Only the 1st round of the season and already "The WORST Australian Newspaper"" shows its form.
Two local teams competed on the weekend.
Team 1 Finished bottom half of the ladder and in probably the best match of the round beat an almost full strength reigning Premier.
Team 2 A top four team last year defeats a middle of the ladder contender and one of their guys kicks a handfull of goals.
Guess who gets the front page photo, but wait there is more, who gets the back page photo? Oh hang on lets throw in a bit more on the front page, Who is the most hated footballer in the AFL? Maybe there is something inside but by now why bother!!

I noticed this too though, Freo beat the reigning premiers and WCE are the flag favourites in the Worsts eyes, Kennedy on the back & front page of the paper..

I have little interest in defending the West, but in fairness to them the Eagles game was on the Sunday whereas we played on the Saturday.

Not really a valid defense as their is no Sunday morning edition of The West and this mornings edition is the first report of weekend games other than the Friday night game that is reported on Saturday morning.

Fact is eagle fans outnumber Freo fans something like 3 to 1, so naturally the papers are going to cater to the wider audience. I personally don't care if Freo make headlines, more interested in winning.

It absolutely is a valid defense. I work with the media a bit and The West will not re-run an article that featured in the Sunday Times. (and vice-versa) Both papers want exclusivity wherever possible. They'd be stupid to run a story on the dockers on the back page today. (I'm guessing we'll feature on the back page of tomorrow's paper though.)

Constantly hear this whinge.. just don't buy it or read it if you are never happy with what they say.

They're a major sponsor of WCE, there will always be that affiliation (they're also a lesser sponsor of Freo I see).

I for one can't believe people still buy the paper (then whinge when they don't like what's in it - you have a choice to pay for it, and we all check the front and back pages before deciding to buy the paper). Get an ipad and read only the best of about 10 papers with your sunday morning eggs, if it's becoming too much to handle.

I understand the OP's frustration. I use online sources but I also buy the WC Daily on Fri (Pre Game) Sat (Pre or Post Game / Tele Mag) Mon (Post Game) and WC Times (Pre or Post Game). I have given up on whether we hit the headlines or not and only have an expectation that the papers contain a balanced view of both teams. I am sad to say my expectation is very rarely met.

The subscription online editions of the AGE and HUN really show how biased our papers over hear are. They have to report on 10 teams so it's an imperative they are balanced. I would like to give our papers a miss but the online alternative here is not up to scratch, Yet.
