Unpopular opinion coming up, so look away if you're easily offended - Matthew McConaughey has turned into the best actor in the game. Dallas Buyers Club and True Detective are both amazing - good enough to make you forget about Fool's Gold and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
No doubt he's the most in form actor. Mud, Deserves the Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club, True Detective. I hear his scene in the Wolf of Wall Street is a scene stealer as well.

I'd love it if he won the Oscar, Emmy and Golden Globe all in the same year.

Woody is pretty damn good, I reckon.

Loved the tracking shot, watched it back two extra times.

Great episode and I'll echo the sentiments about that last shot. It sucks there is only 4 more episodes with Rust and Marty, Rust is fascinating as a character with how he is willing to do things.

Leaves you wanting more though, which works on it's own level. Really depends on what note they end on too.

The good part is that they've set a high standard to match, the potential for next season is huge too as far as story and cast go after the success this one will have critically.

He was fantastic in both, and he'll be stiff to miss out, but the guy who was in 12 Years A Slave will win, because he was better, and because of the obvious 'political' reasons too.

McConaughey embodied the performance and role to a degree you rarely see. Chiwetel Ejifor was good but felt a little bit contrived to me in places. Lupita and Fassbender on the other hand were outstanding. I like 12 Years better as a film too but have to give my props to this guy.

Pay that, the direction and supporting cast in 12 years were brilliant, and it should win at least 3 Academy Awards which I guess helps Ejifor's cause. Still think it's a pretty close call between him and MConaughey though, whoever loses it will be terribly unlucky.

it isn't often that i verbally say 'wow' in tv shows, before this, it was in breaking bad/game of thrones (red wedding)

as nic cage would say 'thats high praise'

Neither will win.

Superb episode. Extremely well shot and acted.

That's not a unpopular opinion at all.

I have said exactly this a few times about 12 years, reminded me alot of Wahlberg in The Fighter, was good but had the thunder stolen by others (Bale and Leo).

Anyway the last 30 minutes of ep 4 felt like a blur but my god it was tense. Absolutely compelling

"That would be terrible, being forced to live with someone babbling crazy shit all day". lol

That last shot might have been the greatest thing I've ever seen on TV, next level stuff. The immediate lead up to it all going haywire where Rust is trying to keep everyone calm as the black guys gather outside the window.. insane. Great sound design too.

It's a unique show that will be hard to improve on in future season. It's unique how the director Cary Fukunaga has had this singular control over this project and has directed all 8 episodes. Also it's got these two great fits for the role in McConnaghay and Harrelson.

Neither will win.

I hope you're not suggesting that DiCaprio will get the "career" win for Wolf of Wall Street, makes a mockery of the awards if he beats either of those two.

That's exactly what I am suggesting.

Along with the same writer - show's creator - who's also the producer. Between the two of them they've had the creative and executive control to realise their vision exactly the way they want. And a network in HBO who has a track record in backing creative and not interfering.

I love the pitch strategy too - self contained seasons with 'dense content' that is really like 10 hours of tv, that peoplem can consume weekly or watch chunks at once. It's a real reaction to the formulaic nature of much tv that been informed by the needs of programming not what the consumer wants.

Gotta applaud em'.
