Hill and Stack want out

Or Brendan Stack as Parko called him. Not terribly fussed to see Stack go, dont think he will ever be an AFL footballer and will hardly have clubs busting down his door. Josh has a lot of ability and it is completely up to him as to whether he gets the most out if it

McKinley is the FF thats too short to be a FF.

he's very similar to mathew lloyd in playing style. all he does it leads, marks and kicks goals. can take a contested mark.

forward pressure is shit, average pace and poor work ethic at times.

his kicking is hit and miss. drafted as a fantastic kick, he spent the first few years of wafl kicking as many behinds as goals. played well in 08, where he kicked very straight and nailed them from everywhere. back to his shocking best in terms of kicking this year.
he's technically a good kick, it's probably just confidence.

is capable of kicking 50 goals in a season. though he seems like the type of player eade would rip to shreds.

I've said it before, I'll be unhappy if we lose Hill, he's got more talent than most of the players on our list and can run down midfielders from behind. If you question his courage, remember that he's not exactly built like Jonathon Brown.

Stack is enigmatic. His second game last year was probably his best and he didn't progress in 2010. I think he will go home (and you can't blame him) so hopefully we can trade in a player with plenty of pace.

Don't they share a house with Harbrow?
Maybe it's a bit of post trade depression from losing a mate.

I think they both have a lot of upside but just don't have the right work ethic. A change of team would no doubt help that.

Let's see what's on offer. Hopefully something worth while if they do indeed go, because Hill especially is a very good player when he puts his mind to it.

Not jumping for joy about this, but not really fased by it either. Everitt wanted out last year but we managed to hang on to him, and you could potentially say it showed in his performance. If we hang on to these guys now I'm not convinced they'll lift their game to a level where they demand a consistent spot in the side.

The club has had an established side over the last couple of years, and IMO rightly has blooded youngsters to fill needs in the team (see Picken, Ward, Grant and Wood), without having the luxury of playing youngsters well, just because they're young and have a bit of potential. I think a lot of posters underestimate how finely balanced our side is, and how crucial to us winning games players following instructions and executing the game plans is. You play one or two youngsters on top of the few you're blooding at the time, and you can drop games pretty quickly.

Anyway, I hope we keep Hill but I don't think there's a spot on the list for both of these guys. The game has changed, possibly for the short term, where laconic HFF and FP types have limited value unless they're kicking a lot of goals. And it's really hard to hold two such players on your list at the same time.

meh. Hill couldn't crack our 22 for whatever reason, and Stack at times did crack the 22 when he probably shouldn't have. Hope to get something decent for Hill, but Stack would expect nothing more than a late pick to get to the team he'd like to go to (see R Shaw to Sydney)

Yeah like its our fault that one's money hungry and the other two are lazy and inconsistent.

Yes, it is our fault that we recruit indigenous players from remote communities and far flung locations with a strong family bond, plonk them in freezing Melbourne without proper support networks, mentors, and other programs to allow them to adjust. We also cannot have much influence in making them happy and enjoying their football. You only had to look at the few AFL games they played this year. Their confidence was shot, they didn't feel part of the group and they were not enjoying their football. All of those are our responsibilities and we have failed. Our record with our drafted indigenous players suggests that we have no idea how to accomodate them.

I wouldn;t mind so much if we were losing duds, but to lose young players with talent because they havn't been made to feel happy, confident or part of the team, is extremely sad.

Just wait, I'm sure I put the worlds smallest violin around here somewhere....

Its so unfair that we plonk these poor buggers down and give them the opportunity to play professional sport and earn 6 figure wages. Unbelievable.

Great motivation techniques BWFC. Well done.

The thing is that as a club you have to be able to recognise different personalities and different cultural groups as everyone is an individual. You have to have processes which can keep the player happy, confident, and part of the team and then to extract the talent out of the player and to perform strongly in a long career.

Clearly as a club we have major deficiencies in this area. Hill, Stack, Lynch, Thorne, Faulkner etc. It cannot be a co incidence.

Brennan Stack is possibly the softest man to pull on a jumper. Seeya mate, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

BFBrasil - sorry mate, but that's tripe. Do you think the guys who go work in mines or on rigs or the like get pandered to, made to feel comfortable, etc? Christ no. They work their ringpiece out to fit in and contribute, not vice versa. Seems to be a bit of a common theme in society these days, the majority needing to conform to the minority but that's a whole other discussion entirely.

These blokes don't realise how lucky they are and they certainly play that way for the most part, too.

Sure you're not making assumptions about how we've handled our indigenous players without any in depth knowledge of what we've attempted to do for them?

I don't know personally how we've managed them, without being within the inner sanctum it's hard to tell. But I do know that in a lot of cases the successful indigenous players that seem to be making inroads into forging an AFL career, with the way the game is currently being played are more likely to be quick and tenacious, with enough skill to execute when they have the chance. Do either of Stack and Hill strike you as this type of footballer?

Just have a think about these two, and then compare them to the indigenous players that are having an impact on the competition. Do these guys crumb well? Are they quick off the mark or do they take some time to get moving? Is each of them an out and out pest to the opposition when we don't have the ball?

The answers to these questions potentially point to an error in player recruiting, not player management.

This is an irrelevant post. You can't compare miners to indigenous AFL footballers. It's stupid to try and do so, and shows a high level of ignorance.

Hill lived and went to school in Perth and played for Claremont. The club also helped in bringing his parents and sister over to Melbourne, whom he at one stage lived with in Melbourne

Walsh, Oshea, Macdougall, Wight.... ect

Clearly our club doesn't know how to treat people right. Plonking them in the harsh cold western suburbs and expecting them to play football while being paid well. We surely don't understand and arn't meeting the cultural needs of some incompetent players.
