and hopefully we can get Suzi Olsen from Ballarat to write it in :D

I'm thinking of asking, "How many players have the unique distinction of having a bowling average lower than their batting average? (minimum 100 wickets, 2000 runs).

made the threshold a bit higher so its easier to look up.

Actually its a dud question. I just realised heaps of people would. I wonder how many have the batting average over 30 and bowling average under 30 for the same minumum requirements.

There's a stack of them. Based on 1000 runs @ 100 wickets here's a start:

Bailey (Eng) - 2,290 runs @ 29.74. 132 wkts @ 29.21
Botham (Eng) - 5,200 runs @ 33.54. 383 wkts @ 28.40
C Cairns (NZ) - 2,853 runs @ 32.79. 197 wkts @ 28.80
Davidson (Aus) - 1,328 runs @ 24.59. 186 wkts @ 20.83
Goddard (RSA) - 2,516 runs @ 34.46. 123 wkts @ 26.22
Hadlee (NZ) - 3,124 runs @ 27.16. 431 wkts @ 22.29

Don't have enough time to give you the full list, but this link should give them all:

Cricket Test Stats 1000 runs & 100 wickets

Ian Botham - Batting average of 33.54, Bowling 28.40

he's the only one above 5000 runs, 200 wickets with this feat.

Thanks heaps Lidge.
only 3 Aussies:

Keith Miller
Monty Noble
Alan Davidson

and only 2 current players:

Jaques Kallis
Shaun Pollock

I believe Kallis is the only player of all time with 2000 runs @ >40 and a 100 wickets @ <30 (they're the cut-offs I would consider reasonable).

Which player's Test century was made with the most boundaries ??

Which fieldsman (not wicketkeeper) has taken the most catches in a Test innings and how many was it ??

What is the longest time taken to score a Test century ??

Apart from Kepler Wessels, who has played Test cricket for more than one nation ?? (is there anyone else ??)

i think we had a miscellaneous cricket stats thread a while ago that was a ripper. but here's a question:

One of history's greatest batsmen, West Indian George Headley, only played 22 tests yet compiled 10 centuries and 2190 runs at an average of over 60. While he played domestically for Jamaica and was a tremendous ambassador for the game and the region, where was he actually born?

Or

Mohinder Amarnath of India didn't play a test between November 7, 1979 and December 10, 1982, yet returned with an unbeaten 109 away to Pakistan. Apart from the fact that he was retired hurt for more than a day in the first innings, what was remarkable about his efforts in the second innings of the fifth and final test against the West Indies in Antigua in May 1983?

Or

Jack Hobbs and Herbert Sutcliffe are considered to be two of the best, if not the best, opening batsmen in Test cricket history, finishing with batting averages of 57 and 61 respectively, and 15 century opening partnerships and an average of 88 in their 38 innings together. When Australia toured England in 1930, what interesting piece of trivia was created when these two players, as expected, were selected for the first test at Trent Bridge?

there's about a dozen of these. can't be bothered to name them all.

There have been a good dozen, give or take, players to play test cricket for two countries.

Billy Murdoch, JJ Ferris, Albert Trott, Billy Midwinter and Sam Woods all played for Australia and England, late nineteenth/early twentieth century.

That spinner Traicos, forget his first name, played in South Africa's last test before isolation and then in Zimbabwe's first ever test.

I know there's one cricketer who played for New Zealand and the Windies. And one or two who played for India and Pakistan.

My best guesses / research:

1. Andrew Flintoff. 19 fours, two sixes.

2. Five players have taken five catches in an innings, most recently Steven Fleming.

3. Mudassar Nazar. 557 minutes.

4. 14 players - interestingly John Traicos, played his last test for South Africa in 1970, and 22 years (!) later, played test cricket for Zimbabwe.

And another player born in a slightly obscure (in a cricketing sense at least) country.

Here's a weird one I just found:

Apparently, Greenidge and Haynes hold the record partnership for which wicket?

yeah can't be too many Egyptians in test cricket. funny birthplace - Zagazig! And an interesting full name - Athanasios John Traicos. WTF?

1) When was the last time two bowlers combined to take all 20 wickets in a test?

2) Only Australian captain to take 10 wickets in a test?

3) Since WWI only once has a pair of debutants put on a 100 run partnership for Australia, who were the two in the partnership?

4) Last person to open the batting and bowling in the same test?

5) Who is the only player to score 1000 runs at a single test venue over a test career, that is not in their home country?

6) Who has scored the most half centuries in a career, without a test century?

7) Who is the only Australian to score two unbeaten half centuries in a test match

8) Only player to have scored 400 runs and taken 30 wickets in a test series

9) When was the last time a non-keeper took 5 catches in an innings

10) Who holds the record for the least balls to pick up 5 wickets in an innings

Well I found that a dissapointing answer. At least it wasn't Laker 19, Lock 1. :p

I actually thought Murali and Vaas might've done it once.

Who was the Queensland all-rounder who had a terrible one day cricket debut for Australia against NZ (in perth) in the 87/88 series? Never played for Australia again and struggled to play for his state the next year and for the rest of his career.
