Surprised there wasn't a thread already started on this.

The two clowns that are currently hosting the 5AA sports show interviewed one of the greatest players that has ever worn the black and white prison bars.

A couple of good points from Scotty about not handling the crowds too well in his first couple of years with the Crows, and then not feeling he was given a fair go the second time they picked him up in 96.

*His son is playing underage footy at Woodvile / West Torrens.
*Favourite memories are of the premiership wins.
*A Port trainer told Scotty he would kick 14 goals against Westies that day in 1990....kicked an incredible 48 goals over a 4 week period (some teams would be lucky to do these days letalone one player)
*Felt real good when the jumbo prince congratulated him after breaking his goal record in 1990.

One interesting point was McDermott asked him about the incident in the changerooms after the 90GF when Cornes and McDermott walked in and gave their 'congratulations' on the GF win and then copped a spray from D.Arnfield basically telling them where to go. Does anyone have any other news / stories of what Cornes said when he went into the rooms after the GF???? Would be interested to know.

I was slightly disapointed that the didnt press on a few other areas, in particular Hodges' thoughts on the 93 prelim final or the final against Norwood where he kicked THAT goal.

He didn't really give much away. Other than saying Cornesy probably left himself open to be told where to go after he made his speech. McDermott said it was pretty awkward, but he didnt go into much detail either.

Cornes had a crack at Port about how our actions in trying to join the AFL had changed South Australian football forever and how it would never be the same again, at which point he was asked to leave.

I think McDermott either had, or was going to, give the perfunctory 'well played, you were better on the day' speech, but Graham decided to grandstand.

Of course Graham was so dismayed and so strong in his support for the integrity of the local competition that within a couple of months he took up the coaching role with the new AFL side.

Surprised to hear Billy's turning out with WWT, thought he would be at the Maggies. Tennis may yet win out anyway I guess.

Yeah not to mention that his own club lost it's coach captain and a fair number of other players. Plus pretty much any chance of an SANFL club other than Port playing in a national comp. A damn shame IMO. I'd have liked to see Norwood at least join Port in the top flight.

Cornes' hypocricy has not deviated in 20 years, the bloke is a massive fugstick.

What about Fantasia's comment that Hodges was thier Worst recruit for the year... Brent Williams anyone?? what about Ashley Fernee?

Maybe Laurence Angwin was karma for deeds of the past?

I know someone that volunteers down at WWT, has a bit to do with the youth sides. He told me about Billy and said that Hodges senior was spitting chips about him not playing for Port but Junior wanted to play with all his mates at WWT

Did Hodges discuss his opinion on today's AFL competition, how often he attends AFL matches, and who he barracks for in the AFL?

Scotty is a Power fan, i met him outside the ground at the G before the 2004 GF. My understanding is that he is more of a PAMFC fan than a PAFC fan though.

I thought he was a Collingwood fan and was barracking for them in the 02 and 03 finals against us ?

Cornes had a crack at Port about how our actions in trying to join the AFL had changed South Australian football forever and how it would never be the same again, at which point he was asked to leave.

Don't forget his horrifically patronising, cringeworthy and repetitive rambling about how 'on paper we were the better side and there was no way you should've won that game'.

Combined with his sanctimony about the recent AFL bid it was a credit to our players and staff that he didn't get told to f-off long before he actually did.

Surprised to hear Billy's turning out with WWT, thought he would be at the Maggies. Tennis may yet win out anyway I guess.

So Scotty does have a son. Will make the Bryce Gibbs fiasco look like lawn bowls results in the Messenger if he makes it.

Definietely a Collingwood fan...saw him at a Port game with a Collingwood top on. Kinda broke my heart a bit.
Another one that obviously doesn't understand we are the same Port Adelaide.
Maybe he's dirty that he didn't get a shot at the Power?
He was only put on the list as a token gesture I feel because his best playing days were certainly behind him and he never did a lot with his time at Adelaide .Although I don't believe they persevered with him much once Modra came along who went for his marks with two hands and not the one handed attempts Scotty seemed to be doing in the end.

Dont really know about that Dalphonso....2 months earlier he pretty much single handedly won us a premiership with his Prelim heroics and 7 goals out of 11 in the GF. He injured his back pretty early on in 97 and never recovered.

I can understand his chagrin at not getting much of a crack in 96 at the Crows. He kicked 6 goals in about 50 minutes of football in the two games he played and wasnt seen again, depsite the Crows folding quicker than any house of cards cliche you can come up with...all the while he was sinking 5-6 a week down at Alberton on his way to another 100 goals, another Ken Farmer and another premiership.

The fact he supports Collingwood doesnt bother me at all...nor if he barracks mainly for the PAMFC. He could have Crows tatts all over his body and named his first born Mark Bickley Hodges and Id still wanna boof him. Im sure he would have been as happy as anyone to see what the club achieved in 2004.

As for the 1990 GF aftermath....yeah, funny stuff. Mcdermott said his speech first and looked pretty shattered. Just the typical 'you blokes were just too good, well done' stuff. As Ford said, Cornes came in, said a couple of patronising things about the game, how we 'never should have won that', then went on a spiel about how football in the state will never be the same again and how we'd ruined South Australian football. This was met by a audible 'get ****ed' and the players pounded out 'Cheer Cheer the black and the white' louder than ever whilst Cornes was still trying to talk.

Even funnier is after this Cornes had an interview in which he was asked 'Can you see yourself getting involved with the new club?'...from memory, his answer was along the lines of 'Ive thought about this a lot and ive come to the conclusion that I wouldnt be able to live with myself if I was to get involved with something that I disagree with and hate so much'. Of course, two weeks later he was coach.

.
Scotty Hodges excelled in the SANFL but quite often looked all at sea whilst playing for Adelaide.Early in the piece whether it be through injury or down on confidence he would fly for marks one handed.I never saw him do that for the maggies. They were strong confident grabs.Maybe his confidence was shattered as Cornes never gave him his dues and when Modra came on the scene he knew his days were numbered.

I beg to disagree with you on his Collingwood support.
If he was really a Port man through and through he would be a Power supporter as that is the same club he played for.Maybe he doesn't think that is the case?If he was a Collingwood supporter do you think he was ecstatic when they destroyed us in the 2003 Preliminary at the MCG?

I remember that day well Phil. It cut deep. i think part of me died that day :(
You might want to consider getting a life if Scott Hodges actions affect you that much?
It sounds like he could have been dirty on the Power for not being given a chance to play with them?

I dont think it matters who Billy plays for in underage footy (although it would always be preferable if he did play with the maggies), I think you will find that in the current father son rules, he would only be eligible to play for Port Adelaide in the AFL.
I often saw Scotty out watching his son as my nephew also plays with WWT but in a younger age group.

Only played 183 games for the PAFC I think. In fact 8 of those may have been for the PAMFC?

A prime example of why the current FS rule is broken. Hopefully if the two clubs merge it will go to 100 games for the PAFC.

Scott Hodges is pretty much the sole reason I supported the Crows. That and beating Hawthorn first game. And still support the Crows;).

Corne's ruined his AFL career. Dodgy ankle didnt help, but Cornes mismanagement of Hodges and then not being able to use both him and Modra cost our "State Side" as it was back then a chance at multiple flags, not just one. 1993 Prelim having Essendon kicking goals against us whilst Scotty sitting on the pine was such a wasted. The Modra/Hodges duo could have been unstoppable. Think Buddy and Roughy with better kicking and better ability to get the ball. If we had the best SA coach back then (John Cahill) things would have been different.

In the interview he mentioned that it was his son's choice to play at WWT. He plays footy for fun and wanted to be with mates.
