I'm pretty sure they either thought it was a loophole, or they could never get caught.

Either way, the original intention doesn't change the fact on whether they DID cheat or DID NOT cheat. The rules don't care if you started out trying to cheat or not, just if you did or not.

perhaps, but if someone is coming from the belief that they did not intend to cheat, then calling them cheats, liars etc is kind of moot isn't it?

Nope. It's a statement of fact. If they cheated, they cheated, whether that was the original plan or not. If they used prohibited substances, and said they didn't use prohibited substances, then they're liars. We're 8 months in, and everyone knows the score on every substance they're accused of using.

This is how this should have gone down if it was all an innocent mistake:

Doc Reid: Oh crap. Looks like there's some issues with what we've been taking.
EFC: Hello ASADA, here is the list of everything we took, who got what and here is why we believed it was ok.
ASADA: Ooh, that one's prohibited. You'll have to take a suspension, but since you came to us and cooperated properly, and we can see how you made that mistake, we'll make the penalties as light as we can.

Scandal over.

How many people here HONESTLY believe that the club and Hirdy intended to cheat?
From what we know about his texts, the secret locations, the numerous warnings he got from multiple sources, he absolutely meant to cheat. But his intention is beside the point.

If you implement a program secretly and systematically injecting players with banned or not approved PEDs, I don't think ASADA/WADA let you get away with it just because you say you didn't mean to cheat.
Unfortunately, those players foolish enough to put their faith in Hird are also unlikely to get away with cheating, even though it is almost certain they didn't intend to, and were misled by James and his little band of merry men.

Except his email and other communications which specifically stated the program MUST be with WADA regulations...
Yes mxett. I think the motive for adding that afterthought on an email has been well covered on this board. In any case the point stands, just because he says he didn't mean to implement the most systematic program of drug cheating ever witnessed in our sport, doesn't mean ASADA/WADA say "no worries mate, you and everyone else involved is off the hook". Imagine the precedent that would set for every other potential drug cheat in the world.

On another note: I must say that I truly admire the fight in your belly, but you must be so flipping sick of this whole thing.

it remains to be seen if that happens with the former
the point is that the latter has happened

In about fifty years time when GWS is finally weaned off the sweet sweet milk of the AFLs special extra T**ty, you might have something of interest to say on that matter.

But for now, its both silly and boring.

And, if GWS really wanted Franklin and didn't get him with the stacked hand of cards they hold, then they've cocked it up royally.

Like Gillards interview in front of a 'soft' audience - WHO CARES

All these interviews are about is restoring their Cred.

End of day Hird will go down as the biggest a**hole in the AFL history overseeing a regime of activity never seen before and we will never will again.

Absolute disgrace Essendon gave him 2 years as a reward post his ban for brining the game into disrepute. That decision is even worse than the ban.

Which other communications?

That email stinks of arse covering without really meaning it. Would look better with one of these ;) at the end.
Conversations described by Charter

Not sure how he covered his arse in an email but then allowed multiple consent form s detailing the substances used. If that was his tactic he sure failed at covering his arse. Sounds more like he asked for a compliant program and believed that was the case.

But then when Dr Reid allayed concerns regarding the program with a letter addressed specifically to James he failed to act except trying to organise a United nations meeting

That's Charter the convicted dealer, who has by his own admission made a career helping PED cheats evade detection? That Charter?

The same Charter who was Hird's "personal trainer" when he made a miracle comeback?

The same Charter who sourced substances from China for Essendon?

There's an over eagerness on this board to character assassinate the individual who makes statements not helpful to one's own opinion.

Charter doesn't get that doubt. He's got way too much form for there to be any doubt what he is.

Its pretty obvious Hird believed Reid was too conservative to approve cutting edge methods. However my understanding is his email insisting Reids approval was after Reids letter.

Yeah, that's him. The one ASADA interviewed for evidence.

Given the recent events of a Grand Final, Dustin Martin's glorious return to Punt Road, and Buddy's defection to Sydney, this will be about as riveting as reading Waiting For Godot.

Hird: I don't understand.
Robbo: Use your intelligence, can't you?
Hird uses his intelligence.
Hird: (finally) I remain in the dark.

Sleeping pill manufacturers must be shitting themselves.

ignore him. If there is one person that personifies the non intellectual outrage, it's him.
