Now that this board may yield serious responses, here we go.

Me and the missus are looking at an overseas holiday, yet with different intentions, we have to cater for both our needs. She wishes to see sights, cultures, views, tourist attractions etc.

I on the other hand, just want to eat. Being a big Tony Bourdain fan, I just want to indulge on various foods of the world as he does, and couldn't really care less about sights.

At the moment we're leaning towards Vietnam, or a France/Spain holiday.

What countries/trips could be suggested?

I've only been to Asia, but I'd love to do Europe. If you wanna eat, you cannot go wrong going to France, surely

Take the European option.
You get to use the golf clubs as well that way.

The Vietnam option means you'll be living in each others pockets basically 24/7.
Fine in theory, terrible in practice.

Correct weight and all clear Lance. Paris will be the answer to both your criteria Harvs (you being a foodie, and she being a culture nut).

Isn't it funny how both ends of the spectrum could cover both criteria - India & France - food & culture

Ive been travelling a bit.

France is awesome, so much to do , so much history and great places to visit (Eiffel Tower, Louvre) but the south of France is great. Great food and wine and really good weather.

Most of Europe is good, easy to get around on public transport and a lot to do. UK is a really nice place, a little cold but a lot of things to do there. But the food in UK is really just like ours here in Australia.

Yeah, but I'm led to believe that one's arse doesn't get pinched quite as much in France as it would most likely do in India...... decisions, decisions..... hmmmmmm.

Harv, without any thinking time, Thailand. And if you do need some thinking time, Thailand.

Caters for all of the above, cheap, nice people, easy to get around, great food and beaches. I lived there for 3.5 years, and Vietnam for 1.5. Thailand poohs all over Vietnam (although North VN is worth a visit).

If it's temples and stuff your missus wants, pop over to Angkor Wat.**

Enjoy!!!

Edit - or better still, send her over to Angkor Wat for a week whilst you roam around Nana Plaza in BKK! :):D

France = boring.Go to Eastern Europe and see the brilliant sights of Bratislava during the day :p and the dance floor at night :thumbsu:

So I take it you've just seen Eurotrip, and fancy dining out of bins for only a nickle a day. ;)

True Mexican food is apparently nothing like the swill dished up all over Aust., and Argentinian food is spectacular.

Anyone been to South or Latin America?

I thought Spain was better than France, and the food was amazing in Spain and there is a hell of a lot to do. You can also then go over to Morroco which is brillant as well. You can't really go wrong with Europe as there is so many different cultures and all the places are fantastic.

I found in europe, if find a place where large groups of the english swarm - try to avoid it at all costs. It's a pity because there are some beautiful places that are just ruined by idiot tourists, i.e. Prague.

Anywhere in Western Europe is great for food, beer and sexy ladies. Eastern europe is much the same, except the difficult language barrier is more common. You won't have problems communicating in Western Europe unless your a mime or an american, just learn a few key words.

So basically, if you've got plenty of money to spend - go to western europe. If you don't mind going on the cheap - eastern europe is for you.

A few of my favourite places - Western Europe - Lille, Brussels, Cologne. Eastern Europe - Tallin, Warsaw, Prague.

I'm going to Thailand for my next trip early next year. It should be fantastic as well.

I think anyway you look at it (culture, food, sights etc) Europe would be a much better option than Asia. The one thing Asia has over Europe is that it's much cheaper (to travel to and shopping/getting by once there).

Good option... Iv'e been there twice and will definately go back.

I prefer Asia, mainly because I hate the cold, I have always wanted to go to Scotland, but there is probably only a month of the year that I wouldn't freeze to death.

My son prefers Europe, he loves the cold. He went to Holland & Belgium this year, next year he is going to Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Germany & Holland again.

sigh...what is it with aussies and their fascination with South East Asia?

head to France/Spain I say

Vietnams food is as good if not better than most. Being a French Colony for so long their pastries are to die for aswell as their coffee. And being in Asia your $AUD will go alot further. Hoi-An is a must stop to get quality tailored suits cheap cheap.

To get to Europe 24- 30 hrs travel time
To get to Sth East Asia 8-10 hrs travel time
