I think it was on show for everyone to see today.
Did the day just get to much for him?
It was actually sad to see one of our finest play well below his best and fumbling so much.
He will be better for this experience but unfortunately he crumbled today.

I posted it elsewhere, he feeds from the passion and emotion of games, but it was a bit overloaded today. His manic effort overwhelmed the control and decision making that was needed. He wasn't the only one, but he just never seemed to settle where as most of the rest of the team seemed to get into the groove by half time.

Not a good day for Frodo I'm afraid. He'll be feeling it.

I can live with the fumbling and the lack of goals, I felt that would happen anyway. What really disappointed me today was his usual hunger and chasing were completely missing.

As you say PapaJ he needed to find the balance between desperate chasing and scoreboard impact but in the end he didn't manage to do either thing.

I was seriously considering ripping his right leg off and beating him senseless. See if blowing on one leg improved things.

I can't remember a stinker like that from him and Pearce for a long long time.

I was praying the ball he was getting would start falling Sonny's way, but **** it :(

I
I posted this in the main board and stick by it 100%.

I think on reflection some problems have been present on Hayden's game for some time. He wasn't great against Sydney in the prelim and he has a habit of losing his feet abit - he seemed to lack defensive pressure as well today which is something he used to do better than anyone. He has been off for at least a month and he got exposed today.

Having said that - I do not want to crucify the guy. Still think there is a roll for him - he just needs to go back to basics.

I have a greco and grappling background and I have actually thought for a few weeks that the way he is tackling recently it suggested to me that he was carrying an injury - he isn't driving through people when he tackles them anymore which usually suggests a back or ribs injury when I see someone on the mats that is usually good on take downs But starts to struggle through injury. Anyway will be interested if in the post game wash up it comes out the Hayden has been nursing an injury for a month or so. Just my two cents.

I worry about him going forward after this one. It was the biggest stage he clearly looked out of it. He had no impact, actually a negative impact. Opposition players will get stuck into him about this one in the future. Hope he doesn't go into his shell.

Apart from the Buddy bump, he wasn't that manic. I was hoping he'd start a fight, to get fired up.

Yeah, manic isn't quite the right word ... or maybe it's perfect, I don't know o_O. What I meant was is that he ran hard and really tried to impact the game. There was no lack of effort there that I could see.

As for that bump, that was a case in point of what I mean. Some might say good run and effort to get there and impact Buddy's chase, but it was completely unnecessary. Franklin was never going to catch Duffman. What Balla needed to do was bolt into the fwd 50 for a crumb or swing out into space to create an option. He just worked hard in the wrong direction. He seemed to do it all day. When he got into good situations, he'd fumble, slip over and just miss shots that he should swallow up. He had 4-5 opportunities, good opportunities, to hit the scoreboard for a return of 3 points (I think). Sorry, that's just not going to cut it if you're playing HFF.

His pressure was OK in patches, but not what we're used to. But I think you can thank the Hawks organisation in defence for that and the fact that we were letting them have a lot of space with our delivery in there in the first place.

It's called Karma, trade him before he's worthless.

The bloke is a dead set tool & doesn't deserve be apart of Freo's first premiership next season, the club must make a stand & not tolerate characters like his in the team going forward.

Huh? You what now? Who's questioning his character? He's probably not the sort of guy I'd hang out with, but all reports are is that he's a great guy off the field and a hard worker in training and in games? I'm not sure what you're getting at.

Gees this week has brought some interesting posters out of the woodwork.

Oh piss off. We need him. We need him at his best.

Whether he is a "good guy" off the field is simply irrelevant. He needs to deliver the goods on the field and stick to team rules off the field.

I have been pretty reliably informed that Hayden is abit of a crass bogan in real life - but he sticks to team rules and is a great trainer. So I couldn't care less about his personality and whether he is a good guy.

The problem with Hayden is that he has struggled for the last moth or so. As I said above I think he has been carrying an injury.

The other thing - not that I am making excuses for the guy - but isn't his girlfriend/defacto either about to drop or has recently given birth? I remember when my first child was born - incredibly draining and lack of sleep took its toll on me.

Who is this guy? never seen him before, doubt he's actually a Fremantle supporter

Anyway on Ballas, definitely had a stinker today. Was very, very frustrating. Some players such as Sutcliffe and Clarke didn't have any impact on the game however Ballantyne was that bad he had a negative impact on the game. Leigh Matthews was right, it was like he was trying TOO hard but couldn't actually control the ball each time he had it. I will definitely not blame him on our loss but it's heart breaking to see him play a game like that and I know that will take him a while to get over.

He belongs at Freo though and everyone on the team got some important, invaluable grand final experience. I know he will come back fighting harder than ever next season.

...

I'm not making excuses for him or even suggesting he categorically is a 'good guy' - just relaying what others have said about him. More the point, I was just replying to that particular post which suggested he should be out of the team because he's a tool. I'm with you, it's how he gets to work doing what he's supposed to do in and around the club and on game day, that is all I'm worried about. He could well be a tool in private, probably is, I said it before I'd probably not hang out with him, but that's irrelevant.

He's Freo's version of Stephen Milne & Leon Davis, choke on the big stage, we won't win a flag with him in the side.

Lyon , make a stance & get rid of him.
