The connection with him though was the school. As far as we know with Marty's daughter, there is no connection other than some vague internet theory about his in-laws, which is based on nothing other than they seem to be fairly wealthy. Even if they don't explicitly show us what happened to the daughter, if the in-laws are involved you'd think they'd give us just a tad more info about them to allow us to join the dots. Still might happen in the last episode I guess. Surely we'll get something - seems a like a weird red herring to devote an entire scene to in episode 2 or whenever it was when they asked her about the drawings.

That's what I mean though about never giving us the answers. The dots are all there, we just can't connect them.

They have been hinting at the daughter being involved and providing little signs all throughout the series. They're too convenient to be ignored. It's hard to imagine a little girl accurately depicting a group rape scene with dolls (which just so happens to look like the scene on the video) just from pure, natural imagination - even if their dad is a cop I doubt he would've ever talked about things like that at home. Barring some twist in the final episode, we'll never find out how she was involved, to what extent she was involved, if her relatives have anything to do the "cult"... or if she was even involved at all. That will all be left open to interpretation. Maybe someone she knew had a copy of the video tape and she accidentally watched it? Maybe she went to school with a girl who was r*ped by the group and she told her the story, and the daughter picked it up that way?

I suppose that was similar to the theories about the lawn mower man (they gave us no info on him), although the theories regarding him may have been a bit more credible given other bits of info we were fed.

Lawnmower man was a pretty obvious get I would've thought. You could see his face was scarred the moment Rust started talking to him. Plus his hair was messed up and curly like the "spaghetti monster" drawing. He looked like a big, tall dude. He just so happened to working at the school/parish linked to the disappearances. He seemed too out of the ordinary to just be a regular character. I thought he was suspicious straight away, and I don't usually pick up on links like that.

Lawnmower man was broken down by a few internet detectives early on, Rust mentioned he needs 1 minute to know if someone is lying (or guilty) he spoke to Lawnmower man for less than a minute before Marty was honking like a mad man at him, also he had the facial hair and his more scarred side was away from Rust, plus i think the sun was behind him so Cohle was looking at him like a shadow (which a few people linked back to the Carcosa and twin suns thing).

Rust had suspicions about him then but was drawn away because of Marty and the lead they had.

Can't wait to see how this all plays out.

I still think they'll tie in Harts daughter some how.

Do we know if the season finale is going to be an 1hr?

I always thought it was suspicious that any one would need to mow that school lawn anyway.

I still have a nagging feeling Maggie is involved somehow. It's also going to end like The Vanishing.

Same here. Something about her visit to see Rust at the bar was....weird.

Loved his line "You should leave, you're classing up the joint too much".

She seems a little too concerned about Marty, like she knows something.

It was a pretty comprehensive and well crafted episode. Really set's it up for a classic finale. Maybe they could have lengthened that scene with Rust breaking into the Tuttle's house. I mean there was that scene in the Zodiac film with Jake Gyllenhaal wondering around that basement which was very tense something like that would have added to it I reckon.

I am going to post this song because it's bloody awesome.

TVZ was an absolute genius, and I was thrilled to bits to hear the song used. Anyone who digs the above song should check out his self-titled 2nd album (which has Lungs on it), High Low and In Between, The Late Great Townes Van Zandt and his 1977 live record At The Old Quarter.

Yes on both counts.

She has this habit of turning up for no apparent reason. I'm suss on her. And I'm suss on her parents.

Yeah, I agree. I enjoyed the episode. Thought they filled in a heap and set up a platform for an intense final hour.

Only thing I didn't like was whan he broke into the pedo castle and we saw Three Rustys sneaking around the darkened lounge. Didn't like that shot - off memory, it was the only time they'd used that sort of gimmick before. Seemed outa place to me.

She was also the one who broke Rust and Marty up in the first place, which resulted in the case being forgotten about for years.

True. She has a kind of supernatural sense of timing.

The case they are going to torture that corrupt cop about is because of that girl in the video, but when did that case come into it? Why are they so fixated on that one case? I don't read as much into the show as others...

I just assumed that Marty's emphatic 'thanks' could be taken as a 'goodbye forever' and out of worry she went to Rust to see what was going, esp after the visit of **** and suck to them all.

?

Because that case gives them a direct link back to the police.

Re watching Ep 2 scene with the in laws, the most I took out of it was it showing the meddling nature of the inlaws with their opinions that was impacting on the marriage...in the very next scene Marty and Mrs have a massive fight that again reinforces that the marriage was already imploding at the same time Marty was screwing about....it wasn't just all about the affair breaking them up at that stage of the season.

Not neccesarilly about Marie Fontano, that girl, but the whole thing in general

That sheriff lied and saif the sheriff at the time took the report but actually he, when he was deputy, took the original report and then the sheriff signed off on it. He is a Childress who's family is related to the Tuttle's through the lustful womanizing of the Reverand.

Basically he swept her dissapearance aeay because either he or his family in general is part of the Carcosa/YellowKing cult.

They're torturing him to find out what he knows
