Hello!!! I'm John, 21, and I'm from America (right now, I live in Washington, DC). I'm a student at Gallaudet University, the world's only liberal arts university for the deaf people.

I love to watch cricket, soccer, baseball, American football, hockey and I cannot do it without a hit of Aussie footy! Woo!!!

The reason why I joined the BigFooty forum because I bought and imported a game from Australia called "AFL Live 2011" because I heard so much about it that I don't mind playing it a week ago... and I'm very addicted to it now!

Any Questions? Oh and I forgot to tell y'all that I don't have a favorite team for the AFL yet... maybe y'all can help me decide because I would like to buy a guernsey to wear and show it off to American friends :)

As for AFL Live 2011, I'm starting to create a team via Footy Factory called East Perth Royals from the WAFL (The team won the random draw from Wikipedia! lol) so if people want to help me with the attributes for the players I have to create, please do! and also I will upload it to the AFL Live subforum for the journey of East Perth Royals in the AFL... and I'm willing to create more teams and maybe can start a custom league for y'all to find out which team is the best in the league, i.e. WAFL, SANFL, VFL, etc.

So feel free to hit my thread and say hi!

John

welcome.

http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=900070

have a read through that thread. some posters have given a run down of a few of the teams to help another poster select a team. i've not played an afl game since 'finals fever' which came out in 1996. lol

i think you should get a swans guersey. easily identifiable with the sydney opera house on the front. ;)

Thanks for the thread but I don't think it will help me. I did try to create a competition of my own called "Wholey Cup" which I uses the three games from each week of a season (full matches) downloaded to my laptop. I watched it and tallied it very much. I believe that Hawthorn and St. Kilda was competiting for the lead when my laptop crashed lol

As for the Swans guernsey, I was like "ehhh" to the idea of me wearing something that would be identified with the feminine word such as "Swans" lol :p

East Perth almost joined the VFL(AFL) 30 years ago.

But why you pick East Perth?

Their shit lol

Pick East Freo:thumbsu:

Ah cool, if East Perth joined VFL, it would be no more West Coast Eagles, meaning premierships for the Royals lol

Like I say, I just clicked the First player retired in 2010 season in Wikipedia and east Perth came up. If u want, I'm willing to create a East Fremantle team... Before march 2011! Are u up to it?

Even I'm not skilled enough to beat a March 2011 deadline :D

If you want WAFL information use this website
http://www.wafl.com.au/

I'm not sure what is involed with creating ratings because I have never played AFL Live 2011.

Come support Geelong Cats!

We are the best team of the past 5 years (3 premiership flags since 2007) and are the reigning premiers.

We are the best-managed list in the league, and our list is full of senior champions, legends and promising youngsters. I don't want to come off cocky, but I don't think we have one bad player.

Although we are successful, we are generally one of the well-liked clubs, and are
considered the family club.

Our main rival is Hawthorn, and every game we play with them is the best you will find. I hate hate hate some of their supporters though. Probably worst in the league to be honest.

I mean, the squad of East Fremantle before the 2011 season begins. Not the deadline hahahaha :p

And I uses Wikipedia and WAFL to create a list of East Perth for AFL Live 2011. So far:

AFL Signings:

Dean Cox (West Coast)
Dylan Roberton (Fremantle)
Hamish Shepheard (Fremantle)
Luke Shuey (West Coast)

Promoted from East Perth's 2010 team:

Kyle Anderson (Ruckman) 65
Kayne Pettifer (HFB) 74
Graham Polak (CHB) 73
Mathew Seal (Wingman) 62
Donald Stirling (Centre) 60
Brendan Lee (Rover) 68

30 more players left to fill the rest of the team's spots :D

Yeah, I know Geelong is on my list as one of the potential candidates to be my favorite team. Unfortunately, Hawthorn is also on the list. Like I say, Sydney Swans is out.

Candidates:
Geelong Cats
Hawthorn Hawks
St. Kilda Saints

Eliminated:
Sydney Swans
Collingwood Magpies

Geelong beat St Kilda in a GF in 2009. St Kilda were beaten in the 2010 GF as well. They've lost their coach, and are now on a slide down the ladder imo.

St Kilda are known for their bad club culture and choking in finals, and have for their whole history. 1 flag in 138 years, and 26 wooden spoons (last place) says it all. Embarrassment to the comp imo.

Hawthorn is a good team, but you won't want to get involved with a lot of their supporters.

Geelong is the best team, and their supporters are rated as some of the best in the league.

You know which sounds better.

