In the West this morning it states the Fremantle Football Club has given permission for Stephen Hill to play in the Indigenous All-Stars game versus Richmond this Friday.

There is no way the club would risk its brightest young star in a novelty game unless he was fit. Awesome news.

Similarly Walters, Griffen, Michael Johnson all declared fit. Houghton and Hayden who travelled over aren't participating due to injury and Grover didn't fly over preferring to stay and train.

Don't play him, not worth the risk.
Agreed ,he,s much to valuable and he hasnt been part of the general training for weeks, but if the report is factual re his fitness its really good news I,ll be able to catch up on some of the sleep I,ve lost worrying about him being right for the coming season:)

Hard to believe Walters will be fit enough to play, hasnt trained for weeks:confused:

Gees I wouldn't let him near a game like this!
I'd probably put him in cryogenic chamber till Rd 1 if it was up to me.
Sibosado (my bud) is also in contention. I'd love to see him play but not Hill. I'll be in terror if Hilly plays.
Is it televised?

No Fremantle players were selected in the squad of 32 players announced last night. The squad is expected to be trimmed tomorrow. How can Hill get selected for Friday if he wasn't in the squad?

The #AFL All-Stars Squad is Liam Jones, Graham Johncock, Sam Sheldon, Courtenay Dempsey, Andrew Walker, Aaron Davey, Lewis Jetta, Byron Sumner, Matt Campbell, Chris Yarran, Adam Goodes, Matthew Stokes, Eddie Betts, Daniel Motlop, Liam Jurrah, Patrick Ryder, Cyril Rioli, Danyle Pearce, Lindsay Thomas, Curtley Hampton, Marlon Motlop, Daniel Wells, Leroy Jetta, Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls, Jamie Bennell, Alwyn Davey, Zephaniah Skinner, Harley Bennell, Tony Armstrong, Gerard Ugle, Cruise Garlett, Nathan Djerrkura - This was announced at the @AFLPlayers Indigenous Camp tonight. The squad is currently 32 but will be cut to a squad of 30 on Wednesday.

I'd love to see him play, as long as he doesn't get injured. Is it on Fox sports? Or normal TV?

Spoke to Sonnys uncle last weekend down in Warrnambool and he said he had a minor knee operation a while back but is feeling pretty good at the moment.
Fresh and ready to role were his words. Assume he was talking for the season rather then this week though.

Wiz, I think you know how much I think of Sonny and what he brings to the side so that is fantastic news:thumbsu:

I'm sure he's been told to take it easy if he does in fact play. Not really worth the risk for a novelty match.

I rate the kid very highly as well, but after chatting to his uncle at length over a few different nights while on the cans i have a new found soft spot for him.
He provided a lot of great detail about Sonnys old mans football ability and his up-bringing.
We discussed why he slipped in the draft and a lot of the rumours that were circulating in regards to his so called "laziness" and discipline "issues".

The kids got a big big future and is now one of my favourites.
Give him #11.

Well he ain't lazy now :) seems well disciplined too - not that I'm a great judge of that

Not saying he was lazy or had discipline issues before drafting him - but he seems like a hard-worker and more than willing to do his bit for the team

Hagrid Approves of your lazyiness, but not of Son-Sons :thumbsu:;)

Strange story given no Freo players have been named in the squad. Actually, am struggling to work out how it was selected. If Hilly was genuinely available why wouldn't he have been selected, there are guys in there who haven't played an AFL game:confused:.

Not really disappointed mind you!

Per channel 7 news just then, hilly's been ruled out. Dunno whether that means hes injured or they dont want him playing. interesting hes still over in sydney though for the training camp

I must admit that I was blown away that there were not any Freo players selected. Now that I have seen that this team is going to get DONE by Richmond I am happy that our players are not involved.

Not choosing any Freo players was their FIRST mistake. Going with untried youngsters from GWS in their 32 was their second. Lets see how many they make Game Day.

Thank God that the footy is BACK!

I'm not sure why that's a mistake. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Richmond have selected 9 players yet to debut at senior level and rested many of their stars. It sounds like a fair match up to me.

I cannot realistically see the big difference in risk between Hill (or any other player) playing this game, an NAB match or even an intra-club game. The difference in the level of seriousness would be marginal, and all would provide some kind of match fitness leading into the season proper, which is there purpose.
