I like the idea of it being an anthology and likening the story arches to individual novels. I think the Matt and Woody combo could lose that X factor if it was forced into a more linear story.

Interesting. What i took out of that was the he said Cohle and Hart were both "heroes."

Obviously everything has been written and filmed, so this suggests that A) neither of them have anything to do with the murders and B) that neither of them die

each week it is becoming clearer to me that both hart and cohle are still working together. As hart said, cohle was getting a read of the detectives and not the other way around. I think it will turn out they never had a falling out but it was all part of a plan to catch the real killer who is obviously involved in the law somewhere along the line. What did they fast forward to last episode, 1995? cohle has worked out they never got the killer and he would have worked with hart on it.

Just gotta work out how hart's daughter is involved? what has she seen? who did she see?

Then again i am probably totally wrong, just like every episode/season of breaking bad lol

Read an interesting theory the other night:

Why Rust and Marty don't talk anymore is because the killer turns out to be Marty's wife. She knew for the longest time about Marty's infidelity. Acts out her rage on whores as a way to cope. The copy cat killing is done by Marty's kid.

It's also been speculated that Cohle might actually still be undercover (in 2012). Or was undercover at some stage.

Apparently the book the yellow king, the author's intent is to drive you mad trying to figure out the ending then never gives you a clear ending. I have read in here a few times about the writer of the show saying it is more about the story than then ending, so be prepared to never know who did it

Read another interesting theory RE: the Yellow King. What the guy was saying was that basically there is no Yellow King. The Yellow King is rather a manifestation of trauma - i.e. the death of Cohle's daughter, breaking up of Hart's family/daughters promiscuity.

I remember thinking it strange that Cohle said immediately after finding the body something like 'before he moved her here' without any explanation why it was definitely a man.

So then I started hoping it would be a woman just to be something different.

So if it's that it would be a great reveal imo.

The only thing that doesn't add up is that Maggie left after that girl told her about the affair... If she knew all along it wouldn't have made much of a difference to her?

Anything less than her reaction wouldn't be considered normal though.

I think if there is a cult it might go (as to involvement)... Maggies father --> Maggie --> her daughter.

Maybe the cult is kidnapping these kids and some are going into other families like the Harts. As I said earlier that Macy may not be their child. What if Macy is actually Marie Fontenot?

That would explain some of Audreys behaviour.

It's been a great show so far and I really like the 8 episode length, it's just about a perfect amount of time to play out an extended story arc without them having to find fillers and fake twists.

All I hope for is that neither Cohle or Hart are involved. From the first episode you could see a Cohle the Killer solution but thankfully the writing so far seems a lot better than that.

Watching all these great tv shows over several years now you realize the limitations of movies and how hard it must be to wrap up similar sort of things in the same time frame. Condensed into a film you probably get something like Prisoners. Any longer and it would dilute the quality.

Yes, and he wasn't having a sip of wine he was drinking and smoking and and he finished all the beer, then he made little figures with those aluminium cans, there,s a little more for him to protect himself with , saying "I drank a lot of beer", (if he has to protect himself that is?).
Yes this guy is ten paces in front of the two detectives investigating him.
He's like a good footballer , he has his next move worked out before he has made the first effort.

That works the other way too. You can see quality production in really good quality television shows because they don't roll them off the assembly line by the dozen . They make 8 or 10 or 12 a year maybe. Some TV in Australia does that too. Like Tangle and Rake . The actors are given time to be directed and bring out the best in themselves , al la Sopranos , Deadwood etc.

As in movie features sometimes they take months to put up 80 or 90 minutes of film. Sometimes they take years , as did Gone with the Wind and Ben Hur and many movies down the line over all the years.

You look at soapies on Aussie TV and you can pick the assembly line stuff, and it is very fast , quickly directed , I guess actors come in for a lot of hours and shoot off a half a dozen quickie scenes in a day, the quality of script is rushed and the actors just throw out a delivery .

For me you can tell this happens because you see actors in say, All Saints, and down the track your watching them in a movie or a special series and they are really ACTING WELL. You think gee this person can act. But two years before they looked like crap, delivering non beleivable crappy scripts.

I think the Rafters went down the tubes after they killed a main character and stuffed up the audience , although it was a bit amateurish at times anyway.
But it did deteriorate.

So I reckon the plan for quality TV is have between 8 to 12 episodes per year, maybe 11 or 12 hours of "movie " quality TV.
If that wasn't the case ,why would top liners go to TV , as we see in the true detectives.

Also quality in well directed and a long term creation of one season per year , can be seen by watching the bit part actors ,whose performances are just so professional and right up there, for the few seconds they are on , they are part of the reality of a good show . Time factor is the essence of a good show on film , movie or mini series.

Yeh she has had her face photoshopped and replaced with someone else in the close up picture, really really weird

Yep, television is kicking hollywood's arse the last decade or so. I hardly go to the movies at all anymore, maybe 2-3 times a year, just doesn't seem to be as much that grabs me. Golden age of TV.