Unfortunately, Hawthorn beat us in the 2008 GF. We were dead favourites
for the game, and we should have won. Inaccurate kicking cost us. We have definitely improved on that since then. We have beaten Hawthorn every game since 2008, yet their supporters always resort to the GF when they need a comeback. That is why I hate them. They also had a bit of a grip on us in the 80s, but ever since then, it's primarily been Geelong, Geelong, Geelong.

We welcome new supporters with open arms.

That's why East Fremantle might be easier because they have more draftees playing AFL.

From 2011 you can take (off the top of my head)

Draftees

Sandilands (Fremantle)
Griffin (Fremantle)
Hooker (Essendon)
Kerr (WCE)
Masten (WCE)
Palmer (Fremantle)
Brennan (WCE)
Kennedy (WCE)
Ryder (Essendon)
Swallow (North)
Swallow (Gold Coast)
Fasolo (Collingwood)
Black (Brisbane)
Dalziell (WCE)

Linked Players
Pavlich (Fremantle)
Stevens (WCE)
Staker (Brisbane)

There are more players but wiki is down

The Sydney nickname comes from Black swans and their other nickname is the bloods

Honestly if you want to support a good team, follow Geelong. If you just want a cool looking guernsey get a West Coast away.

Yeah, it could be nice but the problem is that... if I take all of them, the teams who have those players could not make the minimum required number of players which is 40, so it means that I have to create more players to supplement those players.

Honestly if you want to support a good team, follow Geelong. If you just want a cool looking guernsey get a West Coast away.

Right now, here's the list:

Official Candidate Status:

Geelong
Hawthorn
St. Kilda

On the Fence (Not in order):

West Coast Eagles
Port Adelaide
Adelaide
Fremantle
GWS Giants
Gold Coast Suns
Brisbane
Western
North Melbourne
Carlton
Melbourne
Richmond
Essendon

Eliminated from Contention:

Sydney
Collingwood

So pretty much that Geelong is in as one of the "finalists" to be my favorite team while the old Hawthorn clash guernsey is what I desire to wear :)

Ah, cool. Thanks for some in-depth information on the Swans nickname :)

So you want to support Hawthorn because of their old guernsey?

I wouldn't 'zactly take pride out of their guernsey, and its colours. Everyone calls them the "poo and wee's" and "diarrhoea team". Once the Hawthorn side went out in brown and yellow camouflage guernseys, and it legitimately looked like a messed up toilet. Would have been embarrassing for their supporters too.

I don't think Geelong's colours and guernseys are the best, but I've always supported them. I prefer Brisbane's or Port Adelaide's guernseys tbh.

Well let's see what happens anyway... For now, I just focus on enjoying watching the beautiful game plays out. The favorite team will come to me when I have a emotional attachment to it :)

Yeah, I recommend watching the NAB cup in a few weeks (the pre-season competition with the AFL teams, where most sides bring in their younger inexperienced players) or the first few rounds of the AFL without supporting anyone quite yet. Choosing your team isn't something that should be forced or recommended, so I take everything back. Let us know who you choose and why!

Yeah, I'm excited for the NAB Cup to start, it would be interesting to watch with 9-point rule applied in it. The teams would be helped by the players who take advantage of it because they will know that they have a young long-bomber to train and thrive in success :)

The NAB cup isn't that great. No teams take it seriously.

Hi, and welcome. My suggestion would be to get on board the new team entering the competion this year, GWS Giants.

They are the "American" professional sporting team of the AFL.

Ick, no thanks... I don't want to wear something related to the Giants especially since my cherished Green Bay Packers was demolished by New York Giants...

Now I'm going to eliminate the Giants from contention and promote Fremantle to Official Candidate Status based on good suggestions here:

Go for North. Best culture in the competition. We have a never-say-die attitude.

It sounds good but I'm a little unsure because the Roos always traveling around so I don't want to change the guernseys every time... If the Roos plans to stay in Victoria at least permanently then I'll think about it, so that means the Roos stays "on the fence" list for now.

The Roos do plan to stay in Melbourne and they won't change their jumper.

To be honest the only way to find a team is to develop an emotional attachment to a team, which generally happens if your barracking for a team at a match.

Linked players obviously weren't drafted from East Freo.

There's a few retired AFL players that are on East Freo's current list; Mark McGough, Leith Teakle (never broke through for a senior game), Jamie McNamara.

Add in 2010 retirees drafted from the club in Tarkyn Lockyer and Paul Hasleby and you'd already have quite a good staple.
