Probably the worst episode of the season and it was still better than practically everything else out there. Also I'm intrigued by Rust ******* Maggie, seemed so out of character for him. The depressive intellectual creature he is, probably would have seen himself above gratification, as its a primitive urge. Two possibilities, he was so focused on the case he lost emotional control or he was testing her and she failed hence the demonstrative behaviour afterward. Either way it takes a bloody good show to have me analysing it half a week later.

Without being crude the manner in which he turned her about says a lot for how he actually felt about her and the act.

Yeah the plan seems to be each season will be a new cast, new case and a new location, with the aim that each location is as big a part of the feel of the season as rural Louisiana has been in this one.

Has anyone been watching American Horror Story? Apparently that's been doing a similar approach but the same actors also play different characters each season.
o_O

Big fan of AHS (though struggling with the last eps of current season to finish)...would seem out of place in T.D...maybe because there is that super natural element that gets it over the line...but it works because each of the three seasons have been in totally different seasons...a house, an asylum and New Orleans and across different eras of time...so AHS works because of these aspects.

Really, I can see her being a victim definitely. They have strongly hinted at it throughout the series (sure could be a red herring) and the episode 7 preview again hints at it.

Yeh that scene where both daughters were on the grass and the tiara went up into the tree had that dreaded loss of innocence about it.

At this stage they could fill the hour with Rust and Marty drinking a few beers in a bar and watching a sporting event of some description on the TV and I'd happily watch. Dialogue would be nice but not strictly a necessity.

Rust's philosophical ramblings were spell binding...call me the historical linear type, but that spiel on time was captivating.

Thoughts on what he shows Marty that causes him to lose it?

Mine is that is a photo of his daughter that was "discovered" by the now alcoholic Reverend Joel Theriot

Looks like a TV he turns off; I have no idea...look back at how Marty reacted when the kids were found...he has a pretty strong compass of righteousness there so it could be anything.

Well for starters finding out your partner is cheating and wearing dark makeup/going through a tween emo phase are not good enough reasons for people to become psycho serial killers.

And you would also have to ignore basically everything we have learnt in the first 5 eps.

Maggie might be loosely involved because she went to the school but the show is too good for some sort of cheap M.Night Shyamalan twist.
I think the women & girl you are all discussing are part of the bigger picture of the life of one of the cops. I don't expect them to be involved in the psycho
hunt at all. It is a brilliant show , and it shows that some people who have to delve into the depths of these depraved people and investigate them and see what they see, well what a shit of a job. But I wonder what we would be doing if there weren't police out there who look into these hideous killers and freaks.

Any wonder their family life goes down the toilet. Rust , his character has other issues like maybe being involved in drugs and abuse of different kinds he has issues all over the place, he sees everyone as a nut case, except himself. He has a talent for getting information from people he is a great investigative cop. But the material sickens him , but he can't stop persueing, he can't stop the hunt in his own head , like he has a personal search on as well.

This is one of the best building typed stories I've seen. You can make up every angle you like about the characters and guilty parties I bet it isn't right though . This will surprise us all.

But have a look at Marty's wife . What a mongrel . Rust couldn't help being seduced then , she uses him as a payback to Marty. He lost control then realised very quickly that she'd fancied him , but, she normally would not have done what she did. I mean going so far as having. sex with him. That was done to create a brain explosion in her husband as payback. But Marty brought her to the end of her tether cheating again , and apparently again and again and again.

Nope this is about the lives of the characters. The case is something else , its evil and creepy like the theme song.

I may be wrong, but I can't figure out how some of you are finding all this stuff and forming opinions etc on a couple of seconds of a photo .

Just watch and enjoy . You won't solve it until it wants you to. The tension is bloody magnificent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Southern bible belt old fashioned righteous copper, that's Marty , but he loves women his downfall and guilt . Lots of the bible belters in that part are super right wing , lots are end of world preppers. All carry guns , for "the good". And they are over the top do the right thing. Even though most of them are sinners like the rest of us.

Well, Hawthorn supporters may be the exception of course . We are a marvellous bunch.

AAH folks , we're all finding ghosts behind every door or photo or paintings , and they are not there. THEY ARE NOT THERE, I TELL YOU.
Great isn't it. What a show!

Was more about getting rid of Marty for good than straight out revenge. She could of banged any old random for that, but chose Rust because she knew it was something that Marty could never forgive.

Rust fell into passion With Maggie because he clearly has feelings for her.

1. He stayed at dinner despite his traumatic day when he first met her because he felt comfortable there
2. He mowed her lawn, this could have been a little poke at Marty or he could have used it to spend time with her
3. He clearly seems dissapointed in Marty with his infedelity and is clearly troubled when Maggie calls him to ask about it

So I think that he he let his feelings for Maggie out when she threw herselves upon him and then got twisted when it was revealed she was not the pure benevolent person he thought she was and was in fact only using him to get back at Marty.

This is a shortlist of people who would definitely do the show justice in my opinion. Would have a lot to do with where season 2 is going to be filmed...

Male leads:
Ed Norton
Ben Foster
Sam Rockwell
Ben Mendelsohn
Barry Pepper
Michael K. Williams

Female leads:
Noomi Roopace
Melissa Leo
Frances McDormand
Hilary Swank
Robin Wright

For those that have seen Fringe, I wonder if Anna Torv would work?

yeah she's definitely got range and one of the few female leads i actually enjoy watching

i'm a little worried that outside of Rust and mainly the delivery of his monologues, this show in different actors hands will be absolutely nowhere near this seasons effect

i think they got the 8 episodes per case per season spot on

There's so many potential male leads that I could imagine being in this sort of show. I'm hoping they go for newbies to TV again like this season. Damien Lewis, Idris Elba, Michael K Williams, etc. would all be great, but I'd prefer someone who hasn't been in a long running show already. My favourites already mentioned are Rockwell, Norton and Ejiofor. Some not mentioned that could be great are Fassbender, Ryan Gosling, Joseph Gordon-Lovett, Joaquin Phoenix (would be an amazing get).

Some potential women I haven't seen mentioned would be Michelle Williams, Charlize Theron, Amy Adams, Maria Bello or Maggie Gylenhall. Maybe Jodie Foster as long as she isn't required to do a south african accent.

Whoever is chosen has a lot to live up to.

Yes. Robin Wright and Ben Mendelsohn.

I think it will be dependant on where they set the next season (as to who they choose). If its a setting like 'The Killing' then the range of actors available would be much broader IMO. If its still going to be set in a southern poverty like area then I reckon it'll be much harder because you've got to fill Woody and Mcconaughey.

I reckon some people would see Torv as too network tv-yyy. But if you watch all of Fringe, then I agree with you that she has the ability. She was also one of the few female leads I enjoyed watching.

EDIT: I hope they don't go with Robin Wright.

Yes, that kind of weird hollow in her neck is a bit icky for mine. Like the entrance to a Stoat's burrow or something.
