Seen a few people call this episode the weakest so far, but I thought it was great. Ending was brilliant and it sets up next week really well.

I said it before but i'll say it again, this is the year of Mcconaughey and with 'Interstellar' out at the end of the year (Mcconaughey + Nolan) I'm so excited


In summary:

took me a little while to figure out, but the sheriff who was on the boat at the end with rust and cohle covered up the disappearance of marie fortenot. in the first ep they went to her mother(?)'s house and that's when they found that devil catcher thing in the shed. the original file was marked made in error, which made them investigate it in the first place. marie fortenot was the girl in the video being sacrificed.

loved hart's line "if you were drowning, i'd throw you a barbell." really good episode. i don't get why people class/judge episodes by calling them the weakest, especially for an 8-part series where each episode is part of the story leading towards a conclusion. no filler eps, so they're all just as important imo.

Last two eps have been 3/4 filling the viewer in with info that we need to know. I still liked todays episode, especially if you look at it in the context of the season as a whole. I'm hoping after next week those who found last week and todays episode somewhat boring will appreciate that.

Anyway they've set it up for a great final episode cant wait!

Was it just me or did lawnmower man seem very different to when we last saw him? I know obvious answer is time has past and he was meant to be different but I swear he seemed like a different actor. Anyway why wouldn't have Cohle not noticed the facial scaring the first time he spoke to him. His beard wasn't that thick?

If I understood correct. Childress wasn't involved, the sheriff lied about him because Marty found the original Fontenot records that showed the Sheriff made the initial contact/report or whatever.

the last time he had a longish beard and thicker hair, but to be fair the time gap was 17 years. but i expected him to be the man with the scars. sucks that there is only 1 more episode. im going to miss the show and Marty and Rust, will be interesting to see what and who they pick for S2. the guy that directed all 8 episodes wont direct s2. i hope the creator writes them all again he has a way with his writing.

In all seriousness, a clean shave can make people look quite different (which I thought he did + it has been 17 years).

I see the scarring on his face there but I hadnt seen that pic before. I think I found my first flaw with this show. Rust should have been all over that.

He had the side with the scarring turned away from Rust for all but a second during their 50 second conversation. That together with his beard + tan would have been easy to miss.
