Im new to following the NBA as well.Yep looking to pick a team and need suggestions
Im new to following the NBA as well.
I tried to follow the TWolves but went off them this year pretty quickly. Not a fan of their coach Thibs. Wiggins and Towns seem like sooks.
I then thought id follow the 76's due to Simmons and I like Butler but did some research into why the are called the 76ers and its obviously very American which put me off and i started to get the sense the 76ers where starting to become a bandwagoner team here in Aus....
I have settled on the Knicks.
Obviously a shit team atm which appeals because i dont want to jump on a bandwagon ala GS, Celtics, Cavs, Miami, Lakers.
They have good young players and will get another good pick this year
They have cap space which could hopefully entice a big name like Durant.
I have a dutch background which if you read the history of the Knicks is why they are called the Knickerbockers.
Good luck though haha.
Being a Richmond supporter i am quite resilient. That's like going backstage at a Victoria Secret show and then picking the makeup lady.

And when success comes it makes it even sweeter
Thats fine. It's only been 45 years for the Knicks.
Should be any moment now...
Thats fine.
Who do you follow?
The NBA certainly has some terrible team names.Ignore performance and players, go with the colours, logo and name you like best. Then, in years time, kick yourself for picking cool losers.
Gonna go for the mavs

Not Atlanta.
Moving to Toronto next year, do you get to many games? I think I’ll be the only Australian Bucks fan in the whole city. These threads can degenerate very quickly, but they're fun, to begin with.
I'd recommend not jumping on the bandwagon of a heavily supported team, however, you want a team that plays in a city you might visit one day. The other options are to support a team with an Australian player.
The obvious suggestion in the 76er's in Philadelphia, they have Simmons (on track to be Australias best ever basketball product), they're on the cusp of being a very good team and its a city you might visit during a U.S tour.
I support the Toronto Raptors because I live there, that's not a bad option if you think you'll one day come to Canada.
One from left field is New Orleans Pelicans, though they may not exist for much longer.
Brooklyn Net's isn't a bad idea either.
Avoid Lakers, Celtics, Bulls and Golden State.

Yeh looking forward to the minus 17 degree wintersYou might be the only Australian Bucks fan that doesn't live in Australia or Milwaukee!
Toronto is a great city. I've stayed there twice for 6 months each time. Both times in the summer though. Have fun with those winters!

Surely you’re joking?I would suggest not picking a team. I've always said to my mates that I don't follow any teams but rather support players. At the moment it's currently Ben Simmons, so I root for the 76ers but before that it was T-Mac at Orlando & Houston, Amare Stoudamire at the Suns & Knicks and then Blake Griffin at the Clippers. I still hold a soft spot for Orlando as they were the first team I rooted for, but imagine been an Orlando supporter for the past 5 years - what a trainwreck.
My mate supported Minnesota cause of KG back in the day, he has had it rough for the last decade. Don't understand why Australians would feel the need to stay loyal to a team - no connection to the city or team makes it hard when the team is doing trash for 10+ years.
