no club wanted to trade for him.

It's the exact same line all Melbourne supporters are saying about Luke Ball/Jessie Smith/Joel McDonald and now Thorpe.

Ill be honest, until you show a culture that you can win games of football, I if I was an AFL footballer wouldn't be setting foot in the place unless it was the last choice, I mean your so called future captain just left the club, so it can't be as rosey as all Melbourne supporters are making it out.

Sounds like a great fit for Carlton:thumbsu:

Couldnt help but have a small giggle at the memory of some Hawks fans on here saying they would only let him go for a 2nd rounder or better during trade week.

He will get picked up by someone surely, supposedly a weak draft, may as well go for a 21 yo with a late pick or PSD pick who has at least been in the system and has some experience over a complete gamble shot at an 18yo.

Jamie MacNamara will surely get another shot too i would think.

He would be a good third round choice for Freo in the national draft.

They have also spent a shit load recently improving there medical and conditioning team, which could help keep him on the park.

Freo would be a much better option than going to melbourne or richmond who dont have the resources or facilities that Freo do.

I wouldn't mind him at Brisbane at 47, or preferably at a later draft pick. I think he has the potential to be a very good CHF/HFF who roams up the field and can provide an option.

Also before the 2006 draft, he did state that Brisbane was one of his prefered clubs (other was Hawthorn??), so maybe he can do that again in the ND, and slip to us!

If you're in the PSD and Melbourne says "we'll have him", it doesn't really matter too much about what the player thinks of the club - he's going.

I suspect that if Thorp gets another chance he'll be in no position to be too choosey about who it is.

theres always a choice, clubs dont recruit players that dont want to play for them.

So Hawthorn has 9 departures and 2 arrivals, plus one elevation. That's six spots, presuming Croad is now an outside veteran (he wasn't a veteran before was he?) that gives 7 main list spots?
